I also have spent a great deal of my life trying to come to grips with what seemed on the SURFACE to be a disconnect between faith and science. I now know that there is no such disconnect. Thanks in part to the writings of Thomas Aquinas. This quote encapsulates the idea pretty well, "Truths that can be demonstrated by reason never contradict the truths of faith. Likewise the truths of faith, which are discovered by revelation, are always in accord with the truths discovered by reason." This understanding of the overall concept of truth led to me reexamining the methodology I had been using to understand scripture. This is what I learned: The Catholic Church defines inspiration as Gods help to certain chosen persons first to understand, then to express in words, well and without error, what God wanted to communicate to us in sacred scripture. This definition is a rejection of the fundamentalist "dictation" theory of inspiration. The Church teaches that God took an event that was accessible to any observer and gave to one or more people a special insight into the meaning or significance of that event. So how can the scriptures be called the word of God, If God did not dictate to human beings each and every word? Well let me tell you. Saint Thomas Aquinas used the image of tools. He said that when any agent uses a tool, three things can be said. First there are two causes for the result produced. The person and the tool. Second the type of tool and the quality make a difference in the result. Third one must use any tool in accordance with what it is. With the scriptures then, we can say three things. First there are two causes, God and the human author. Second the humanity and culture of the author make a difference in the writing. Third since human beings are not mindless machines, God uses the free will and creativity of the human author. Therefore if God has used human beings as free, true human authors, in order to understand what God is teaching us in the Bible, we have to know what the human author was trying to teach. We must take The Bible literally whenever God intends for it to be taken literally. But it would be wrong to take literally something that God did not intend to be taken literally. This involves discovering what the human author intended to communicate, which is different than literalism. This process of discovery is called the historical critical method. So then what does the 'without error' part mean within this definition? The church teaching is that the books of scripture faithfully and without error teach that truth which God, for the sake of our salvation, wanted to express in the sacred scripture. According to Catholic teaching, it's not any truth of science, biology, history, etc. that the Bible teaches inerrantly. Rather only that truth which God wanted to express for the sake of our salvation. This is the true content of scripture, all the rest is packaging designed to make the text a book that will be read and handed down. This 'packaging', since it is not part of what God was trying to express to us, is subject to all the inherent ordinary human limitations of any other human writing. This use of the historical critical method allows me to see the deeper meaning in texts like the two stories of creation in Genesis, rather than try to figure out why the science is all wrong- or seems to be wrong anyways. So by integrating faith with science, history, etc. it began to make sense to me. And when I saw that, I realized that by following the churches guidance on this, I could remove many stumbling blocks to my faith. Which is why I am Catholic.

Everyone believe what you want to believe. As the U.S. Constitution states, everyone has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. If your religion makes you happy, then so be it. Also, according to the first amendment of the Constitution everyone has the freedom of religion. You can not make others believe in something they don't believe in. Personally, I'm an Atheist. But I don't try to spread my ideas and opress others that don't think the same as me.

Science doesn’t have all the answers. It’s the best method to verify facts. Science is not designed to and does not attempt to disprove god. It cannot test evidence that does not exist. One can believe what one wishes to believe but it’s on those who make claims to prove them.

Yeah, like it’s fine if you believe in god, but scientists work to prove, time and time again, their findings, and verify them with other scientists and journals internationally. Science isn’t a religion, it’s findings are verifiably true in most cases, but it is also always subject to change. If it’s wrong at some point, then it can change and adapt to new findings that are (again) proven multiple times over via the scientific method.

Not knowing something is not proof of a God. In religion, either you accept the claim in the bible, or you go to hell. Theist use fear of eternal damnation & ignorance as a tool to keep in line their flock of sheep. Theist do not want their unchanging beliefs questioned, it must be accepted by faith alone or you go to hell. And by the way, god loves you. Science... well... If your goal is to use science to prove that a supernatural anything can’t exist, you’ve already misunderstood science. Science can’t appeal to proving or disproving anything supernatural because we cannot distinguish between what is natural and currently a mystery and what’s actually supernatural. So whenever someone tries to conclude that something is supernatural or the product of something supernatural or outside our reality, they’re making an unscientific leap.

