rockfan 1998 how has it’s “ prohibition ruined lives”? People have hybridized the heck out of this plant and made it sooo strong. The only benefit from it comes from salves, and juicing the entire plant with leaves. But people desire to be high. That’s the difference- medicine vs escaping. The original plant was used in poultices and so on. But what we see in the dispensary is hyped up weed that alters ones state, ones spirit. There’s no medicine in getting High. Thank you.

@rockfan 1998 Who cares what? That I am no longer continuing in sin and been saved, set free, and forgiven? Everyone that matters cares- including The Father, Jesus Christ, and The Holy Spirit. Also my family, other Christians, and all the angels in Heaven. For a completely different reason Satan and the demons care because that means they can't hold that over my head anymore. The prohibition isn't what is ruining lives, sin is.

Before i was a Christian all my friends sold weed and I would smoke about $70 worth a day. It was almost the only thing I cared abt in my life. I have been free from it for times and then I fall back in times of struggle when I havnt been reading the Bible as much or struggling in other aspects of my Christian walk. Any time I mess up and get high, it feels like I cannot repent, like God isn’t there and like I am helpless and I see the world in a terrifying perspective. As soon as I smoke I feel how bad it is for me and have these revelations and feel like I will never do it again. As soon as I sober up it’s like I am numb to anything spiritual. I forget all the thoughts of regret and Godlessness while I was high and I lose motivation to go to God. It effects me the following days, blinding me to any spiritual discernment and making me cave to smoking again or other temptations 100x easier. I hate it more than anything and it is my most destructive idol. But the worldy parts of me love it more than anything. I am a musician and it always helps a lot with my music that’s another added temptation. Please pray for me that I can become free from weed for good. I believe weed has spiritual aspects to it and these effects are coming from evil spiritual things and yet it is still one of the things I am most tempted by.

But your story has inspired me and reminded me that I don’t want to feel disconnected from God and have that numbing feeling I’ve had before in my life. Well, I've been smoking it for years and at the time I really needed it. I didn't want "the white mans drugs" made in some laboratory, so I figured Cannibus was the way to go. Now however, in trying to deepen my relationship with the Lord and having more of a conviction about it, I'm asking the Lord for deliverance! This is the biggest test I've ever had because this is either going to be real or it's not. I mean, I *like doing it!* so how will God take away the very desire?...I guess time will tell. Usually people are ready to give something up. I'm not but know that I need too. Big difference. Please pray for me ;)

only through the power of the Holy Spirit will you be able to overcome addiction or any repeated sin. pray constantly and study God's word daily. even try fasting, it really helps in spiritual warfare issues.

@@blublu2888 i think it is sinful based on my convictions, the bible doesn't specifically mention weed but that doesn't make it a good thing for everyone, i can understand medical use. but using it just to get high takes away your responsibilities and cares, gives you a false perception of reality as well as the realities of God. also just brought out the worst in me, i was a prideful self absorbed fool in the time of my weed addiction

I currently have a prescription for medical marijuana. I was using it for two months before I decided to stop. First of all, it's nothing at all like being drunk. Being drunk removes your inhibitions and makes you say and do things that you never would while you were sober. It even makes you think things are okay that you would not think are okay while sober. Being drunk actually changes who you are. At least it did for me. Being high on marijuana is definitely not the same as being sober. I would never drive while using marijuana, but it does nothing at all for my inhibitions. I don't have trouble walking, talking or doing anything really. What it does do is change the way that I think and I actually found that it got me out of routine thoughts. It was like having a child's brain in the sense that old things seemed new in that I could think about them differently. I would listen to the Bible and passages would come alive for me because I would see things in them that I wouldn't normally because I was so used to them. In fact, the only reason why I stopped is that I was worried that it would hurt my testimony if I continued. I felt very connected with God while I was using it. But there is a verse that says if you believe something is wrong and you do it anyway, to you it is sin. I never felt that it was wrong, but I wasn't sure it was right. So I stopped. I also was worried that I would come to depend on it to have a relationship with God. I'm fully convinced that this falls into the freedom and wisdom of the believer. I can get by without it, but I know a lot of people who can't and I would never tell them they have to stop using it.

Your comment represents my thoughts, feelings and actions very similarly. It’s an issue of testimony. I read Doug Wilson’s book, and it focused on the majority of people that are irresponsible with marijuana, while focusing on the minority of people that are responsible with alcohol. It could easily be the other way around, and write a book about how bad alcohol is because 90% of the people overdo it, wow there is a minority of marijuana users that are responsible. Anyway, I think it’s no different then pain medicine, sleep medicine, or for that matter sugar, nicotine or caffeine. All things in moderation.

