When I feel “dry” or not hungry for the Lord, or just don’t feel close fellowship with the Lord,,, fasting in addition to prayer and reading the Bible tends to help. When you go through a bout of not feeling God’s presence, the enemy likes to bring fear and cause you to question your status with God or even your salvation itself. But it’s not about how you feel: saved by grace through FAITH for works. Have faith in Christ regardless of what you feel.

I went through a season during which I became discouraged because I couldn't feel God, His Spirit, NOTHING! One day I heard a pastor say these words: "Many times we forget that God doesn't exist for us, to the contrary WE exist for God. This is why we get discouraged when we don't feel something when we pray, when we go to church, when we sing a worship song. We are making worship about us and our desire to feel something." He said "worship Him because He's worthy, worship Him because He's good, worship Him because you exist for him and that is why you're alive". That made every bit of sense to me. I worship God because of who He is... it's not a "quid pro quo" type of situation, like "here God I gave you my song/prayer, now let me feel your presence". This doesn't mean I don't ever feel God. I do, more now than before, but I don't depend on my emotions to start praying or to lift my voice to the Lord in worship. Hope this blesses somebody.

How did you eventually know that you found God? It almost feels like an impossible math problem that I can’t solve. I want to solve it. I want to know the answer. But whenever I feel like I’m getting close, something bad happens in my life and all of the sudden, solving some math problem seems to be the least of my worries. I guess you could say it’s just the devil trying to keep me from finding my true purpose. But knowing that doesn’t make what I’m going through any less difficult. It doesn’t make me feel any less alone. And it doesn’t make life feel any better. I want to know God but more and more it feels like he doesn’t want me to know him. Otherwise he wouldn’t let me keep getting distracted by more suffering. But it’s the suffering that is supposed to lead me to him, some would say. It’s the pain that I’m supposed to be grateful for. I recently came back to Christ after hitting rock bottom in my marriage. In my sorrow i turned to Christ in desperation and was given signs. When things are going better i recognize im not a thirsty for the lord. I have prayed to Christ to keep me sorrowful if thats what it takes for me to feel close to him. The act of praying and recitation of scripture is an act of meditation, actively thinking about every word. Marriage is like a garden, is beautiful, but you have to attend it, sometimes requires work, hard work, is not like cloudy pinkish love, is like when you do your garden, is careful, a labor of love, but of hard work, disciplined applying yourself to grow it and keep it nice, working in oneself, and your house. Discipleship before feelings. Seek ye first the kingdom of heaven, and all these things shall be added unto you. When my son was born, I had ZERO feelings for him, like I did for my daughter. He was a lump of slimy screaming cells, and I had no natural feelings of love for him. My faith told me to love him as God calls me to love him. Love him impartially and as he deserves, so I was obedient to be the best father I could be, regardless of feelings. It took months of discipline until feelings started to grow. Now I can barely think about my son without getting teary-eyed for how much he means to me. Be disciplined first. Be faithful first. Be obedient to God first. Heaven comes later. God(the source of all goodness, love, joy, etc) comes to those who seek with all their heart.

For me, when I pray and I see God answering my prayers, I have feelings. Or when I love someone by giving or praying with them, etc. I get a good feeling. Or when someone shows up at just the right time and the timing is so impeccable that it can only be God, I get a feeling. I’ve had times where I have felt his presence near, especially when walking through something hard. It felt like a hush over my home. A quiet calmness. I’ve had times where I have gotten chills or felt an almost static electricity feeling go through my body during prayer, but it’s not all the time. I wish it were all the time. I wish I could feel His presence all of the time. I have prayed about it and recently He’s told me to sit with the hurting, pray for the grieving, open my home, those sort of things. This morning I prayed, Lord, put people in my path I can share your love with and vice versa. After that prayer, it’s hard to not go through my day looking for who God might be put in my path. It’s like the radar goes up. And sure enough, today, my battery died on my car. Someone jump started it for me and then at the auto parts store someone installed it for me. Both times they helped me, but in the mean time, I listened to a little bit of their stories. One of which I told God Bless You to and the other, who opened up quite a bit, I told them I would pray for them. Maybe I should have asked to pray right then and there, but I’m still learning and I have in fact prayed for them since. So when I see God answer these prayers, the interruption in my day is no longer an interruption but a welcomed opportunity. I wasn’t left stranded anywhere. I see that God answered my prayer and I feel gratitude toward Him and it fills me with joy and love knowing He heard my prayer. I didn’t necessarily feel His presence when I prayed in that moment, but now in hindsight I see Him. And what I know is that He has heard my prayer for those 2 people and I believe He will continue to work in their lives as well. It did require discipline to wake up and start my day with prayer and time in His Word, but I have seen Him answer these prayers so often that it doesn’t feel like a chore, but it’s something I look forward to each morning. I write my prayers in a journal. I find this to be helpful. Sometimes I write what sticks out to me in my reading and I may ask questions and sure enough I will start seeing those answers coming in, maybe in a form of a sermon or someone unknowingly mentioning exactly what I was thinking and praying about. It seems like coincidences at first, but just know, it’s not. The miracle many times is in the timing. ❤

Even when you feel down and not close to Our Lord one day remember that we are in spiritual war. In wars you win some battles and lose some but just because you lose battles does not mean you will lose the war. Do not panic when you don’t feel close to Our Lord but in stead show up even harder in those moments and be disciplined.

