The west didn't do enough? Please. Syria is surrounded by countries with armies of at least 5 million and ISIS is an army of around 50,000. But somehow the west didn't do enough. How many refugees has Saudi Arabia taken or for that matter how many troops have the Arab countries committed to defeating ISIS. This shouldn't even be an issue for Presidential candidates to address in debates.

What the hell does she think we could have done to stop what happened in Syria without boots on the ground? (I don't want boots on the ground by the way) I agree with everything you said, but there are two important points that you didn't say anything about. 1. ISIS wouldn't be a problem if we never went into Iraq in the first place. 2. We are currently trying to fight against both sides in a civil war which is not a smart thing to do.

+MrDrmillgram You do realise all this mess in Syria and with ISIS started with the invasion of Iraq which completely vanquished all stability there was in the region? With that in mind, the countries participating in it have a duty to do something. However, this issue can't be dealt with in the short-term, using only guns and bombs which just perpetuate the vicious circle of violence. An economic balance (in terms of countries' wealth) has to be achieved, this situation where the west controls most of the wealth is unsustainable. Poverty is the main cause of a lack of education (which is a big detriment to cultural progress and possible cultural understanding between the west and the Middle East) as well as of criminal activity, including terrorism.

The west has the wealth? Sorry placing the blame on the west doesn't work here either. Who is financing and constructing the (I've read) mostly empty, skyscraper laden, cities in Dubai etc. The arab countries one would assume. You are correct that it is sad that the tremendous oil revenue sucked from the west over many decades has not benefited the people of the region but instead their kings, princes,and dictators.

MrDrmillgram You actually make a good point I haven't considered as far as certain, oil-rich islamic countries go (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar etc.), but there are others which don't really posses large quantities of oil, (Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Afghanistan + Iraq whose instability disables it to economically exploit it, not to mention the (islamic) African countries and other Asian ones), all of which, to a bigger or lesser extent, are a breeding ground for terrorism. A proper global economic balance, not just with regard to islamic countries (the lack of which is one of the biggest underlying causes of terrorism), is a responsibility of the entire world, including the west whose inhabitants (and especially the political elite) can't just neglect the entire rest of the planet just because they were blessed to be born and live in stable societies and prosperous economies and don't really relate and sympathise with people from different cultures.

+TheHappyRider I'm going to copy/paste my original comments explaining that on the video that got deleted. They include things you may not know or things you may have forgotten. It's a lot to take in and I don't expect anybody to be willing to read it, which is part of my point, the TL:DR when accompanied by a pretentious 'know-it-all' attitude that disregards whatever is not important to them as "not information" (I don't claim you have it but I trust you've at least seen it. There's evidence of it in this very video), in that a very frequent excuse is that if you don't know about it, it's 'not important'.  Imagine if you only went to college the same amount of time you watched the news... how long would it take for you to graduate?. Imagine you're going for a subfield in engineering, many clases require from 8 to 12 hour of work per week, you take 4 of them: thats 32 to 48 hours per week... 4 years later you're somewhat familiar and barely trustworthy regarding a tiny subfield of applied science, just enough physics to get by in your domain, which is one of many YET it's still a huge amount of knowledge. How much time do you spend watching news? 1, maybe 2 hours if there's something you care about? and then, how much of that do you think is actually catered to you, as all news is nowadays, mean +- sigma Reps, Dems, Libs, Auths, etcetera all stay somewhat confined in their echo chambers. Then reduce that to world news (remember, she's talking about the whole wide world now, she jumps to talk about Syrians) and then to the informational density and accuracy of said world news. given those time and value constraints, how long do you figure it would take you to know "pretty much everything" around the globe, in real time?

You can use and obey whatever parable or parallel you want to imagine, she's an award winning journalist so I'll hold her to that standard. I seem that proper. If that system you're talking about ever manifests itself undeniably and she turns out to be as impotent as a doorknob, maybe I'll hold her to the standard you propose.