When the perfect world the Lord created there was no weed or poppy plants or anything like that. It came with the fall and the fallen angels showed mankind how to cut roots and use them. Being high does not bring you closer to the Lord. That is the deception of the mind. If you would read your bible you'll see where it says many times to be sober mind and to not be deceived. I pray that you will fully understand. Anything the world does 99.99% is not what Christ did. For Satan is the great deceiver and he deceives the whole world.

Understand what the Lord is saying there. Also, liquor, strong drink, messes with your mind.(health) Weed is a drug, poppy and others... the fallen Angel's showed mankind how to cut root. Just like the use of alcohol and other things, it really is the individual person's convictions that matter. Some people find that it helps with their anxiety, or physical pain, or illness. The bible does not say to not use those things, but if it's getting in the way of your faith, than stay away. Believers can have healthy boundaries with things like alcohol, weed, cigars, caffeine, etc. But everyone has their own personal convictions, and it really is between them and God. There always has to be a balance with anything in this life. I like taking CBD oil for my bad anxiety. It also has helped me during morning sickness. I am not against weed, but I am very cautious on it's use for myself and others around me. It can be abused, but that doesn't mean it always is.

@@worldmusictheory a) it's more likely that "sober" in context refers to drunkeness and not weed (yes, very different things and states of mind) and b) that doesn't mean it's a sin, there are some things the bible advises against without condemning it. so my original point stands

As someone who is a believer of the reformed faith and a cannabis patient I can tell you personally it’s a gift from god. I have a compromised nervous system due to head trauma from years of sports. I encourage you all to do extensive research on how cannabis helps treat tbi’s depression cte ptsd and auto immune diseases first before forming an opinion. I laugh when people complain about headaches. That being said just don’t turn it into your god

The bible tells us that everything God created is very good. This means that weed is very good. The problem is people who abuse and misuse it. Weed is not bad for your soul. Putting your trust and hope in anything or anyone other than Jesus Christ is bad for your soul.

I’m trying to quit. I see how it takes so much away from my relationship with God. But it also feels like I can’t live without it. There’s so many different elements of shame. Sitting in church thinking I’m a phony and a fraud. Thinking everyone around me would think I’m a piece of trash if they knew how often I turn to it for comfort. When I try to quit my thoughts are overwhelming. The reality of my word crashes over me and when I try to give those worries to God it feels empty. Weed can be a powerful addiction especially if you use it for years and years. If anyone reads this please just say a quick prayer for me

Praying for you brother! I got free by humbling myself before God in my room. I just got on my face and surrendered everything. 2 books by Andrew Murray ( humility and absolute surrender) really helped. God is faithful He will bring you through if you truly sincere in your heart. God bless you brother, praying for you!

Half (all) the church likely feels same about one thing or another they’re doing or not doing. The fact you’re at church speaks volumes. Rather than focusing on ‘addiction’ ask God what you’re avoiding (putting weed in it’s place). I.e.,-trauma etc. The fact you worry what others are thinking shows or could point towards ‘shame’. Otherwise you wouldn’t care what others think. Food for thought Brother. There’s is freedom in Christ and you are set free. There is now no condemnation for those in Christ. Believe.

I'd just like to add to the pro marijuana use community. I don't take it as a means of escape. I'm not gonna lie, the first time I took an edible, I was a vegetable, but the next day I was wide awake and well rested. It was Sunday school, in Sunday school I was attentive and competent. I could understand the content. I have extreme adhd, and it's hard for me to retain information. It's been beneficial for me. Also, I remember my doctor telling my parents I needed adderall or ritalin to function. Praise God they didn't go thru with it. Would've destroyed my ability to cope on my own. I agree that like anything. It's a tool to be used in moderation. If you have a certain brother or sister in christ who might be offended by it, don't throw your liberty to use marijuana in their face. Be private about it, so they don't stumble in their offense.

