I recently got it but have been heavily turned off by the demon people and the druids making magic circles chanting right at the beginning. As a Christian, doesnt thisnbother you? The bible commands us to not associate with anything that has the appearance of evil.. i feel bummed because everyone sold this game as the ultimate choose your own way to play the game, so i thought it would be open in the vein of skyrim, but its forcing me to go through these things. Call me an idiot for playing a DnD game expecting something more tame but this is my first experience with it.

That's a fair criticism. For me, there is a good amount of separation from my life and this game. I don't feel guilt in these actions, but the same time, that doesn't mean that I'm actually trying to participate with the druids' rite. There's a balance of separation, but also a balance of what I still won't do. The romance option is pushed in the game, but I don't follow that, because there's sex in the game and I struggle with that sin. Since the game is more on the side on what choice do you wanna make, you can try to steal the idol the druids are using for the ritual. Lately, my friend and I were playing together and that's what we were doing😂 If the game still troubles you, no matter how "good" the game is, don't feel pressure to play the game.

Are you talking about the tieflings? I think they're a great analogy of otherness or literally being born in sin. They represent in a fantasy sense the "other" and I like having that lens to look through. They are the scary looking other people out there but if you talk to them and get to know them then you realize that they are more than their appearance. It also fits in that they are literally born from evil but that does not have bearing on who they are as a person, only on how they are perceived by the outside world, just as Christians are sinners from birth by no fault of their own yet they persevere. I like to think that through that lens, you might think to look at the people who intimidate you in real life and try saying hi to them. You might judge their outward appearance a little less and look at what is inside them.
@MrSneakSneak

@@persimmonplays2399 not to get in a theological debate, but people are not sinners by birth. Sin by biblical definition is transgression of the law (1 John 3:4), and a baby can't break the law of God, especially by being born. A more accurate description would be a sinful inclination. Your analogy would be interesting but they are born of specific demons and you RP by befriending them. Humans have no demonic origin, they are made in God's image, so it doesn't work to transpose a demonic origin in them and relate it to a sinful lifestyle. It just trivializes things that are quite literally demonic in nature + creation and attempting to befriend it.

@@MrSneakSneak tiefling lore is a little deeper than that. Some are born directly from an infernal parent but most are just born of other tieflings. Some are born tiefling because someone in their lineage made a deal generations before. A literal sins-of-the-father trope. They could be real-world synonymous with someone born a bastard which isn't their fault but they'll be treated differently because of it or even a literal analogy to the demonization of refugees. This is a fantasy space of course so it's literally a "interpret what you want" from it. If you want to see a bunch of scary demons and leave it at that then that can be all they are to you. But also this is a fantasy game made by human people, it's weird to read into it as literally demonic instead of seeing it as a skin to tell a deeper story.

Thanks so much for the review. I would say as a christian the thing that turned me off most about the game is the "good demons" concept you usually see in some RPGs, but i'm still on the fence about it because I like DnD-styled CRPGs that let you make your own choices and my friends won't stop talking about this game. I'm still on the fence about it, but this review did make me feel better about giving it a try.

Glad I could help. I definitely agree, that I don't like it when secular media tries to show demons as good, but from what I've experience, its more the opposite. At one point, you get tempted to make a deal with a devil, and while you have the choice to make it, it is heavily implied that its probably not a good call. Either choice you make, I respect your decision, especially if its out of protection for yourself.

This game sounds really fun! My friend and i are thinking of getting this game to fight and to be friends with a lot of characters. But i am very concerned if it is demonic and satanic by like the characters are demons or devils type of thing, trying to protray them as a good and acts like humans. Or anything that they may call themselves gods and that they are gods. I appreciate the reviews! It gives me insight on whether if this game worth my money.

I’m glad you have that concern. I would say this is a great game to play with your friend. After the video, I got to play with one of my friends and boy was there shenanigans. I think overall the game doesn’t really make any of the possible satanic stuff seem good. There are characters that you meet early on that are the race teiflings. Teiflings are a race that look like devil people but they are basically a race of people who come from devils and humans (not in a good way), which impacts the race in being discriminated. That’s something that if you don’t play dnd that could be a red flag for most people.

I also love DnD. And was looking forward to this game SO much. But there’s so many demons.. and devils.. and the Bible explicitly tells us to not associate with anything with an appearance of this. Right? I want to play this so badly but it’s like.. idk, man. I read passages like: Luke 11:34-36 “Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light. But when it’s evil, your body is full of darkness. Therefore, be careful that the light in you isn’t darkness” And, 1 Corinthians 10:31 “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” and can’t help but ask myself.. would God want me playing a game where demons and devils and “hells” are a casual occurrence? 🥴 I’m torn. God gives us freedom to serve Him according to our convictions and conscience.. so of course each of has our own convictions. I think mine are telling me to avoid demonic imagery.

