There is a good book called "footplate memories of the LNER" Maude makes several appearances in the book which is about a Railwayman who starts as a lad for the LNER as a cleaner finishing his career as a Superintendent. Apparently she was based at St Margaret's shed for sometime and some others he worked at. It was funny she seemed to follow him around all the way to the end of his career!

I know that from 1929 she was one of the few goods engines that was based at Haymarket until 1963 it seems then based at Dalry Road till 64 and then at Bathgate till 66

I started on the footplate with BR in 1980 and volunteered to fire steam locos for something different to do. Fired Maude many times on the SRPS Santa Specials around the Edinburgh suburban line in the early '80s.

Once again, nineteenth century era locomotives surviving well into the British railways era is a milestone that no other locomotive can achieve.

Ah yes! I was hoping we'd see more of those beautiful one-of-a-kind Scotch engines on here. Very good coverage of these engines. Perhaps the Jones Goods will appear someday? The full name on 'Maude' somewhat reminds me of "Laura Alice Duff Ashton Smith" of the Snowdon Mountain Railway

Maude took part in the 150th Anniversary of Liverpool and Manchester Railway in 1980 and I managed to get shots of her at Victoria Station Manchester when she arrived at midnight prior to the event. I commented on a website that she exited the station wreathed in steam ruining my multi-flash lit shot only to have a response from the fireman on board at the time! 😆 Small World.

@@ChristheXelent I remember riding behind it that year - was it at Giants of Steam? Or was that the GoS when they had 92 Squadron visiting to partner with the newly outshopped Blackmoor Vale? Anyway, the J36 did see some public use, she was around for some weeks if not months.

@IAmMisterTterevel5 жыл бұрын
It's not gonna be a Sole Slip as there's gonna be two new Gresely P2s, the new build 'Prince of Wales' and a replica of class pioneer 'Cock O' The North' with an A4-Styled bugatti nose.

Mister Tterevel being honest, not sure how likely that second one is to be fully completed. As he noted, there have been projects that made progress and then failed

@@connormclernon26 I'm still waiting on the one for Tornado. While not built by the original builders it was named as genuine 50th member of the Class by it's designers wife. That should be more than enough to classify as a sole slip.
@brad27995 жыл бұрын
FutureRail Productions Yeah but considering it’s use for 10 years at many locations yet a Sole SLIP not approaching. Or he’s just going to do it when Tornado’s ticket expires and she’s on display.

Hey I just noticed, you're SLIP episode on Austerities is no longer available. I just went back to try and rewatch it and, apparently it's a private video now. Is there a reason why?
@ChristheXelent5 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is. The reason why the Austerities video is no longer on KZbin is because it has passed its free period. I tend to keep the four latest episodes of SLIPs free at any-one-time before they end up on DVD or as Digital Downloads from the online shop in the description. The Austerities is now on the Volume Four DVD and available on its own as a Digital Download. I hope this helps.
