When they visited him the second time, Christian was more composed, matured. He was like i love you guys to death but I also have Lion things to do now. So sweet and touching.

It's so heartwarming and brings me to tears, in a good way. But also from sadness, to my understanding George Anderson was murdered in the region he spent decades defending the lives of lions.

My only hope is that Christian lived out his days to their fullest, along with his pride, and that he was NEVER poached and (hopefully) never killed by rival lions trying to take over his pride. But I guess we'll never know how long he actually lived since the two men lost track of him completely and George Adamson himself was later found murdered.

Crystal Rose wild lions' lifespan is only about 12--15 years. So Christian was already died around 1981--1984 if he didn't get suffered from rivals or any other unexpected diseases. So Christian should have died way before George Adamson. But one sure thing was Christian died as a king! He lived his life to the most with his lioness family. RIP.

Ace and John wrote a book about their experience with Christian and there's a movie called Born Free based on a similar situation that their friend George Anderson and his wife had. It's about their lion friend, Elsa, who's mother died and how they saved her and her sisters.

He actually lived very close to where I am now! The Moravian chapel grounds is on the opposite side of my road (Milmans Street) where they exercised Christian - I didn't live here then but my older neighbours remember him well from the shop and from the Moravian church! Aparently, he used to go to a local restaurant (now closed) with those two guys! Totally amazing!!!!

I love this story. It shows that animals feel accepted as family members and feel love as well as give it. I hate it when you hear about animal abuse. Every animal has a mentality of a certain age. For example dogs reach a mentality of a 3 year old human. Animals are gentle to us so we need to be gentle back.

Hi powermacuser12. I met John and Ace 3 day ago at a book release. The most wonderful people you would like to meet. Christian had no chance with these guys. he was destined to be the Lion of Lions. Ace and John were his guardian's and he couldn't have found better people to lead him back to his rightful home. R.I.P George Adamson.

@mustangersalie Christian was born in 1969, that would make him forty one years old. In the wild lions average a lifespan of around fifteen or sixteen years. (In captivity they can live up to thirty years old however.) In other words Christian is clearly dead. However, Christian would likely remember them no matter what age he was-- they were like his parents and studies have shown that pack animals can clearly recognize their family members years after they part.

when I was looking for a Nat. Geo. video of a man & wife who lived near a pride of lions called "Walking for Lions", online cause i saw it on tv I came across the reunion video of Ace, John & Christian I was put off by the reunion video. Cause the doc. I was looking for was a serious piece, I assumed this video was fake & I was really really put off by the video. It left a bad taste in my stomach. But after watching the christian documentary about the entire story it has come to become one of my favorite KZbin videos. Godbless Ace, John & Christian

RonnyUniverse please don't forget about one very important man in this real story -- George Adamson who for more than three years, had been training and preparing Christian ready to go back to a wild world where he meant to be. George is well known as a father of lions. Without his effort, Christian wouldn't survived any longer.

not any more. a tame cat wouldn't live this long. it is to be hoped the lion lived a good decade past his release, won many fights, killed much prey, mated many lionesses & sired many cubs. & died a quick & heroic death in an eventual last defence of his successful pride (or better yet, got to sleep away of tired old age) nice story & those two guys need hailed as heroes.

We cannot, through any set of laws, legislate a change of heart; all we can do, as Ghandi said, is "be the change you want to see in the world." We can only change ourselves, and then lead others by our own shining example. Everyone grows/evolves at their own pace and in their own way. People always resist whatever they are not (yet) prepared to receive or learn.

There are quite a few comments on here wondering if the two men who raised Christian the Lion are a gay couple. No they aren't...not that it should matter one iota if they are. Go online and read up on this story, you will find out that the girlfriend of one of the men was instrumental in also raising the lion.

No, they are not "gay", they were, and one hopes still are, friends. That, however, is fucking IRRELEVANT to what they did; they rescued the little cub and finally returned him to the wild. It's a great story and what they did is extraordinary. BUY THE BOOK and support The George Adamson Trust.

16 - 18 years in captivity. a wild lion will, if VERY clever, healthy & strong, live to around 8-12 years. maybe 15yo if it's exceptional or lacks other regularly encroaching males (unlikely) the lion may (hopefully did) have lived a long contented life & may it have died well when it's time came. that is the best you can wish for wildlife.

If you watch the documentary on youtube, (sometimes it gets taken down by youtube for copyright violation) (you can download the documentary through torrent) in 1969 when they bought christian in London they had just moved from Australia along with both of their girlfriends. There were the four of them living together, (5 if you count christian) living together in a flat in London. So No, they are not gay
