It’s nice to see a nice clean comedian who’s loves Jesus, and I like how true he is about cursing. It’s so sad that cursing is natural, well, just like any other sin. I know we’re all guilty of it, but there’s a big difference between it slipping out and saying it just because.

The middle finger comes from archer days. To pull back the bow requires mid. finger and ring finger and thumb. They would cut off the archer mid. finger and would walk by, mocking them by raising theirs. Like "look what I got". It was an insult, not a curse word.The sixties, supposedly, is where it started to mean beep-blank. Originally, it was an insult for sure.

The middle finger came from English Archers. When an archer was captured and they knew he was an archer they cut off his middle finger so he could no longer shoot his bow. So if an archer was ever undiscovered and or set free they showed the middle finger as an act of defiance that they were an archer and could still kill you.

No, it is not correct according to Snopes "Despite the lack of motion pictures and television way back in the 15th century, the details of medieval battles such as the one at Agincourt in 1415 did not go unrecorded. Battles were observed and chronicled by heralds who were present at the scene and recorded what they saw, judged who won, and fixed names for the battles. These heralds were not part of the participating armies, but were, as military expert John Keegan describes, members of an "international corporation of experts who regulated civilized warfare." Several heralds, both French and English, were present at the battle of Agincourt, and not one of them (or any later chroniclers of Agincourt) mentioned anything about the French having cut off the fingers of captured English bowman."

If you go to a "church" that doesn't say "damn" or "damned" from behind the pulpit, then perhaps the good news is not be predicated upon the bad news. Kids don't obey their biological (or step) parents and are really upset when their lied too, they still have trust left. Kids are curious and full of wonder (which doesn't have to go away) so stories really intrigue them. Birds have hollow bones and feathers which helps them fly. That's real. Then we get to be teenagers don't obey the always right watching you all the time whether you see them or not who say it's for your safety... And then the representatives make claims on behalf of an invisible man who happens to be the most prevalent god in that state, territory or country. The ones that do know how the system works (which is good) and figure it out (or bend). Imagine the popularity of sun gods if we were aware of matter and stardust when it was popular. By the time we're adults we so much information and we've started a life we're the main focus in. Misinformation or tested/peer reviewed researched information and we can get involved in either. We can build a house, become a scientist, watch comedians/anime/news, we can be the people involved in that. As a species we could blow up the planet, maybe we'll terraform a new one (or many). There may be a god that became like us but was hydrogen in the beginning (although the consciousness involved is astronomically unlikely) making first steps like terraforming which literally means earth shaping. Don't feel shit because you aren't someone else. I'm more on the Futurama type deal. That's one of the few cartoons without an all powerful god(I'm an atheist). Professor Farnsworth witnessed evolution he put in motion but he also saw multiple exact same universes die out and be reborn in 2 big bangs. Did you know a star explodes which results in the beginning of a new galaxy every 100 years? But because there are so many stars a astronomy expert can see three per night.

