The Greek word, "doulos," referred to slaves in biblical times, but to Christians today in a New Testament context. There were six million slaves in Roman times and there are no biblical injunctions against it. However, the Apostle Paul’s ministry contributed to the abolition of slavery. 1 Cor. 7:21-24. Paul admonished prisoners to be faithful to their masters. Today employees should show proper respect to their employers. “Singleness of heart” in doing a good days work is important. Doing good work is the will of God. A Christian can perform any work as a ministry to Christ. A worker should do his work from the heart. It is important to have the right heart attitude on the job and be blessed by God. Even harsh treatment should not prevent workers from doing their best on the job. We receive our reword from Christ not from men. Heb. 11:1. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Next week we discuss Christian Masters.
