Just as I'm starting to feel my lower back getting troublesome after deadlifts. I guess that's my cue. Thanks for the reminder.

this kind of wisdom usually only comes from guys with years of training behind them - young guys will hear this and yet keep grinding for fear of losing gains and their bodies can usually handle the abuse...until it doesn't - it's been great to watch Dave and Christian become well-seasoned as they age and continue to speak to people at every level of the training spectrum...

Training is like driving a car u have different speed limits u dont drive free way speed all the time, when u come off the speed way u have varied speed limits which would represent the level of intensities

I believe most serious lifter would benefit from a prolonged “vacation” away from the gym, especially if they’ve been consistent for a good amount of years rarely missing any training days. I think many are overtrained beyond what their bodies are capable of fully recovering & adapting too. I’m currently on one such vacation, due to some nagging pains. Been away for at least a month for the entire body and I actually seem to have gained muscle. I definitely was overtrained.

Hardest lesson to learn is to stay out of the gym. 65 and trying to lose a lifetime of bad habits. Find the sweet spot for strength/growth.

I've had enough of those forced lay-offs from training. Thanks for the reassurance.

Would this work in a segmented way? Like you take 4 weeks off from training legs, but still do upper body. And then take 4 weeks off training back, but do pushing, and legs?

I've done a kind of deload for chest, my bench press was stock and I was dropping about 5 lbs from the bar each session. Then for 2 weeks I programmed like a bro split just for chest, hitting chest just 1 day a Week for no more than 6 sets. That just worked awesome, then I got back to upper lower hitting PRs for my bench again.
