This really hit the nail on the head for me: I struggle with pride and I had no clue how bad it was. I have been trying to think of me less and more of others. haha I'm so glad I'm not alone in not knowing what to say when people compliment me! I used to get so awkward or feel guilty saying "thank you" and I would want to fit so much in a tiny response. I ended up just saying "thank you" because saying, "all the glory to God" was a mouthful and felt artificial because I was saying it because I knew I should. You bring up a good point by saying that humility is about thinking of ourselves less. We should not always be peering in but instead look around and think of the needs and desires of those around us. This was a really helpful video, thank you for sharing! :)

Great video again Justin! That quote towards the end is one of my favourites on humility. We're pros at deflecting compliments and putting ourselves down in Britain, so it took a while to learn this, haha! At times when people come to me for help or advice sometimes i feel a slight change in my mind, some preachers would say they feel like they have been inhabited by the spirit or the lord when they give a speech etc, anyway for me its more like a change in mind where the words dont really feel like they are coming from me, in times like that i know that god is reaching out to the person that is seeking help through me, when they would thank me etc yeh i would say thank you to but when i feel that it was gods doing i always let them know that its god who really deserves their thanks

“Humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less. Say thankyou when someone praises you of the good qualities and thank god for the grace of enabling others through me.” This touched me. Now i feel a little confident i understand humility a bit more. More excerpts i found on youtube here as i was trying to demistify humility :- Humility is the inner awareness of your own frailty. Being grateful unto God for every gift you have as nothing really belongs to us. In life, do not look down upon others and do not look up unto others. Knowing that there is God in each and every person and treating them with respect and regard.

I can only do this with my wife and people very close to me and who know me well. Sometimes my wife will say something like, "That was a great sermon." I'll reply, "I know!" But I say it with a sense of wonder and surprise. The fact of the matter is that the almighty God does use feeble, fallible people, like me, to accomplish His purpose. I study. I try to speak clearly. I give it my best shot. On the other side of the ledger, I pray and I seek the empowerment of the Spirit. Sometimes God uses me and I know it. There's no pride there. It's truly humbling. Good work, Justin.

Yay for addressing the easy pitfall of false humility. A few thoughts that came up and I believe are complementary: "True humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less" - and not believing what you or others say about you, but what God says about who you are. (which to someone only knowing the former could sound beyond proud because nobody think more highly of you than God) Also, there was a moment in your video that bordered on creating a false dichotomy along the lines of "the choice is to either reject praise for something and implicitly deny the power of God, or to just accept the praise, but not forget who gave you the gift." I don't see that dichotomy at all and, given it's genuine, consider something like this: Someone: your [video] is absolutely amazing, you are so [insightful, wise and funny]! You: Thank you! I am actually amazed myself how well I can [express His truth and love]. (The more my relationship with God grows and I am surrendering my own wisdom and am renewed in Him, the more I experience the reality that) He truly gave me His nature, I am truly in Him and He is in me, and with Him all things are possible and there is absolutely no limit to my potential to [speak God's truth in a way that can touch people's hearts and help them know God better]. Shalom aleichem

At 1 Peter 3 v 8 it tells us "All of you be.......humble in mind" To truly be God's friends we must be "humble in mind" (Psalms 138 v 6) The importance of humility is shown in an illustration found in Judges chapter 9. The olive tree, the fig tree, and the vine represented worthy individuals who did not seek to rule over their fellow Israelites. But the bramble represented the Kingship of proud Abimelech, a murderer eager to dominate others. Abimelech met an untimely death. (Judges 9 v 8--15, 22, and 50--54) How much better it is to be "humble in mind." In the first century C. E, when Herod Agrippa was giving a public address, the crowd cried out ; "A God's voice, and not a man's" Herod did not reject such adulation, and God's angel struck him so that he died a terrible death. "because he did not give the glory to God" (Acts 12 v 20---23) What if we are somewhat skilled as a speaker or a teacher of bible truths? Then let us credit God for what he allows us to do. (1 Corinthians 4 v 6--7 and James 4 v 6)
@jessicamccarlson7 жыл бұрын
All great points! Another thing to add is that in order think of yourself less, you'll need to start thinking about something else more. All throughout scripture we're pointed to Jesus as the ultimate example of humility (in Philippians 2:1-11 especially). And from the way Jesus' talks we can discern some of the things He thinks about: the Father, scripture (just the OT at the time), and [drumroll]... us! In Phil 2 it says, "...in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others," which is exactly what Christ did on the cross! : )

I'm just learning about true humility now. The Vines dictionary describes it as "love-lying (always in a good sense), humbleness in mind, lowiness of mind" while the dictionary says "not proud or arrogant, modest, lowly, courteously respectful, low in rank, to lower in importance and to destroy the independent power or the will of" WOW right? I was shocked by how little I knew about humility. So in saying all this I would say it's more of an internal response than the outward words that we either say or don't say. I could say "all the glory to God" but on the inside if I'm beaming with pride then thats wrong, God hated pride! God knows our hearts and inner most thoughts so there is no fooling Him!

Whenever someone praises me, I have to say 'Praise Jesus' because it is actually Him who trained me, saved me and brought me where I am. This is true that I was a nobody and on the path of destruction but God saved me. Now when people seek my advice and graciously my advice seems Godly, I bloat up. Pride keeps crawling in even though my goal is to be humble. Another reason could be that I was careless with work at one point of time, however, now God, through a prophecy, has made me a job giver. I selfishly want the business to grow, enjoy the riches, and still want to be humble but pride keeps crawling in. Can someone suggest how to cope up with it?

I believe that glory should always be to God/Jesus concerning all thing's, because Yeshua (Jesus) made it clear that we can do *nothing* without Him: JOHN 15:5 - *I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.* *ALSO:* 1 CORINTHIANS 10:31 - *Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.* So, overall, I understand what was said in the video. I think it's important just to be VERY watchful of out heart's that they dont get "puffed up" & we begin to think highly of ourselves. Pride is the opposite of humility: So, I don't believe The Lord wants us to "look down" on ourselves in a "bad" sense, but look down as in have lowliness of mind, not thinking high-minded of ourselves like were "all that" (so to speak.) Scripture does tell us to esteem others better than ourselves: PHILIPPIANS 2:3 - *Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.*

Some times it’s hard to be humble when you been Gang stalk by a group of people who want to destroy your life! But I understand that God made us all and that we have to love our enemies and bless, them but I deal with harassment and stalking everyday, I also hear voices that insult daily and comment negative things on everything I do, I know I’m not schizophrenic, and what I want to figure out is if this identities I hear are demonic or it’s some type of technology doing it, because the voices and harassment and stalking goes together, and when I say it’s not schizophrenia it’s because this voices can predict what’s going to happen and they let me know, some talk Good and some are evil! It’s more like if they where mediums! I never seek no witchcraft nor any other thing but the Bible I rise a Christian since a kid and going to do nothing like that! On the other hand I know it’s possible and there’s technology that do this induce voice into your head, and I don’t know how to free from this! Other people have the same experiences and they call it’s (Gangstalking) one thing I know it’s completely demonic, like I know because I have confirm it’s they can communicate with other people that target me! I have confirm this there people that take orders from this voices! To harass and stalk a target!