Proof that species are related? I'll tell you more! And you dont need fossils for that. We all use DNA. We all have very, very, very similar machinery running in every organism, to the point where we can transplant DNA from a jellyfish into an actual fish, and it will code for the exact same protein. We all have the same operating system, so doesnt that suggest common descent? On top of this, we have an organelle within eukaryotic cells known as Mitochondrion. Mitochondria have their own circular ring of DNA, reproduce entirely independantly of the cell they reside in, and have their own DNA-decoding machines known as ribosomes that look astonishingly similar to the 16s ribosome found within many, many bacteria. On top of this, the mitochondria is covered not in one membrane, but two. This has led us to the Endosymbiont Theory (Theories in science are the "why" to the "what" in science that are known as laws. Some popular theories include Gravity, and Germ Theory, the understanding that pathogens cause infection). The endosymbiont theory says that some time, waaaay back when our types of cells were just emerging, eukaryotes, they swallowed up a bacteria, and covered it in it's own membrane as it swallowed it, forming what is known as a vesicle around it. Except, thanks to a mutation, it didnt digest the bacteria, so it just lived in the eukaryotic cell. Now the bacteria could spend all it's time making energy, so much is spilled into the eukaryotes that swallowed it, forming a symbiotic relationship. We find the mitochondria in animals, plants, fungus, amoebas, and parameciums, all incredibly similar to one another. This seems to me to be incredible proof that suggests they are related. Sorry about the ramble, it's just that evolution is so much more fascinating and wondrous to me than spontaneous creation.

@@sapereaude6339 Yes species growth doesn't miraculous happen. It's when a community changes enough to be considered diffrent species, and those changes happen a lot although are often not discovered because the new species goes extinct or scientist don't find the species at all.

The area that the tree was located in was leveled in the fourth century and replaced with the church of the Holy Sepulcher. We do have the crown of thorns though, which mostly has been broken into pieces, though I believe most of it is houses at the Norte Dame Cathedral in Paris.

Most science that pertains to the origin of species is theoretical because it would be physically impossible to be otherwise, because we didn't exist long enough to witness the beginning of time obviously. Scientific theories are based upon facts observed. Much like math, evolutionary science wasn't just some thing a guy randomly thought up. It was close observation of animal physiology, and behavior. Comparing said physiology and behaviors with similar species. That is how we know modern species are related. With prehistoric species we look at their bones, their only mark left on the planet. Sadly because things tend to actually break down somehow after being exposed to the elements for millions of years and some potential fossils not being made of the right molecules to be able to be preserved as fossils, we can't confirm the existence of every single species that ever existed. But the ones we do have, and as we compare those bones to all other skeletal structures from past and present we are able to make logical connections between living creatures and those long extinct. And probably the worst nonsensical point in this video is the graph of new species. The rising of new species isn't something that can be easily measured. It's not like "Oh yeah for every 100000 10,000 new species will exist." That's not how it works. Each new specie will develop at a a slow pace. You underestimate the length that is 4 billion years. All of human existence is only 10,000 years (according to fossil evidence) and look what we managed to accomplish through sheer chance of being able to accidentally make fire. Everything such as the primordial soup had billions of years to develop and mutate. Just because we don't know exactly how it happened doesn't mean it happened. At least there is some fact to go on there. Most unlike the Bible. The Bible is a book. Written by humans. From nearly 2,000 years ago. Humans, the same species that created a story about a talking sea sponge who cooks hamburgers. I'm not denying the possibility some powerful entity created everything. But, a 2,000 year old book about the creation of the universe before people knew the earth was round isn't very credible to me. Now some things in the Bible may be based on truths. Like lightly based on truths. There probably a guy named Jesus. Was that guy able to turn water into wine which breaks all known laws of science with just a wave of the hand. That's just some Harry Potter stuff there and don't try to tell me otherwise. Evolution is based on facts and ideas from modern intelligent people. The Bible is based on exaggerated truths written in a time where most people couldn't even read.