Think the church tends to look at it through the Lens of addiction versus the occasional recreational use in Moderation or medicinal purposes on the other hand I have used caffeine and have ended up with panic attacks and in the hospital

A lot of Christians sure seemed to be confused or lack knowledge on this subject. I give this pastor a thumbs up for his partial open mindedness, gentle delivery and compassion for the pain sufferer he refers to. A couple of points in rebuttle - the Caffeine comparison falls short - sure it alerts a person for a while (not necessarily to "reality") but has the downside of exhausting the brain through forcing it to use adrenaline/noradrenaline. This is part of the reason people get exhausted after the high from an energy drink goes away. Cannabis is not destructive to the brain - this is a proven and scientific fact -the US dept of health and human services have even patented the healing and neuroprotective properties of it. It doesn't even have to be used psychoactively - THCa is only converted to THC through heat and isn't psychoactive. Furthermore - the arguments from Body/Temple this man makes can also be used for the basic elements of the destructive Western Diet that is making people very sick, obese...and dare I say - inattentive to God if by solely through Gluttony or being too tired.

ive been sober from weed about a year n half now. it was a lil hard for me to stop because i was smoking every day n night when i come home from work. i use to blow through almost an ounce a week. not alot because i work 40 hrs a week but it was still hurtin my pockets when all i smoked was high grade bud. but as i kept drawing back closer to Christ i kept feeling more n more convicted in my heart and in my head. i kept trying to block out n ignore it but i couldn't. my conscience would eat me up n i couldn't even enjoy my high if i wanted to. one day i just stopped n said this is my last time smoking. haven't smoke since then and i praise God for the holy spirit working in me and convicting me. i realize that i just smoked because i enjoyed it and it pleased me but was not pleasing God. Now i hate it...i hate the smell i hate everything about it. same thing with drinking. if its not pleasing or glorifying God then i dont want nothing to do with it. and this is for the believers who are truly born again that im talking to thay struggle with this. unbelievers dont see it as a bad thing or a sin to be fighting with of course because they are not Born again. the bible say multiple times to be sober minded. any one can argue back all day about the word sober or whatever but weed is mind altering.

Wow, it works just the opposite for me. My sometimes anxious flesh relaxes and the Holy Spirit flows right through me effortlessly. I share my faith with ease. Now, of course I do this most of the time sober (there is a time and a place for that) But if the unbeliever I know happens to smoke, I'll join them and I feel myself being used to be able to reach them with God's word. Bible out and everything lol It's great. Nobody's hostile, or defensive, their just listening and really receptive to take it in because it's talking to their spirit. It's truly amazing!

As a drunk driver survivor, I ended up on pain pills after each surgery. 4 spinal fusions later, the pain was really intense for a long period of time. Getting off them was almost impossible and if not for weed, I may have been permanently addicted to them. I thank God that I'm not taking that man made junk any longer ...🙏

I am sorry about your wreck. Weed is more deceptive in that it steals your personhood in ways less obvious at certain perspectives, but it messes your mind up worse than opiates. Opiates are more of an addiction, that kill, steal, and destroy. But weed is more deceptive in its schemes, for many just as bad personally than the opiate addiction.

I'm an ex weed addict and God freed me from it I would smoke every second of my life if I could have. its very addictive ... every one of my old friends are still chasing weed everyday ...I call them weed tweekers. .. they can't do anything without it and they freak out when the bag gets low... Geez I would pay for weed before paying bills and wouldn't leave unless I had weed or was getting weed. That's addiction. not fun chasing it and realizing u can't get high anymore because your so dull from it :( sober 5 yrs coming up.

+Nich Gorman church reading going to a midweek study and fellowship is the way to be healed. I promise. u have a heart that wants to stop if u are listening to videos.healing comes by the washing of his word. while o was high and drunk I used to listen to kwave.com and go to church and studies drunk and high and eventually he healed me. That's the cure. if someone has the cure to cancer and offered me it if I were sick with it I would definitely listen ... I know u can do this through God ... Don't give up do these steps.

As a teen and young adult, before knowing God's truth found in Christ, I smoked weed at least 3 times a day. Sometimes I would smoke 5-7 times a day. Marijuana lead me to other drugs and I even had demonic visitations because of my drug use. As soon as I came to Christ, wholeheartedly, my desires to use mind altering drugs were stripped off of me. I knew that smoking weed and drinking were contrary to what God desired for me and the Lord gave me the grace to put those practices of the flesh behind me. Biblically, smoking weed or anything else that alters the mind is clearly labeled as "sorcery". In New Testament Greek, “sorcery” is pharmakeia, which is the source of our English word pharmacy. Sorcery is never a good thing in the Bible. “Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife . . . and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Galatians 5:19-21). Sorcery will be practiced in the end times. Spiritual Babylon, representing the false religious system of the last days, will deceive “all nations” with sorcery (Revelation 18:23) before judgment falls. The book of Revelation says that sorcerers “will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8; see also Revelation 22:15).