@@dawson0610In Mark 7:19, Jesus declared all foods clean, because what we eat doesn’t go into our hearts, it goes into our stomach and out of the body.
@dawson0610
@dawson0610 10 күн бұрын
@@nealtherealdeal9618 Jesus is using the Old Testament as the standard against man made traditions. So it is very clear that Jesus is not doing away with any Old Testament teachings about eating pork or not. He would not defend the Old Testament and condemn man-made traditions and then turn around and do away with the commands in Leviticus 11 all the same breath. That would not make sense. The context in both Jesus’ and the pharisees’ minds is ceremonial washing and not pork. Jesus explains that it is not what goes in and out of our bodies that make us clean or unclean, but what comes out of the heart. Jesus finishes by saying, Food doesn’t go into your heart, but only passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer.” (By saying this, he declared that every kind of food is acceptable in God’s eyes.) Mark 7:19 NLT Now in the KJV Mark 7:9 ends with “purging all meats” While the NLT says “every kind of food.” The NLT is actually more accurate here. The word that the KJV used for meat is the Greek word, “bromata.” Bromata simply means food. It does not necessarily mean flesh. So the NLT is right. Jesus said the food that will come out of your body is clean, whether or not you did the traditional washing of hands. Clean or unclean flesh is clearly not the issue here. Jesus would not exalt the Old Testament over the traditions of man and then turn around and do away with what the Old Testament taught. He is doing away with the traditions of man. “Bromata” simply means food, not flesh, of any kind though it could include flesh. So Jesus declared all foods clean, regardless of the ceremonial washing. When the NLT says every food is acceptable in God’s eyes it is absolutely accurate. Pork was never considered food in this context, either by Jesus or the pharisees. We have to keep things in context. When you tell your kids there is no school today so you can do whatever you want, it goes without saying that they still can’t go rob a bank. When you said “anything,” the context was automatically understood. Likewise when it says “thus purging all meats” in the KJV or “declared that every kind of food is acceptable in God’s eyes,” the context is automatically understood that the food is clean whether or not one did the ceremonial washing. The Ceremonial washing does not make the food clean or unclean. The context in this story has nothing to do with pork or other unclean flesh being made clean. Matthew makes the context even more clear: For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander.These are what defile you. Eating with unwashed hands will never defile you.” Matthew 15:20 NLT Matthew 15:19-20 makes it clear that in Mark 7:19 Jesus is talking about washing with unclean hands and not unclean meats. Unclean meats were not the issue to any of the parties participating in the discussion in Mark 7 and Matthew 15. If Jesus had declared pork clean in Mark 7 then I would really be confused why later, in Acts 10, Peter was still following the regulations in Leviticus 11. And even then, Peter makes the context of the vision of Acts 10 clear in Acts 10:28 NLT “But God has shown me that I should no longer think of anyone as impure or unclean.” Peter tells us the context of the vision was about Jews and Gentiles and not clean and unclean meats. Also, in 1 Corinthians 8, when Paul is saying you can eat whatever you want, 1 Corinthians 8:1 makes food sacrificed to idols the clear context. Eating pork or other unclean flesh never crossed Paul’s mind while he was speaking or writing.

That is true, and it even relates it to servitude in the scripture. It is a question of whether I want to be selfish, and serve myself, and my personal desires, or if I choose to try lay myself down, and serve others before myself. I believe, what I as a Christian am called to do, is to Accept, Love, and Serve, God, my community, and fellow Christians. So, yes, I do lay down my own desires, that I may have at times, and place those callings first.

Also, for those who asked why one word was worse than another: One word can describe it in a baser manner than the other and it seems to be about perspective too. Also, I want to add that when I got saved, Jesus helped me clean up my language pretty quick and when I was moving a couch and tore my big toe nail off, I did not curse. Later, when I wrecked my motorcycle, I was able to call out on the name of God to help me and I'm so glad a curse word is not what popped into my mind first.

@ 3:26 he mentions that we "made up" the middle finger curse. I was told that it came from when captors of Native Americans had them as P.O.W.'s they would cut off their middle fingers, rendering their use of bow and arrows much less effective. As a form of mockery the Native American's captors would walk by where they were being imprisoned and flip them their middle finger to very sadistically torment them. I don't know if this story i heard was true but i always found it a very interesting possible origin of the middle finger curse.

