Christen Press' Story - "One Nation. One Team. 23 Stories."

Christen Press’ journey took her from a highly successful but often stressful college career in California, to a folded pro league in Florida, to a fresh start in Sweden, and then to a spot as an alternate on the 2012 Olympic Team in England. Along the way she found peace with herself, and in her game, while scoring nearly a goal for every two games she has played for the U.S. Women’s National Team.

Guys yes she's beautiful, but am I the only one who smiled so hard and pumped a fist in the air when she recalled the smile compliment? Christen is honestly so humbled, even if she may not think so, by shouldering the expectations of others on her shoulders and for being so strict on herself- she's amazing, and maybe sometimes she forgets that. Purely incredible. It's wonderful that Christen was able to conquer her inner struggles. I am a musician, and have known so many whose musicianship suffered because of their lack of confidence. It's heartbreaking to watch that eat a person up. It takes a lot of courage to look at yourself deep down and challenge the demons. Christen is one of my favorite athletes. Pure heart.

Toph Beifong Press is a striker....not sure why she doesn't get more attention. However, she has lately. She has a Coppertone commercial now (you can find it on youtube). She doesn't get as much playing time as Morgan, but maybe she will now that some gals are retiring.

One of the most important values of the game is repeatedly lost due to the pressures of always wanting to be the best...I coach these kids to never forget that this beautiful game was created to bring you joy, teach you lessons but most importantly to have FUN doing it...When we huddle up we say "Smile on 3"! Is it any wonder that coaches ask me why my players always seem so happy regardless of the outcome? And we don't lose very often either...I hope that when they move on in their life they remember to smile.

Press loves the game & it's beautiful to see. On your being a coach: Well said. I was lucky enough to have a coach for 10 yrs (with the same team) stress to have fun and I'm glad I quit (as other girls said)/didn't try out senior year of high school because it stopped being enjoyable and I got more into art. (Looking back its a plus since my knees have arthritis) Soccer was fun, but I consider Syracuse (here) to be a small town (obsessed with their sports) & people put too much pressure to win when the point at a young age is to learn, connect, challenge yourself and LOVE the game.
