Unlike us, Christ did not confuse who He was with the illusion of self the ego creates. As He knew who he was, His ego was a tool instead of it being, as it is in us, something for the self to hide behind. This is why He could easily be corrected. Look up the story where a woman replies to Him, "Yes, Lord, but even the dogs get to eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table'. See: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2jboqOMo6pmi7c

@Brian Clark he didn't have a job. He was an itinerant preacher who walked around the country eating people's produce and cursing their crops when the plants weren't producing. He bummed money and food and places to stay, sent his disciples ahead of him to basically panhandle before he arrives at the town. So yeah he was an asshole but what can you expect from a guy who was literally raised to believe he was the Jewish Messiah

People in the comment section are completely missing the psychological imagery that Peterson is trying to relay. It's not supposed to be purely religious. He's speaking of Christ as an ideal and how it can be related to current, real world behavior. He's a psychologist. Not preacher.

They are not missing his imagery; they are rejecting its appropriateness. That to which people are generally objecting in his religious talks is the use of Christian Scripture for ends and purposes that no Christian would recognize as Christ's. If Lenin had used quotes from the American Declaration of Independence to bolster his theory of class warfare, people would have been rightly put off by it. There is no difference here.

Only since Peterson introduced me to the idea of the Logos, have I began to understand Christianity. I didn't know that "Word" was translated from the Greek word "Logos". 1 John: "In the beginning was the Logos, and the Logos was with God, and the Logos was God.... And the Logos became flesh and dwelt among us."

@@horrificpleasantry9474 Thanks! My primary interest had been early American history. I dropped out of school after the 9th grade. I'm mostly self-educated so their are huge gaps in my education. I tended to learn what I wanted to instead of what I needed to. Anyway, until a few years ago I knew little about ancient history and philosophy. I made a friend on a Civil War history forum that was a philosopher and was well versed in Old World history and religion. I was raised a Christian, turned to Atheism in my teens and now I'm looking back at Christianity. It's took a while, I'm over sixty years old. LOL It's seems that Paul was appealing to the Athenian philosophers by using a concept they were familiar with. Thanks for your response, it was most helpful to my understanding.

Plato wrote about the idea that the highest form of reality could not be accessed with our senses. For example, the idea of Beauty. Nothing in the material world is always beautiful. A thing can only be beautiful for a moment. A work of art breaks or decays with age. A beautiful woman can hold onto Beauty only temporarily. There can be a beautiful birth or a beautiful death. An athlete performing flawlessly can be beauty. Plato called them Forms. Forms were in the spiritual realm. He believed we were born with knowledge of the Forms. That's probably why a newborn prefers beautiful pictures over ugly or terrifying ones. Beauty is only perfect and eternal, in the spiritual realm, the realm of the Forms. Heaven...

Trinity belief was incorporated into Christianity by apostles who were inspired by ancient Greek pagan gods.They ascribed a son to God. Pagans had idols. When asked why they are worshiping to an inanimate object who couldn't even defend itself, they'd say, "this idol is representation of gods". Same goes with paganistic trinity belief.

The biggest struggle for me is to provide forgiveness and not seek revenge. The urge to right wrongs is so primal and ingrained especially if the wrong was deeply scarring and life impacting. The only way is to not provide the forgiveness I can but "borrow" Christs perception and imagine/redirect the level forgiveness Christ has. There is something there so powerful I cannot completely wrap my mind around but is profoundly divine nonetheless.

2:28 - "And, Christ, by definition - this is independent of anything but conceptualization - is by definition the best that a man can be." For believers and non-believers alike, let's not get our trousers in a bunch with the title. Peterson is simply stating that Christ is set up as an archetype in the New Testament, and that this is true "independent of anything but conceptualization." That is to say, Peterson is not considering the truth claim in itself of the statement "Christ is the best a man can be." What Peterson is saying here about Christ as an archetype is informative for both the believer and non-believer and really shouldn't bother either.
@MiguelArcangel12
@MiguelArcangel12 5 жыл бұрын
@Brian Clark It doesn't. The point here is that the New Testament sets up Christ as an archetype. Other systems will set up other figures as archetypes. Perhaps you ought to actually read comments before you reply to them.

In the same vein Jung said that we had reached a point where we couldn't unconsciously accept our scripture and that we would have to come to understand the deeper significance of it. In various forms, Luke 17:21 has Jesus say "The Kingdom of God is everywhere but man can't see it (unless he has been saved) And being saved means accepting Jesus Christ into your heart traditionally. What does that mean? Perhaps the understanding of who Jesus the man actually was and acting it out like Peterson says.

@@SaturnVII Well, "letting Jesus into your heart" may the way some modern Christians describe it, but I can't recall any Bible verse stating it would be so. The way the Bible puts it is that you have to repent of your sins and believe in Jesus (believe in the sense of putting all your trust on it.) Paul writes it like this (paraphrizing here, since I'm not a native English speaker): Whoever professes with his mouth that Jesus is the Son of God, and believes in his heart (the biblical concept of your will, your desires, what you strive towards) that he rose from the dead is going to be saved. What does that mean? If you profess that Jesus was the Son of God, it means that you say: "Jesus is who he claimed to be. He is the promised redeemer (Jesaja 53), He came to suffer and die for all my sin, for all my wickedness." And by believing - again trusting - that he rose from the dead, you believe that he had victory over death. In him, through him I'm going to live. I don't know how musically inclined you are, but I would really recommend the St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach. There are a couple of English versions out there, and listening to the music while really focusing on the text and how they work together, has always made a big impact on me. I wish you the very best, and hope that somehow you still may read this after all the time you left you initial comment. God bless you. J.