I’m glad that you’re concern. I would say that most of the “demons” that you’ve probably saw of the game are a race called tieflings. They look like demons but aren’t. They are a race that are actually discriminated for their appearance. Definitely prayer and discernment is good. I haven’t felt guilty or any tug from the Holy Spirit, but still. I respect your decision either way and I’ll be praying for you.

Question, an I just genuinely want to know how others handled this. What about the demons and acknowledging other gods to where you have to fight them and they just use the term gods way too much?
@CHRISTIAN_GAMER
@CHRISTIAN_GAMER 5 ай бұрын
When I play games with the usage of gods I either just go in with the understanding that this game isn’t our real reality with God. So I try to keep an open perspective with what the game is trying to say by their gods. The other way I look at them is how they are in our real life, just all demons. What others have looked at as gods in the past are just demons. I’ve heard of an account of people dealing with a demon affecting someone and during it the name of the demon was literally zeus. So those are some of my perspectives when playing games with gods and demons, but a lot of it is just disassociation that this is not reality.

Hello, I saw you're video while trying to figure out if this game is safe to play from a religious point of view, like if playing it goes against God and if the game is demonic and if I should stray away from it, I have been raised by my parents to avoid demonic content and I try to do so with everything, but my friend keeps recommending this game so I'm trying to figure out if it's ok, I do realize the sexual content exists there and that is a concern too, but my friend says that can be avoided, I'm more concerned with the possible demonic presences as the last thing I want to do is go against God and sin by playing this game. Also, for a little more context behind myself, I am autistic, I take things to a literal extreme, and I like to play games as if they are real life, like I treat characters like real people, with kindness and goodwill, while still knowing thay nothing I do in the digital realm is permanent and real. (That last part doesn't apply for all games though, just usually ones with a visual, movie-like story, I know battle royals exist and that is just a game to me.)

Thanks for asking, and I totally understand. I think it’s great that you’re taking this seriously. I do believe it’s not bad to error on being more cautious than not. BUT. In this case, where I stand is that this game gives you a lot of choices. As mentioned in my video, you get attempted at one point to make a deal with a devil, but that is true our lives today. If you wanna play a really good game that gives you a lot of choices (both good and bad) than this game could be good for you. But if playing a game that even gives the choice to have sex, kill, and follow other gods is bad, than maybe it’s better to try and stay strong and not play this game. I really relate with treating characters in story-based games like you would in real life, and to some extent I do that with Baldur’s gate. There are some areas that I still keep in mind that this game is a secular game. This is based on Dungeons and Dragons and with it is filled with stuff like: demons, devils, dragons, and multiple gods, buuuuuuut - this is also a game that allows you to go on an adventure and be a hero (especially in a way you want to) I hope this helps. I’ll be praying.

I'm in act 3 as an Astarion romance and Astarions whole story is about breaking cycles of abuse. Astarion was still a child as elf standards go when he was turned and has been a victim for 200 years since. As a player you have the chance to help him get closure and heal. Also, as a Christian I believe in accepting someone as they are and having compassion for their lived experiences

Genuine question as someone who is looking into this game: isn’t there a part in act 3 where you can make a deal with the devil and go to hell? I’m just trying to navigate that spiritually. Like, I recently deleted and stopped playing Persona 4 & 5 after being bothered by their use of tarot cards and that the ending of Persona 5 SPOILER WARNING . . . . . . . . . . Has you kill a version of god (even though he’s gnostic) by summoning satan on Christmas Day. That just doesn’t sit right.
@CHRISTIAN_GAMER
@CHRISTIAN_GAMER 8 ай бұрын
Sadly this might be a question that I need to be asked later. I’m just barely making my way into Act 3 of Baldur’s gate. I’ve heard kinda hints of what your referring to and so far my answer is the same. This game gives a lot of free will. What choice do you want to make. Do we as Christians want to make the deal with the devil and etc.. For those actually choosing to make the deal with devil to see how the story goes, I definitely understand that, but I’m not sure if I recommend it. I’m still playing it safe and avoiding stuff like that which are a little too close to stuff I don’t want to actually do outside of game. For Persona, I understand your struggle with the series. I personally have had the same struggle. I like the story and the gameplay the game has, but I don’t like the usage of the tarot cards. I do like keep in perspective of what the game is actually using the tarot cards for, and it’s not it’s original intent of divination, but instead grouping characters into basically archetypes. It’s like if to symbolize four characters coming together in unity you use a cross to show that, because “cross good right” even though that’s not quite the meaning of the cross. Sadly I haven’t beaten Persona 5 so I can’t speak for its ending and I’m gonna avoid the spoiler (thank you so much for the spoiler warning), but even though this jrpg series is one of my favorite - I see no problem with you not playing this anymore. It’s not exactly the best game for Christian, because of it’s pagan beliefs. More importantly, if the Holy Spirit is telling you to not, then it’s good to listen. Thanks for your comment. I’m sorry that I can’t help answer too well. I’ll lift up a prayer for God’s discernment.
