personally, I felt Edward Nortons Hulk design looked better and more menacing then Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk
@thechad448511 ай бұрын
I feel like perfection lies somewhere in the middle. One thing is that the quality of this Hulk’s face varies drastically from scene to scene. In some scenes, he looks more real than the best that modern CGI can produce, and in others, he looks like the model used in the video game based on the film. There’s really inconsistent quality of CGI throughout the whole film. Like when Abomination says “give me a real fight.” That whole scene looks like some OG Beast Wars terrible computer animation. Ruffalo’s Hulk has had a very consistent quality, looks-wise. He’s just so much less “Hulk-ish” than Norton’s Hulk, in terms of personality. If we could combine the strength of Bana Hulk, and Ruffalo Hulk/ the attitude of Bana Hulk with Norton Hulk, and the overall look of Norton Hulk with the consistency and some of the thickness of Ruffalo Hulk, we’d have the perfect Hulk.
@bat157911 ай бұрын
@@thechad4485 Norton’s Roar, voice and look for the Hulk are🔥 but yeah he could be thicker and a little less veiny. The dark green color is amazing though, not comic acurate but looks waay better
@thechad448511 ай бұрын
@@bat1579 I wholeheartedly agree. Having Lou Ferrigno voice Norton’s Hulk was a genius move, and he absolutely killed it! And while I understand what they were going for with the tight veiny look of Hulk, it was not the best choice… or at least was overdone. I also liked that Norton has a black belt in Judo, Karate, and Aikido, and brought that to Hulk’s fighting style, making his Hulk a far more capable fighter. And that primal *ROAR* at the end still gives me chills. I agree on the color as well. The comic accurate green in Thor Ragnarok was not nearly as good looking as the darker green.

100%! Loved This Hulk! The CGI on Hulk Now and The MCU today is so bad… everything looks like a game 🤮
@flyinglions222311 ай бұрын
@@thechad4485I think yourself and others forget about Ruffalo’s Hulk in the early days of the MCU. I just rewatched The Avengers (2012) and he’s huge and animal-like. There is a ton of tension building toward Banner’s initial transformation and when it eventually happens on the Helicarrier, he’s terrifying. He almost kills Black Widow, Sheild agents, etc. This carry’s on into Age of Ultron, where the Hulk’s set off by Wanda and nearly destroys a whole city. Even when his mind isn’t being altered the Hulk is incredibly strong and powerful, levelling that flying Chitari alien with one punch for example. It’s not until Ragnarok where Hulk becomes less savage and animalistic. I’d argue that he becomes more like Norton’s Hulk in both appearance and personality, as more intelligent, less bulkey and no longer hunched over like an ape. Norton’s Hulk uses weapons and is easily halted by Betty Ross (Ruffalo’s Hulk has these moments as well but they’re more nuanced imo). So I don’t think Norton’s Hulk is more “Hulk-like.”

The thing I really liked about the very early individual Avengers movies (phase 1 of the MCU in Disney jargon) was that the movies did not feel super interconnected and could be enjoyed completely on their own. The later movies required homework of watching all the other movies, which made it tiring for some viewers to keep up.
@thisspaceforrent573711 ай бұрын
The comics followed a similar trajectory. From the 60s until the late 80s, things were connected but not complicated; you could read just the titles you liked without getting lost, because aside from occasional guest appearances, the heroes generally kept out of each other's lanes. This made sense because most readers were kids with limited allowances, who had to pick and choose which series they most wanted to follow. While crossover events did start in the 80s (Secret Wars being a massive success, albeit one contained in its own miniseries), they became more and more common in the 90s, and more and more transparently stunts to get you to buy books you didn't really want. It's kind of fascinating watching the MCU speed-running that whole history.

The first Hulk is clearly a better comic book film. As Chris said in the iron Man review, he has never been a comic book guy. The style that Ang Lee brought to that film was so refreshing and invigorating in the comic book film adaptation scene. The First Hulk felt like a comic book come to life. Sure it has some holes, the cg doesnt hold up, and the plot got a bit cumbersome. But in 2003 other than xmen , superman, and Burton Batman, there was no other great superhero to screen films. There was no reason to drop Eric Bana, nor Ang Lee for a sequel. My mistake, i forgot Rami spiderman, those were oretty great too and i think the first Tobey Maguire film predates Hulk

I have always loved the Hulk character ever since I was a little kid. I was 11 when Ang Lee's Hulk came out and 16 when this film dropped. I genuinely enjoyed both, but I remember leaving the theatre having just finished watching The Incredible Hulk and I recall having sat there with the biggest smile on my face for the whole film! It's always been upsetting to me the way this film has been constantly overlooked and ragged on over the years, despite myself being one of its few ardent supporters. But I'm glad this movie is finally finding its place amongst movie goers. As a lifelong Hulk fan, it is everything I wanted from my Hulk movie: Banner as a fugitive on the run (check), the trauma of dealing with his Hulk personality (check), humour kept to a minimum as this is a character drama (check), amazing Hulk action set pieces like the bottle factory scene (check), wanting a real life and relationship with Betty Ross but always being kept at arms length (check), constantly pursued by General Ross for sinister means (check), and the freaking Abomination finally! (check check!). I love this movie. Edward Norton crushes it as Bruce Banner, and you really get that sense of his struggle with his own inner duality. The late, great William Hurt is fantastic as General Ross, and Tim Roth plays an amazing Blonsky/Abomination. He is a truly threatening villain, without the moustache twirling of many MCU villains nowadays. I honestly feel The Incredible Hulk was released in the wrong era. Had it been released today, during the era of unfocused MCU movies like The Marvels that have no clear grasp on what it wants to do and instead pushes plot threads, sequel-itis, and set ups in a million different directions, I feel audiences would have embraced The Incredible Hulk as a breath of fresh air. It's a solid, focused character film that is actually about the Hulk! Not about setting up movies 7 years from now. I will always defend this film, and it will always remain in my top 5 MCU movies. I have to disagree with you Chris, I do think it's a great movie for the many reasons I've listed above. But thanks for taking the time to review it!

This is easily your best segment Chris...I always want to see reviews of ANY film regardless of when it was released...too many reviewers just talk non stop about new releases...the freedom to just do a video of any random film is refreshing to us as an audience too

Not to mention it’s the ONLY MCU movie where he actually say “Hulk Smash!” You know like his most popular phrase in the comics.

There was a charm with classic superheroe movies back in the days. Solid movies.

The down time is what makes Hulk such a hard character to make a solo movie with. Captain America is always Captain America. Tony Stark can go in and out of the Iron Man suit very quickly (plus Downey is just always fun to watch even in the slower moments). Thor is always Thor. You can jump in and out of action very quickly with those characters. With Hulk it's either he's Hulk and it's chaos or he's Banner and things are calm. You've got to find a way to make the Banner moments interesting because that's going to be the character on screen for a majority of the movie.
