Hugely respect Dave having someone on who is against something Dave advocates heavily for (speed work, bands) and not only listening to him but putting out his perspective as a seperate vid. I feel like most people wouldn't do that.

You can tell for Jimmy his schedule and his lifting notebook are very important, and I think that's a big part of why he trains the way he does. Especially if you don't have your own gym and can't just set your chains how you want or always use exactly the same bands, consistency gets very difficult. How long was the chain leader? What link was clipped to the leader? These things make a big difference in where the weight actually lifts off the ground. An even bigger difference if you're trying to be the all time world record holder I really don't want to write "315 bench with 18 link lead chain, 65 lb chain clipped in the middle" in my book, which is why I work out in my garage.

Honestly just do what works for you but don’t be afraid to try what’s worked in the past or what others have done. It might work it might not. That’s what makes the fitness journey enjoyable. Anything can work. You don’t have to hate anything just see the value in it & get a deep understanding of whatever it is. Not everything will work for everyone but don’t disregard it for someone else b/c you don’t like it. Always keep an open mind about everything as a trainer, athlete, or just the average person going to the gym to better themselves.

Hes talking about sport specificity the bands are different than straight weight, that applies geared or raw
@BluegillGreg
@BluegillGreg Жыл бұрын
I've measured band strength by mounting them on the rack just above my lockout height, and hanging weight on the bands until the weight pulls the band downward a distance equal to how much the bar pushes the band upward. Whatever weight moves the band this distance is the amount of "weight" the band is adding at lockout.

Jimmy Kolb is an unlimited equipped lifter that won’t benefit from accommodating resistance as much as raw or lighter gear lifters. He doesn’t need to train velocity or speed due to the type of help he gets from the gear.

Respect to Jimmy on his thoughts on bands...I agree about the straight weight training I think people might use bands too much but that dose not mean there's not a place for it Fred Hartfield CAT compensatory acceleration they did a study on division 1 football players the group that did CAT almost doubled there power on bench press

I mean a lot of people use bands to get over sticking points or weaknesses, even plateaus, or even as a good way to reprogram power and speed but so can taking some weight off the bar and practicing that movement in a more explosive manner, with as much tension as possible.

I believe high affordance athletes forget that they are high affordance athletes. Ronnie Coleman was always going to be huge, Usain Bolt was always going to be fast, Randy Moss was always going to be in the NFL. Due to the heighten nature of their performance, an efficiency has to occur that can almost be viewed as reductionist.

@dradeel

It's a good point. By asking the very best, you might not get the correct answer, because the best are naturally also the most genetically gifted and that might allow them the liberty of not having to figure out how to do things the right way. For them the most important variables are simply habit and hard work. These are very important for all, but they aren't technicalities of training methodology. It would ironically be better to ask the ones that have struggled really hard to make any progress, because their genetics suck so much they had to figure out what objectively works the best for human physiology in order to overcome their short comings.

It depends on what your weakness is. If you have weak shoulders ( failing in midrange) incline and ohp will work. If you have weak tricep, close grip will work, etc.

This guy's an equipped lifter so dips and incline probably don't help out cuz it's not specific enough, but for raw lifters those movements 100% affect ur bench. Dips especially.

Am I gonna take the advice of a 1 of 1 athlete who only trains himself or the guy trains thousands and isn’t a genetic anomaly? I think the answer is quite clear. A word of warning to all lifters - if a guy is seemingly a freak, don’t take his advice. They’re the exception, not the rule.

Title should be 'Most over-rated exercises that do not work for me personally' - KZbin is full of best/worst exercises, even AthleanX does it - What doesn't work for one person works fine for another - I can't do DB or Military shoulder presses because of a rotator cuff issue but I can do Arnold presses, same goes for incline bench, wrecks my shoulder so I have to do a seated incline machine press instead - All exercises are good unless done with bad form that could lead to injury - infinitely better than sitting in a chair getting fat and growing cheese on your c0ck

Chains an bands have there place i use them every other week with as much weight as possible on the bar i shoot for an all out effort set of 6-8 reps . I dont use chains at certain points i use them from top of the bar to the floor . Works like magic when i go back to bar an weights alone . Speed out the hole is insane . To this day i have never found anything to get me faster out the hole . . I dont believe in training with light weights an then bands or chains added i believe the you have to make those sets hard just dont fuck your self up . But thats me . People find diffrent shit that works for them all the time .anything done properly can work for people as long as your not stupid an over do it . Hell i even put chains on the standing military press to . And the muscles got extremely sore the standing press chain couldve been stupid though . But damn if shooting for a top set of 6-8 with chains from top of bar to the floor wasnt magic . Just rotated every other week with them . Now my dumb ass is following somone elses templetes to see if theres progression . If i dont get a big pay off in 18 weeks ima go back to doing it my way