What John Piaget says about children acting out and dramatizing ideas before they understand them is very true. When I was 5, I had a crush on a girl that I was friends with in my neighborhood. We'd often come over and play at each other's houses and sometimes we'd watch TV together. Whenever I was at her house I would put up with watching shows that I didn't like such as Full House and Lambchops. I did that of my own accord. My dad did not say, "Son, if you really like a girl, you'll put up with things you don't like." Why would he? I was 5, and yet, I acted out an idea before fully understanding it, which in this case was thinking about love.

@peytonsingh6258
@peytonsingh6258 4 жыл бұрын
Brian Clark So because some, not all, religious people force their views, you believe you should be able to force your own? Without God, there is no standard of morality or truth. Our laws would be purely based on what a person subjectively believes is right or wrong. What happens when you have someone who thinks murder is okay? Or even puts into law that atheism should be abolished? That’s would offend you wouldn’t it? Without God, there would be no steadfast reason for anyone to not pillage and conquer whoever and whatever they want because they feel like it. It would also mean that everything we feel, every emotion, every thought process, would be purely chemicals reacting and nothing more. This would also mean that we are just atoms in motion and nothing more my friend. The word religion means that which one binds their heart to. Religion is not the problem my friend, it’s those who take religion into their own hands and use it for the wrong reasons, including forcing it on others. The true God, Jesus Christ, created you and I, and created this universe. However since He creates us with free will, we have the choice to follow God, or take life into our own hands and do whatever we want with it. Including the things you mentioned in your comment. This brought sin into the world, and is the entire reason this world is in a downward spiral like it is. Pride, greed, lust, envy, selfishness, so on and so forth. Since God is a just God, he has to punish sin and evil at his appointed time. But since God is also all-loving, he came down in the flesh, Jesus Christ, to take the punishment of sin in our place. He shed His blood and died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and rose again from the dead the third day, this is the Gospel. So that if we confess our sins and leave them behind, trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior and believe His Gospel, we have everlasting life. Organized religion such as Roman Catholicism, Islam, etc etc, teach that you need to follow rules and do this and that, to get to Heaven, but Jesus says it’s all about humbling ourselves to our sins, and trusting in Him. That’s what Christianity is, and it separates itself from all other religions because it is by God’s grace. It cannot be forced, and shouldn’t be, because God gives us all the free will to choose to believe in His Son or not. I’m sorry that whoever did try and force it did what they did. Even Jesus didn’t do that. You sound very angry with that my friend and I completely understand, because I would to. But without God, your anger is just a chemical reaction to what you feel is injustice. With God, you are a being created and formed by His hands and exponentially loved beyond what any of us could imagine. You are valued, have a purpose, and matter. And what you feel matters to Him. He loves you my friend. God being true means that there is a standard of morality, there is truth, there is weight to your words, and you are loved. God bless!

'God' is an ideal abstraction of human perfection. Child dramatises an idea before he could understand what it is, which is an attempt to embody the ideal. I came to the realization awhile ago that Christ represented the perfect Human Being. I like the message of Christianity. I also like the philosophies of other religions, too. Not to take away from them. It's funny, I came to this Idea years ago after reading the book 'Dune'. Paul was tested by the witches to see if he was a human and not acting with animal instincts - which we are all of the Animal kingdom so to speak. Sometimes good science fiction writers show us truths in a totally different way. I don't understand a lot of what JP is teaching but instinctually I like or need to listen to him. Mark 9:38-50 King James Version (KJV) 38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. 39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. 40 For he that is not against us is on our part. I’m not sure what Peterson is doing could be called miraculous, but he is in many ways doing good for everyone alike by sharing the wisdom he has learned from psychology and the Bible.

I think if Jordan Peterson became a Christian atheist would not take him seriously, and they would not come around to his point of view. so to put it another way, Jordan Peterson might be more valuable to God outside of the church then he is inside of it. Because I think God Judges Men by their actions, and Jordan Peterson does not have to come around the way you want him to in order to go to heaven, he just has to do what God desires, and he's already doing that, so why worry trying to convert him?

@Michael Wilmot Few atheists claim that the universe exists without a creator, but proof is a good starting point, which you have yet to produce.Your argument is one of personal incredulity, 'I don't know therefore god did it', a juvenile response. The universe is hardly 'well orchestrated', extremes of heat, and cold, lack of water and oxygen, disease, cancer, premature birth ad nauseum. Time for you to get your facts right.What really is pernicious is the practice of telling children that faith itself is a virtue, it is an evil precisely because it requires no justification and brooks no argument. Children should be taught to question and think through their beliefs instead of being taught the superior virtue of faith without question. faith can very dangerous when implanted into a vulnerable mind,you being a prime example. You do not have to invoke a supernatural being to observe a world based on observation, reason and science; christianity, Hindu gods, olympians, Islam all share the same kind of mythology. Your fruitless attempt to prove the existence of something which is undefined, ineffable or too mysterious to understand is exactly the position of Peterson, Bruggengate, Ham and the banana man.. Your faith is distinctive from faith in science and is opposed to facts and reason. Hope this clears the juxtaposition, or to quote Confucius,...'it is impossible to wake someone who is pretending to be asleep'.

This video Is very interesting. It helps you answer some questions and new ones are now open. I recognize a pattern in Peterson's definition of Jesus, spirits and definition mathematicians use to create new objects. For those who are familiar with the theory, God exists in the same way numbers, Hilbert spaces or Euclidean spaces do. The interesting question at this point would be..what is the common aim shared by Epopeas, indipendently of the culture?