I feel the Holy Spirit most when I'm praying facedown, on my knees, or sometimes even sitting on my bed praying. I feel Him because I have a relationship with Him. I dont ever want to lose these feelings with Him. But I've heard people say there comes a time when we wont feel Him because He'll test us to see if we won't act on feelings. I will remain steadfast by the grace of God. But oh how I know I'll miss His presence until He allows me to feel Him again if He tests me that way. 😭❤️🙏🏽

We bow 'humbly' in the presence of God, at the throne of grace. We need mercy and grace to help in time of need. If we were feeling holy or worthy, what would be the point of looking for help. We approach God in the name of the Lord Jesus, which means according to His will and as if He was praying Himself and not us, and our acceptance before God is 'In Christ'. We are sinners and will always be sinners and it is time that we ALL, protestant and Catholic, realised that our self righteousness and trying to feel 'worthy' is obnoxious to God. If you are a born of the Spirit child of God, then God loves you with an everlasting love and nothing can separate you from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. Just lift your heart up to Him, He knows and understands your need.

Gabbi After Hours teaches mental prayer which is a way to feel the tugs of the Lord in our heart. I had trouble explaining it to my husband before his explanation. But prayer is a discipline and you dont always "feel" like it. Sam does a great job opening tge scriptures.

Personal experience .. i think for me personally i had to understand that the holy spirit was already within me more than to receive it . Yes sometimes you feel empty and hopeless .. but that's not from God , its is said in the bible "Trust and you shall receive" trust that the holy spirit dwells within you or that you are receiving it and it shall be so !

If you truly abide in Christ and enjoy the disciplines of the faith then there should be subjective experience. Look 1st John, Ephesians 3 etc, but we must give ourselves to the word, meditation, prayer etc and as your heart is tenderized you will most certainly experience the work of the Spirit. We never use experience as the plumb line of our faith, but it should be there if you are doing the disciplines.

I doubt this is the full truth about feelings. Joy and peace are fruits of the spirit, they are feelings. Its easy to spin the bible into showing its not about feelings. In my opinion thats showing only one side of the coin. Once you get severe mental health issues, you will realise how everyday life is based and dependant on how you feel. Even going to the gym when you tired shows not wanting to go is NOT the ONLY feeling you have. You have motivation, resilience, past experience, a healthy mind which work together to bring you to certain choice. Take away your general mental health and your whole look on everything in life is different. The texts shown often talk about external circumstances, not about what believers felt while in them. You cant take one part of faith, the moment when someone doesnt feel something, and act as if that is the whole story. There are so many examples in the Bible where feelings are involved in so many ways. Least this brother could have done is pray with the other brother for some peace and joy in his faith.

Faith is not feelings. Feelings are not something one should EVER trust especially when it comes to the spiritual. There is a big difference between your gut telling you something isnt right and feelings. In all 4 gospels Yeshua says If anyone wishes to follow me, let him DENY HIMSELF (Servant of all, their needs before mine) pick up his cross, and follow me. So he IDENTIFIES the cross as my cross I am to pick up my cross and there is only one place you are going that requires a cross. The "old man" is dead and buried in the grave... If your walk is based on "feelings" that is not a good thing. Faith is believing what God says as already existing. Abraham BELIEVED God and it was credited to him as righteousness.

What is meant by exercise, training and discipline? So many words undefined. I'm not sure where the practical application or wisdom are. These all sound like activities I should be doing. But I don't understand how, I'm to go about doing them? Am I ever going to get better? Am I ever going to get this? Almost 4 decades on, and I must still not be comprehending something basic. Try to find a time in the day you simply read something in the Bible and a time for prayer. Start simple. A little time for God. Every day. And you can make time to go to mass, say every week or two times a month. And stay with that practice. Don’t leave it. Another practice is fasting. There is a church kalender. You can read the prayer of the day and the Jesus prayer If you take half an hour every day at a certain time, your getting your routine Lots of success. The Lord save you and guide you🙏🌹

I myself would approach this question very differently. If someone asks why they have no emotion toward God, I would want to know if they have experienced remorse for their sins, which alone leads to repentance. You cannot repent of your sins if you don't experience remorse. I heard nothing in this man's discussion that would lead me to believe he is in the faith. By the way, the idea of feelings should not be held in contempt because the human psyche was created by God to know emotion. It is rather thick headed in my view to deny this. God bless.

There are times like right now That I'm depressed and down. And people around here don't help and are not supportive, they're the opposite. Right now, unfortunately, they salt the wound and are being malicious to be honest. Its not good here where we're living right now.

I would urge anyone who thinks they 'feel god' in any capacity to run away from whatever it is. That's not how God works. You're either tricking yourself through emotion or an unclean spirit is baiting you in to treating it as an idol by feeding you the responses you want. If you doubt me, ask 'it' if it loves Jesus Christ as the only begotten son of God.

I dont know if this will come off as mean but to me, it seems as if people are just not aware of the spiritual aspect of things since God will not let us be tempted past our abilities. I hope people will find these things without having to experience darkness but without good leaders sometimes i wonder if that is the only way