A very slight usage changes all that. Do my work, read bible even more, play with kids. But must be kept at a minimal

i’ve been addicted to pot before and during my years of depression and new age practices. however, when i came back to my faith i actually had hold of lsd for the first time in my life and the day right before i repented and asked for Jesus/Yashua to change my heart and deliver me, i had a terrible trip. it wasnt the reason for my repentance, i just felt a calling from the Lord that i needed to answer and i felt the pain he felt about everyone being led astray at such an accelerating pace in this time. about a week before this point i was a complete believer in God Almighty but i hadnt asked for forgiveness until that day when i felt overwhelming guilt and sorrow for my sin, doubt in Him and rejection of Him that ive held for years when i was blessed enough to be raised in a household that taught me about our true God since childhood. i threw out the rest of the lsd i had not because of the bad trip, i still wanted to take it but i just felt like it was unnecessary and as an unnatural hallucinogenic drug it didnt feel right to continue using it. (esp after i found out about the mk ultra project months before this) i continued with weed occasionally though. i overcame my addiction and simply no longer had a craving for it all the time as if i felt dependent on it to enhance my mood or help me heal emotionally. i continued to use only it every now and then but i whenever i took it i would never stop thinking about God and it allowed me to admire Him, His beautiful creation, and His salvation for me even more whenever i took it. id never overdo it like i used to, just enough to appreciate the effects and enjoy a good day. i’m not sure that it’s a sin in itself since it is a herb but maybe it would be better to simply ingest marijuana and not smoke it since our lungs aren’t meant to take in unnatural gases. sin ultimately separates us from the Lord which is why He hates it. i believe it may be okay to use it as long as you’re not abusing it or trying to smoke yourself out just like we aren’t meant to abuse medicine or take more than our recommended dosage because it’s ultimately just being used for the sake of bettering our health. now it’s rarely crossed my mind to use it, also bc my medical recommendation is expired lol but i don’t care enough to go out of my way to buy more or renew my recommendation. i wouldn’t pass up the chance but if i did have the option it would be to ingest it instead of inhalation. i wonder what thoughts others may have on this because i never see anything about edibles vs smoking

I'm not a novice. I've smoked weed for years and I don't anymore. But I will say from experience, that I couldn't remember where anything was... But I could smoke and go run 3-5 miles a day... I choose not to smoke and I feel amazing, no longer spitting up tar from all of those blunts... I would get alone with God and if convicts you of it then leave it alone... Everything is permissible, but not everything is helpful. That said, it sounds like cannabis is helpful for you. Don't quit taking it then! I know smoking the plant has helped me and my wife. The Creator designed His creations to be helpful! Christians are confused on this subject because many of them seem to have their perception of God somehow tied in with their perception of government authority. Thing is the gov't has lied to us about this issue and has acted more anti-christ than anything else. Search through the Scriptures, do some research on original wording, and you'll find references to MANY psychoactive and psychedelic plants. Mandrakes, calamus, kanesh-bosom (aka weed!), frankincense, wormwood, various STRONG incenses, etc. Congratulations on the journey our Master has taken you on so far. My son is 26 years old, a Christian, diagnosed with ADD, mild autism and mild schizotypal personality disorder. He is an amazingly musically talented individual but he suffers great inner torment. Since childhood, he had taken Ritalin daily and this has taken a heavy toll on him physically. Along the way, he self-medicated with alcohol to offset the bad effects of the Ritalin. He lives with us and his suffering was on daily display. Three months ago, he received a licence and prescription for marijuana to treat his symptoms of anxiety, depression, paranoia, lack of appetite. All I can say is that the change in him is dramatic. God created this herb. Medicines come from herbs. I believe that the key to answering your question lies in the intent when using this substance. It is no different from any other medication or substance such as alcohol. From my understanding of scripture, to have a glass of wine with dinner is not wrong. To drink wine so that i can forget all my troubles would be wrong. Simplistic, i know. The same would apply to marijuana. If it helps with controlling physical symptoms of an illness or mental condition it is ok. If it is being taken to escape reality-not ok. A major consideration, however, has to be whether you possess it legally or illegally. Using it for legitimate reasons would be very wrong if you are going about it in an unlawful way. I have been a Christian for many years, I grew up strict baptist, and it always amazes me the number of friends and family that will take whatever is proscribed them by a doctor (morphine and such) and completely oppose marijuana. If used properly without excess, I have no problem with natural alternatives to prescription drugs. Yes, anything in excess can be evil. If you drink three gallons of water a day while those around you suffer from dehydration, that is a sin. It's all about balance, and knowing oneself. If you have to have it, and can't cope without, you have a bigger problem and I hope and pray you can find the help needed. Now, that being said, I'm not a big fan of the special fertilizers and growing techniques to make "medical grade marijuana".

