I purchased a MPR in 6.5 Creedmoor. Here is a list of the problems that I encountered. The muzzle break was mis-timed so it was cockeyed on the barrel. The rail is out of mil specs so only certain types of scope rings will fit. Vortex precision rings when mounted and torqued to spec had wobble in them. Night force rings fit tightly. At first I thought the rings were bad but I tried them on five other rails and they worked perfectly.I had to bed the rail because it was off enough to were it flexed the rail too much when screwed all of the way down. This could lead to unnecessary pressures placed on the scope of you don’t lap your scope rings, which can lead to tracking issues. Their customer services was very good. And the gun does shoot a .5” 5 shot group at 100 yds. I do love the gun though, I just wished these issue didn’t happen with my gun.

My question is how did they allow a 2500 $ gun out the factory this way, Someone failed at their job in the Quality Control dept, how annoying. Sending it, waiting to recieve it after spending that kind of money. Youre a man of patience

Hello...thanks for the info. I have a chance to buy one of these in 300 win mag, would you buy this or a Savage 10/110 Elite Precision 300 Win? Which one do you think would be more accurate?
@TheFullNeilson
@TheFullNeilson 4 жыл бұрын
Is that for a new MPR or a used one? All steel barrel on the MPR or carbon fiber? They would both make excellent rifles. And they should both be sub moa. They are both made by reputable companies that stand behind their products. The MPR will be a much lighter rifle. Thats a double edge sword though. Lighter weight is nicer to carry but usually less stable while shooting. Weight increases stability while shooting. But sucks if you want to hunt with it. Will this be a range rifle only? Are you planning on hunting with it? If you are going to be hiking with it I would get the MPR. If you want to shoot unsupported I would get the MPR. If it's range only off a bench or bipod save the money and buy a Savage 110/100 elite. Another option and I cannot believe I am saying this is a Remington magpul enhanced in 300 win mag. I found one on gun deals the other day for $630 or so and decided to risk it. It is a superb rifle. Ceracoat finish instead of the crappy finish Remington usually uses. Oversized bolt handle, decent stock, threaded barrel, and 5r rifling. I have had some bad experiences with model 700s not having scope base holes drilled straight and bolts being missed timed. This rifle is the best sample of a model 700 I have seen in 15 years. Just bed the recoil lug area with some devcon and you are going to have a very accurate rifle. Just giving you ideas and some things to consider. I hope this helps.

What light weight adjustable chassis would you suggest I look at if I decide to build my own?
@TheFullNeilson
@TheFullNeilson 6 жыл бұрын
Hey I am sorry but I went to reply to one of your other comments and I accidently removed it. I am a big fan of masterpiece arms chassis. I have used a variety of other chassis and they are the most comfortable to me. They make a hybrid and ba lite chassis which is what I would use if I were building my own rig and trying to keep the weight reasonable. I also like the KRG bravo chassis. They are pretty reasonable in price and also pretty light. The barrel you throw on your rifle will be what affect the balance and weight more than just about anything. I hope this helps good luck. So after sending in the rifle the first time the rifle would not shoot even close to sub moa. It averaged groups of 2-3 inches depending on ammo. The best group I got was 1.5 inches. So I sent it back a second time. They verified my findings and replaced the barrel, action, and bolt. Now it shoots 1/2-3/4 moa. I like the rifle design and now that they have delivered on the quality that should be their from the factory I am happy with both rifles. I do think they did right by me. My only reservation is that the initial quality control of what they are sending out the door seems to be all over the place. Hope this answers your question. Have a nice day.