The answers that you're looking for are all there in the Bible. And you said most Christians don't question, I've been serving Him for 10 years now and I question all the time. Especially these days. They are going to face horror and hardship in this world. I think they need to begin to understand the bible very early.
@seanarmstrong1156
@seanarmstrong1156 9 жыл бұрын
P. Smith I would think the best way to teach someone about suffering and hardship in life is to tell them to work hard and deal with the problems HEAD-ON. I don't see how teaching them about a myth which may or may not be true is helping. You're just giving them an emotional blanket to hide from the truth. I prefer to teach kids to deal with their problems directly, rather than give them a placebo and say "oh don't worry, there is a magical daddy looking out for you!" When life gets you down, you deal with it and GET BACK UP. MAN-UP.
@todyefor7318
@todyefor7318 9 жыл бұрын
Sean Armstrong I understand your point, from your point of view. But even as a non-believer, you read bedtime stories to your children, and they see shows like the little mermaid, maleficent, beauty and the beast, the princess and the frog, not to mention all the Grims bros fairy tales. So I put the question to you, what is the difference, for you; (obviously for me it does mean something), but, what's the difference between reading the "fairy tale" bible and reading Grims Bros? Someting the Bible says, that a lot of non-believers either don't know about or choose to ignore is a passage that talks about us, as followers of Jesus, having a very hard time in life and being persecuted unfairly. So anyone who trys to tell you that christians hide behind God the Father, is full of crap. We know what we are in for. The only difference is, our reasoning for getting back up, and climbing back out of the hole that life dumps us in sometimes, is knowing that eventually, everything will be fine in the end. And one thing that a true Christian, (and there are a lot of icky people soiling that name), and a non-believer can agree on is, if there is actually no God, then death is really the end and it won't matter. Personally I would rather live my life seeking Jesus, and then die and find that he is not real, than to live life serving myself, only to die and end up face to face, andswering to Him. In the words of Westley, from The princess Bride, "life is pain".
@seanarmstrong1156
@seanarmstrong1156 9 жыл бұрын
P. Smith I totally understand. I am from a Christian family and I was raised as a Christian. The biggest problem I see from many Christians is they end up getting lazy and not taking actions to solve their own problem. For example - last month, a Christian friend of mine had trouble finding a job. He told me "oh I've been praying to God so hard but there is no job offer!" And I asked him "well, instead of praying, how many job applications did you actually send out?" And he said "two". And i was like "well, maybe instead of praying, you should probably spend more time sending out those job applications!" I'm sure that if God is real, he would want us to take actions with our own life. Simply laying on the couch, praying to God for magical help isn't going to solve anything. Problems in life get solved by tackling it, not by praying about it. (not saying you shouldn't pray at all...but life is about balance...if u get my point)

He's Tom Roades bad. This guy sucks on a level I've never seen. Jim Gaffigan is a Christian and he's hilarious so it's not a slam against Christians. Marcus Sowinski It depends on whether or not you define being a Christian as "being a follower of Christ". The Roman Catholic church teaches that you have to 'work' (by doing things they claimed the Bible says you must do) to 'earn' being saved from death. Bath then, they could get away with doing that because the general public had no access to the Bible. In contrast, the Bible teaches that eternal life is a free gift to those who believe that Christ is the son of God and that He volunteered to die as us (to save us from the death sentence we've all earned), and that He was resurrected. So, to some people, Christianity is anything that carries the label "Christian" (it sounds like you fall into that category). There are also "Biblical Christians", i.e. Christians who believe that 'following Christ' means paying attention to what Christ said and did, rather than "the traditions of men" - today we call that Religion - Jesus himself was against the 'religion' of His day (see Mark 7:8). BTW, the Protestants were protesting that the Roman Catholics were not following what the Bible said. This could only happen after the invention of the printing press, when lots of people could read the Bible for themselves. It's a bit like telling a population with no access to Shakespeare's works that Romeo & Juliet were famous explorers who invented scissors. The people would have no choice but to believe that, because they can't verify it for themselves.

First, I generally enjoy and appreciate Mr. Stine's work and I admire those who honor God and spread His word using the creative gifts. That being said, I disagree with this one particular principle. As Christians, we can't say that one action is bad because it says so in the bible and then ignore the other action that's also in the bible because we are still bound. That is how we discredit ourselves to the people we're trying to win. And it's OK to be imperfect. That's why Jesus gave his life; He knew we would fail being bound to the 'law of Moses.' But we shouldn't justify our particular weakness by saying, "Oh, I can curse because Jesus said vipers" or "I can get drunk because Jesus had wine." OK, well the next time someone cuts you off on the expressway, call them a viper. We can't say (about our sins), "I'm only human" and then tell the person who commits adultery or who is homosexual that they are sinning. If you are cursing, according to the bible, you are not in compliance just like the liar, the murderer, the thief, the greedy etc. That's why we have Christ, who makes us free, who asks to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, and who asks us to love him through our obedience. There are people who don't believe in God who choose not to curse because they've made a decision to represent themselves in a certain manner. There are atheists who enjoy sex but choose not to indulge at every urge. So if cursing is something that can be overcome of one's own will, surely it can be overcome with Christ since we are supposed to be "more than conquerors." What we say is nothing but the overflow of our hearts according to the bible. So actually "ouch" becomes enough when we've prayed enough for clean and pure hearts. It's no longer natural to curse. It's easier for people who don't believe to relate if we say, "I still struggle with cursing (lying, overeating, etc.)" than to say, "Jesus did it."