Yes! Thank you! I am struggling to get this across to my family! Believers can justify taking harmful medications, drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, etc. But weed is harmful and bad no matter what the circumstances may be. I think for people who have never done it or don't know much about it, they don't realize that there are different ways to take it and different strains that have different effects. I had severe anxiety that was causing me a lot of physical illness and smoking weed from time to time and taking CBD was one of the only things that helped calm my body down. I was still fully aware of the world and what was going on in it.

As a Christian, I appreciate that you addressed this question. However, in my personal experience (as for many) it does have a strong, positive cognitive effect. My sleep quality is now completely stabilized, for example along with my appetite for nutritious food. It is definitely not a “downer” for me. Additionally, there is no noticeable “comedown” or “crash” as experienced with having too much caffeine, for example. My job requires constant personal interaction with great attention to detail and working memory. I believe that most Americans, (especially evangelical Christians) do not understand the potential benefits due to a long history of negative propaganda that is deeply ingrained into our collective psyche. Our core beliefs are often subconscious and our need to be “right” is more deeply tied to our egos than anything. I do agree that it’s not for everyone for a variety of reasons, the most important of which are one’s core beliefs about what it actually is in the first place. The insights I’ve gained along with the vast improvement in my life regarding habits, relationships, especially empathy towards others is a true blessing. There are many nuances to this topic, that is why I strongly feel that it is a calling to work with this unique plant. I respect each person’s assumptions because I used to have the same opinions as many, for example, labeling it categorically as a sin. I’d also like to mention that I memorized the longest chapter of the Bible, Psalm 119, and encourage others to commit to memory passages of Scripture. I try not to put cannabis onto a pedestal, recognizing that only God is to be worshipped, and not His creation. In summary, it’s a very unique tool that can provide benefit.

I used to be so addicted to weed. Skunk and then I switched to high grade but God kept convicting me. I loved God but I also loved/needed weed, it was an idol. I used to think I had an addictive personality but it was a lie from the devil. Satan wants to use anything He can to stop you from fully putting all your eggs in Gods basket. God wants all of you. Jesus is the living water and when you drink from Him you will no longer thirst. It was a battle for a long time. It’s a supernatural thing. My boyfriend who has PTSD thinks it’s okay to smoke and he listens to musicians who say they’re Christ followers and smoke which then reconfirms his belief. God already said that unless you search for the truth you may be deceived and God himself will blind your eyes and let you be deceived. That’s a scary thought. Please pray on it brothers and sisters. OCD has a near zero response to placebo and pharma is extremely dangerous with side effects including increased risk of suicide. Problem for me is, if I don't use it I can't eat. The last time I quit I went from 5'10 180lb athlete, to a 145lb rail. And that only took a month.. It's a tough subject that I think each Christian needs to search their heart on. I think Romans 14:22 can be referenced here … to keep your faith between you and God. For some, it might not be a sin to use marijuana while for others it is a stumbling block. I look at alcohol the same way. Now if a Pastor is encouraging you to light up, be afraid, but if you're someone who uses pot responsibly and keeps it to themselves, I'm not going to judge you. On the other hand, people like you and I have a good experience with it because it amplifies our faith, and the hope of salvation for which we long. small doses of marijuana in moderation can indeed tune you in more deeply to reality. Large doses and overuse are what fog reality. It's not just a black and white issue. Long ago, my sister gave me a bumper sticker that read "God made pot, man made beer. Who do you trust?" In my own life, marijuana has been absolutely empowering, and it has enhanced my competency in many aspects, from my career to my relationships to my cognitive abilities. If I notice that I've started using too much, thus losing the benefits and entering the fog, it's super easy to cut back because although it is habit forming like anything else, it is absolutely not physically addictive like alcohol is, or hard drugs such as heroin and cocaine. Unfortunately, the last 80 or so years of prohibition have created a culture around pot which is based in rebellion, thus encouraging using it for the wrong reasons, and using it to the maximum excess. It was not always like that. George Washington smoked pot!! They probably used medicinal marijuana ointments in Jesus' time. It's a beautiful plant that should be treasured, and hemp (the fibers of the stalks, which is not smoked) can be used as a sustainable source of paper, fabric, plastic, fuel, and countless other needs.
