But, with a half-hazard retreading of the plot from The Incredibles.

Most disappointing movie of 2013 for me was without a doubt Man of Steel, I was beyond excited for what was advertised as a deep character study of Superman and his purpose, but turned out to be none stop action schlock. It's 2015 and I'm still not over the disappointment, I wanted Man of Steel to be so good, but it was meh at best.
@OrangeHand10 жыл бұрын
Um, it actually WAS a character study of Superman. There were a number of conversations about his purpose, whether he should reveal himself, how the world would react, etc. Also, all of the action was in the last third.
@rivercrowther30389 жыл бұрын
tyspyranger I agree. It was really, really violent. Dont get me wrong, i looove violent movies like kick-ass and just about any tarantino movie but this is a superman movie. A superman movie. Not the avengers or something, superman. And it just felt like fight scene after fight scene. This whole deep character study of superman is kind of dumb because he doesnt have any sort of morality issues. The nature of superman is that he's just a really good guy. Hes not like batman, who is actually pretty damn psycopathic. Hes superman.
@tyspyranger9 жыл бұрын
Jack Crowther Yeah they didn't even delve into Superman's morality, what he stands for, or even why he becomes Superman in the first place. They just show him getting bullied over and over, and that's what makes him become Superman? They should have done what Batman Begins did, which is spend time with the character, and let the audience completely understand why he becomes a Superhero.
@OrangeHand9 жыл бұрын
Jack Crowther Pretty much every superhero gets into fights with villains, even the Chris Reeve version of Superman, and when two superhumans go at it, of course things are going to get wrecked! Also, why shouldn't Superman not have to face tough moral decisions? He's a man, not a god; he can be just as flawed as anyone. There has to be a better argument for what Superman (or a Superman movie) can or cannot do other than just 'Because he's Superman,' because that excuse doesn't hold water.
@rivercrowther30389 жыл бұрын
tyspyranger Indeed. Whats worse is that we're now going to get a similar origin story for about ten characters in one movie when batman v superman comes along. Say hello to iron man 2 released by DC in 2016, jut with waaay more doubt and cynicism about the casting choices. Gal gadot? Jesse Eisenberg? God help us all.....

For me, movie 43 was one of those things that was so bad, it was actually good. Seriously, I thought it was great that these famous actors were making complete asses of themselves for my entertainment (sorry, don't have your same respect for actors). It was tasteless, it was crude, it was juvenile, it really was an experience! It evoked a reaction from me, and that's worth something. Sharknado, on the other hand, was so bad it was just bad. It was just really really bad. Just a shitty fucking movie. Boring, idiotic, pointless, not funny or clever and in spite of the concept, was utterly forgettable. Should have been at 1.

I like Sharknado. I like all 4 of them. I get why people don't like them, but I find them enjoyable and I like crazy over-the-top movies. The worst parts of any of them would be anything involving Tara Reid. I don't care for her character at all. The rest is just fun. Sharknado 3 had sharks in space! It makes no sense but it's so odd and crazy that it's fun. Sharknado 3 had a lightsaber-like chainsaw and Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens parodied parts of Star Wars and had a 3-bladed "cross guard" chainsaw (parody of Kylo Ren's lightsaber). There's just so much fun I have watching them.

No Top 10 worst list would be complete without mentioning Marlon Wayans' "Haunted House". There was not even one redeeming quality about this film. The racial humor that was in it was cliched by the standards of mid 1990s. Making an entire film a parody about the Paranormal franchise meant that they had to stretch 5 minutes worth of material, deserving of a sitcom skit, to the length of a feature length film, thus stretch the patience of anyone, with any sense of taste, to the breaking point. All in all it was cinematic feces.

Idk, I guess my enjoyment of the film comes from the fact that I hate found footage movies in general (Blair Witch, Paranormal Activity, Chernobyl Diaries, etc.) so I was just begging for somebody, anybody, to call out this genre and make fun of it. Hell, even give the black perspective on it kind in the same vein as The Boondocks. If that movie had to come from anyone, I'm glad it wasn't Friedberg & Seltzer. Because lets be honest, this is probably the only spoof film in over a DECADE to show even a little bit of effort.

