Even after an entire universe happening after this movie, Iron Man can still be a great stand alone movie. It was such a game changer.

everything from phase 1 was amazing, and they all could stand on their own. the only thing connecting them was some very obscure behind the wall pictures of other movies, or the post credit. now everything is so overtly connected, there's no subtly anymore. i just watched "what if S2. and there was a joke every 2 seconds.

Yeah. Iron Man was the catalyst that kickstarted the MCU. It's hilarious that we can look back at it and it shows us everything currently wrong with the MCU. This movie is timeless.

This is indeed a great start to the segment. May I recommend the following movies from the 2010s for future feature presentations: Iron Man 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame. I’d also love to see one for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania at its 5 year anniversary.

This was, by all means, the perfect cinematic storm. An actor that not only had the talent, but also could relate to the character in a personal level, a director that knew what he wanted, and producers that handled studio expectations in order to get this project off the ground.

I still get chills every time I see that scene when Tony is tuning up his gauntlet while watching the news. They way he doesn't say a word in that entire sequence, but between his body language, facial expressions, and the sound team layering effects and the music, it's just so perfect! You hear the mention of the village that Yensin is from while he sits there, twisting the screwdriver. Each twist of the tool increases the pitch of the gauntlet's energy whine, like the building of tension on an electric wire. His face twitches in tiny muscle spasms as he's clearly getting pissed. He walks around and looks at himself in the mirror when the news anchor (the whole time her dialogue sounding like she's talking right at him) says "the refugees wonder who, if anyone will save them?" and that's when he locks eyes with himself in the mirror before blowing it the fuck up. It's just such fantastic acting coupled with great direction and sound/set design. You don't need to hear him say a word, but he speaks more loudly in that scene than anything else in the film.

When my dad and I went to see this amazing movie, we were the only ones in the theater. During the entire movie, we were starving for burgers (the Burger King product placement didn’t help lol), but we wouldn’t budge. We loved it so much, and it was such a special year for movies. To this day, Iron Man is in my top 5 of the MCU, and will never be dethroned. It’s incredible, and it may be a perfect movie-everything from the pacing, to the Badass effects and fights, to the soundtrack, to the performances. I think Iron Man 2 is great, also, but no one appreciates that awesome little flick.

2008 was such a good year for cinemas. Iron Man and The Dark Knight to just name a few. Gamechanging year for comic book movies. Iron Man (2008) works good as a stand-alone movie. It also seemed to transcend the genre, just like The Dark Knight. People who regularily didn’t like comic books or superheroes in general seemed to have great love for these two

@@antoniokastrocarlisledemel6617its subjective of course, but the thing that sets iron man part from everything after iron man is that iron man isn't an advertisement for future movies. I like the captain America movies for a different reason. They perfectly capture the trajectory of marvel movies being advertisements. First movie is standalone until the last few minutes where it sets up cap being isekaid into the future with the avengers. The second cap movie stands alone perfectly for the first half, then the second half is completely setting up future events that will only be resolved in future installments. The 3rd movie wastes no time in acting as an advertisement for future products, as the entire thing is just pitching black panther and infinity war. I know most people can't relate to this specific decline, but even as a 14 year old certified geek, when I saw iron man 2 in theaters, my main takeaway was how much of my time was wasted in setting up future products, and it killed me to the point where every little bit of set up just annoys the shit out of me.

You absolutely NAILED this review! I recently watched Iron Man as well after not having seen it since it first came out and WOW was I surprised by how amazing this movie is!!! It’s incredibly grounded with a compelling story, even emotional moments like when yinsen dies in the cave, it’s just brilliant storytelling and I BEG the MCU to take this as an example of the kind of superhero movie they should go back to making
@MelMelodyWerner

nah. what needs to be done is NOT adhering to a strict formula. do some horror characters, or pure comedy, or romance characters, or pure sci-fi ones. "superhero" is not a genre, it's a kind of character, and if they just do "Ironman 1" 20 times with the same strengths it is going to get boring again. we have decades of Marvel comics (DC as well if we're extending this out) which show that you CANNOT just do the same thing forever across everything. people would get bored of that fast! do people who don't read the comics just assume that we're over here reading the same kinds of stories for decades with minimal variation? lol.

I love this. I have almost religiously watched every video Chris released since I found the channel as a 13 year old in 2014. And when he said “when you look at this movie, you can totally understand why it launched the MCU. And it’s pretty crazy that it holds up as well as it does” I feel the same way about what Chris has been doing since he started making videos. If there’s nothing currently to watch I go to this channel and watch his reviews to find hidden gems I may have not remembered existed and get to watch them again for what feels like the first time. And once I watch them I have someone who I can come back and listen to their view of the film and not feel so alone. So thank you Chris for being there when no one else was. I just got married at 24 years old to my high school sweetheart and my best friend. As I move into another chapter of my life just as you are becoming a director. Just remember the encouragement and confidence you gave so many small, seemingly insignificant people that lives you have touched for the last decade. If you ever see this. Thanks again for being there when it felt like no one else was.

What I love about Iron Man is it was before the MCU universe is populated by magicians aliens and gods, so you get the sense of how special it is to live in a world seeing a man in a flying suit. I do love the characters that comes into the universe after, but there is something as you said “sincere” about this. I can’t imagine being a normal everyday person who lives in the MCU afterwards with all these super beings- I can imagine life seems pretty unspectacular with all these special creatures running around.

Both this film & The Dark Knight are the greatest movies that ever happened in the exact same year. Everyone loves The Dark Knight including myself, I even have one of the framed photos autographed by Christian Bale & Heath Ledger, because it takes the comic book universe very seriously therefore it feels more like a movie. Everyone also loves Marvel Studio’s Iron Man & the whole MCU also including myself because they feel like both movies & the comics than trying to be 1 or the other & Kevin Feige and Jon Favreau did a fantastic job of bringing that idea to life.

We had the luxury of spending a decade character building Tony. Today they want to expedite fan following by compacting new archs, in quick anticipation of a team-up. Shang-Chi could have been two or three movies spent learning the arts, fighting in underground arenas, learning his father's intentions, and eventuality facing off in Luke vs. Vader format.

I could watch you talk about older movies all day, especially ones i love as much as the original Iron Man!

Dog Day Afternoon would be a great one to review. I think it's still as fresh today as it was when it was released in 1975.

I remember seeing this movie in theaters when it came out in 2008. It was released the day after my 11th birthday. And I saw it May 3rd 2008. It was me, my dad, my brother, my stepbrother at the time and my stepmother also at that time. I loved it. And much like most of you, I remember seeing the trailer for it on the DVD of Transformers. I even still have the freaking video game by Sega. Awesome movie.

Even after all these years later post End Game, Imo I still think Iron Man is still the best installment of the MCU.

Surprised you didn't mention the ending; not only is it perhaps the best ending in a superhero film but one of the best endings of all time. It completely flipped the superhero genre on its head.