And seeing that I wrote this a year ago my understanding has only grown ever more larger as I have undergone more college education on evolution. And I will admit the claims I make about the bible is very hasty and was written in poor manner. Comparing the bible to harry potter is a cheap shot and does not make for a good comparison. God has revealed Himself throughout history. Creation. The Prophets. The Law. And finally, He sent His Son to become a human, live a perfect life, die on the cross for the sins of humanity, and rise from the dead. What more proof do you need than that? Jesus fulfilled hundreds of extremely specific Old Testaments prophecies written about him before he was born. He performed numerous, undeniable miracles. In fact, his enemies couldn’t deny the miracles he performed in public because there were too many witnesses. The best they could do was claim he did this by the power of the devil. We live in 2020 because the Gregorian calendar is modeled after the life the Jesus. A.D. means “anno domini” which means “in the year of the Lord.” There is much more we can say but for me, I believe because I know Him. I have believed and received and I have a relationship with God.

Basically... god is beyond our control or reality... science can only explain the shit we can see around us... god said within the bible in very different words because of the times but... he explains you should not trust man... don't trust their word if they come with all the answers. That by eating the fruit of good and evil... they will gain knowledge that would make them gods... the world is repeating, what is science truly about? Gaining knowledge that would make us gods basically. Gaining an understanding of the universe which is impossible but many don't see the damn fact will basically make us into gods. Another quote from the bible... "The devil can take the form of an angel of light" like he was... What the hell is science offering to bring us? What do scientists tell us? "Science will bring light to our existence"... basically science and the devil comes in the form of god but science try to explain god away bringing us far away from God and his love and God made a place for those who don't want to see his light, bet you can guess what that place is though. Science = A way to light. the slanderer/devil = A sinful angel of light. That was his job in heaven... Also, the devil was said to be an angel of music as well... he was a light bearer and a musician for god who wanted to be god. What's so frequent and clear in the music industry to where even those who clearly do those things feel the need to tell? Satanism is frequent and you sell your soul in the music industry... The bible warns that the devil wants to take all the souls of man down with him. Of course... misconception, souls aren't glowing orbs in biblical terms truthfully... it's our bodies, you sell your body away, not sexually, possibly sexually since homosexuality is against god as well but... you sell your body away symbolically... you can't make music, you must go onto the big boys rules and it's said to be strict as heck!

There are aspects of evolution that are undeniable (survival of the fittest, how organisms and animals adapt to their environment, etc.). However, there are aspects that are theory such as Abiogenesis (evolution of living organisms from inorganic or inanimate substances), or how the original theory has been expanded to try to claim the entire chain from the primordial soup to man.

When I read the whole bible, I discover to my horror that God was a monster. But realize that no, he's so much like a human: insecure, fallible, easy to anger, slow to forget (unless innocent blood is spilled of lambs & eventually Jesus to magically cleanse us with magic blood), & can hold a grudge for a very long time. That's when I realized God is a human construct. I stopped believing in him, & not believing in a God doesn't make me anyway special. Just like it doesn't make me special that I don't believe int he Easter Bunny or Santa Claus. If there is a God or not, I don't know. Personally, as a Christian, I don't belive that we all evolved from a single celled organism, however, I do belive there was some sort of evolition to humans we see today

Well ya it’s called adaptation we adapt to our environment such has lighter skin colder climates darker skin hotter climates that is a for of evolution and why many are so confused about if evolution is true or not it is and it isn’t. Different forms of evolution can be tested and proven but from one species to another cannot

There are aspects of evolution that are undeniable (survival of the fittest, how organisms and animals adapt to their environment, etc.). However, there are aspects that are theory such as Abiogenesis (evolution of living organisms from inorganic or inanimate substances), or how the original theory has been expanded to try to claim the entire chain from the primordial soup to man.
