Resurrection Mission Baptist Church of Berkley, Michigan, Oakland County, resurrectionmi... presents Pastor Joseph Chatten speaking on, Christian Fathers (Eph. 6:4).
This is a series of sermons on “Living the Lordship of Christ.” Eli failed to discipline his son and brought disgrace on the children of Israel. Jacob showed favoritism to Joseph. A father has several responsibilities toward his children. First, he must not provoke them. Paul told parents not to abuse their children. Col. 3:21. “Provoke not your children.” The opposite is encouragement. Do not provoke your child by saying one thing and doing another. Discipline them in nurture and admonition, emotionally and spiritually. Eph. 5:29; Lk. 2:50. He must discipline them. It is translated chastening in Heb. 12:6. Who the Lord loveth He chasteneth. Prov. 13:24. We must discipline in love and not in anger, lest we injure the spirit or body of the child. A Christian father needs discipline himself. Flying off the handle never made a better father or child. It very important to discipline your child, but if done in the wrong way can damage them for the rest of their lives. Admonition means to instruct and encourage. Our instructions should always be based on scripture. 2 Tim. 3:13-17.