@KMac-ch2np
@KMac-ch2np 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this update! I purchased a MPR in 338 Lapua, issues I have with mine is: the handguard countersink holes being over countersink on one side and under countersink on the other. Bottom 4 look good. Fitting of handguard to chassis looks hand done and not square (gap), and originally the handguard was not centered, however when loosening the screws and re tightening them the handguard would be centered enough to not notice visually an offset. Loose stock when in the locked position (not folded) Pitted barrel Bolt timing (sticky bolt with factory GMM 250 and 300 grain about 80% of the time) Sharp bolt knob Super heavy trigger (personal opinion) Bolt timing is horrible and after I sent pictures in to Christiensen of the pitting they told me it will smooth out over time. (I took offense to this because pitts don't smooth out, they will get worse, in addition the barrel copper fouls like none other. After cleaning copper you can see copper spots, then when you get the rest out you can see the pitts). And I haven't seen this thing shoot sub moa as of yet. I've invested half of a new barrel ($500 80 rounds) just to see if it will smooth out, 338 lapua is not cheap and pitting of any kind from a new barrel is unsat!
@TheFullNeilson
@TheFullNeilson 6 жыл бұрын
I am sorry to hear that. I sure hope mine shoots sub moa or I will be one unhappy customer. I will say that I never strip copper from the bore of my rifles. I have found with every rifle I have owned they shoot better fouled. I will clean out the carbon build up every 150 rounds or so but I leave the copper.

Was sold on this rifle until watching your two videos. Can anyone verify this issue with their own MPR or has anyone checked MPR's in stores to see if this is an issue model wide? When's your third video coming out? Wondering if you'd still recommend the rifle with the given issue?

I have a second one of these rifles in 6.5 Creedmoor which is excellent quality. If you are buying it sight unseen you are going to be taking a gamble. I do not have any plans to shoot a 3rd video anytime soon. KZbin has killed off any incentive I might have had. I am now spending what free time I have with my family and personal hobbies. I have been too busy fishing to do much shooting so far this summer. If anything changes I will post a video. Have a nice day. Avery Neilson

Those defects are a clear indicator or poor craftsmanship. Even thought they are somewhat minor, they should not be sipping rifles in that condition for what they cost. I was just about to buy one of these but I'll pass. Thanks for the informative video.

Great and educational video. Hopefully it's enough to make it work. It sure is disappointing though when you spend the money for a semi custom and they can't get the basic mechanics right. I'm not much of a rifle guy but I sure would be upset if I got a poorly fit Wilson combat 1911😂. At those price points you aren't just paying for something that will work but your paying for something you can be proud of and that showcases mechanical beauty. At least I do. That rifle might shoot well enough but I doubt you'll ever be truly happy with it. In that sense and in that market it's a fail no matter what size groups it shoots. Disappointing, as I like the rifle, I am looking for something exactly like that. Heavy enough to soak up recoil but still portable. I love the way yours looks but I'm afraid it's a hard pass for me. I was actually waiting to see what happened with yours. Maybe bergara, seekins... who knows. Maybe I'll avoid the 700 platform all together given what I learned here. I'll never buy another bolt action without checking primary extraction... when gun shops complain I'll just blame you 😂.
@TheFullNeilson
@TheFullNeilson 6 жыл бұрын
If there is enough primary extraction to cycle the rifle easily and smoothly I will be happy with it the way it is. If there's not enough not I will talk to Christensen Arms or send my bolt off to accutig and get it fixed. Then I will be happy. If you price out what it would cost to build a similar custom rifle then I think you will understand why I am willing to put up with more than what others might tolerate. Good luck checking bolt timing in a gun shop 99 percent of the people who work their will think you are crazy because they do not know what it is. Avery Neilson

Well it really depends on what you are going to do with it. This is a very nitch rifle. If I wanted the best prs rifle those you named would all be a much better choice. This rifle represents to me the ultimate long range field rifle. Mine weighs 10.5-11 pounds with a scope. Most PRS rifles weigh 16 to 25 pounds or so. Great for games bad for hunting. Unless animals or vehicles are packing the weight for you carrying a heavy rifle is no fun. The balance of the rifle is also superb if you need to shoot free hand. This is required at times in the field. Thanks for your comment you are not wrong. Just helping you understand the thought process. Ask yourself what you want to do with your rifle. Then buy or build the right tool for the job. Have a nice day.