Your not alone I loved the movie and people who comment saying I like bad movies can go suck it as the movie had great special effects Johnny Deppmalthough his performance was contreversial I thought he did well and all the other actors did good and it also has one of the best climax scenes ive ever seen in a movie

I love The Counsellor, strange as that may seem, and I love your reaction to it. The Counsellor is rough and it does give off a sense of self-importance. However there is one circle of people to whom this movie caters: the existential philosophers. Cormac McCarthy is an existentialist's wet dream. His stories explore key concepts (compromised moral code, existential angst, (un)importance of love, justice) and it is fun to see these ideas toyed with on-screen. The Counsellor is hard to watch for similar reasons that Philosophy is hard to read: it doesn't try to appeal to a broad audience and instead demands its consumers to ''rise'' to its level (for ill, in my opinion).

The Lone Ranger? THANK YOU!!! god that movie was a fucking insult to an American Icon. No one will remember the cool lone ranger, instead they'll remember the obtuse one with Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp, the one they thought was good but in reality was fucking terrible!!!! I'm a huge fan of the TV series, and that was one of the best western shows ever made, FUCK YOU Disney for ruining such a great franchise.... I still think Frozen is okay, and Saving Mr. Banks was good, better than Frozen actually.

But wait.....Disney has the Star Wars universe to trash. On the cover of a AAA Travel paper my father periodically gets it had Mickey dressed as Luke and Minnie as Leia with hair buns....it sent a cold cold shiver up my spine.
@luckyday46576811 жыл бұрын
GREG FREEMAN I lost faith in Disney in making live action movies. But then I saw Saving Mr. Banks... even then, one movie does not mean this company would be back on its feet. Disney has to make more live action movies that are good, and not idiotic cash grabs, or attempted cash grabs, because The Lone Ranger did not grab any cash.
@madahad911 жыл бұрын
Seek out a review of Saving Mr. Banks by science fiction author Harlan Ellision. B.S. is a word he uses abundantly in regards to the content of the movie. It is ALL made up to sell Disney's image. P.L, Travers HATED what they did with her book to her dying day. The review is very funny if interested.

I love listening to Ellison speak and agree with most of what he has to say but sometimes his ego can make Godzilla look like the Geiko gecco. At what point does be opinionated cross over to bombastic arrogance? I don't believe he is just doing it for show. There are many real things to angry about but ranting about trading cards is not one of them.
@madahad911 жыл бұрын
Really, who cares about these things than anal obsessive collectors who seriously need to get out and make real life connections. When he stated that comic books were America's literature, sadder and truer words had never been spoken. And I died a little bit more inside. I personally refuse to use the words "graphic novel". It is a pompous term. They are comic books assemnled ito a single collection volume. They are not to be confused with War and Peace, Moby Dick, Don Quixote,etc. Same on Mr. Ellison.

I can't really hate on Hansel and Gretel. The movie knew what it was. We all knew what it was. It was a movie that just tried to be fun (which it was). It didn't try to be Oscar worthy it just tried to be fun and entertaining which it was. It didn't take itself seriously.

A complaint you had was that Smurfs 2 was aimed to keep kids occupied... no shit. That is exactly what it was supposed to do, so to complain about it pointless. It is the equivalent of saying you didn't like Titanic because it had a dark ending. Or a boat in it.
@CaptainPajamaPants11 жыл бұрын
....But they are kids... To them, the movies like Smurfs 2 are great, and the movies were made for them, so why is this guy saying that the movie is childish? Of course it is! It was made that way!

***** I have no idea what you are trying to say...

Just because it's supposed to distract kids doesn't mean its allowed to suck.
@CaptainPajamaPants11 жыл бұрын
But you are both adults who are saying that these movies suck, but they weren't made for you. If kids like them, then who cares what adults think. I go back and watch "bad" movies from when I was a kid, and still think they are great, regardless of poor production quality, cinematography, or whatever. I can still tap into that childhood side of watching a movie and just enjoying it, and not being so critical of it. If you are picking movies to show your kids simply based on the art and cinema behind the movie, you probably won't show them that many children's movies. You sort have to remove yourself from the argument and look at it from a child's perspective. I am basically just repeating myself over and over, but the fact that a movie critic who watches a lot of movies and it in his twenties didn't like the Smurfs 2 shouldn't surprise anyone. It wasn't made for the art cinema fans, it wasn't even made to be a groundbreaking children's movie. It was just stupid, simple fun.
@CaptainPajamaPants11 жыл бұрын
You have this concept of "good" that you keep applying, but I am not sure that it applies. Smurfs 2 was not made to be "good" or critically acclaimed. Obviously. It was made to be for kids under 6. A good example that I can think of is pop music. They make it simple and repetitive and then everyone can sing along, but when someone does something different people can get more attached to it. The same is the case with these movies. The Smurfs 2 is pop music, you don't have to like it, but it will sell and people will "sing-along" to it.
