Obviously, there is no punishment for Non-Belief. And I tell YOU now -- believe "me". . . or not, there is no hell for the Man-beast. One must CHOOSE to find, to love, and to serve God, without fear of hellfire, nor with expectation of reward. God forces no one. Free Will is a FACT. The evidence suggests that many never truly desire to find God, until they have been traumatized or hit rock-bottom. Fortunately, that is not a requirement, but it partially explains why so many already-broken people are believers. See A.A., N.A, . M. A. Anonymous.

Such people show admirable reasoning. *Truly, whoever can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.* If the God‐given understanding of your mind does not resist a demand to believe what is impossible, then you will not resist a demand to do wrong to that God‐given sense of justice in your heart. As soon as one faculty of your soul has been dominated, other faculties will follow as well. And from this derives all those crimes of religion which have overrun the world." -Voltaire

@SheepOfChrist818 Creating something and then demanding obedience is evil, my friend, not good. That's not how consent works. If you force something to exist, you owe that creature the best life possible, that creature does not owe you anything at all. You've been tricked by this dogma into thinking it works backwards than it actually does. If you had asked and begged to exist, then sure, then a creator could demand a price, but to do it in the reverse, creating first then demanding a price, is not an act of good, it's an act of evil. And I bet you know that. For example, if I tell you now that I've created this wonderful comment for you that you never asked for, you nevertheless owe me a debt for my time, do you feel obligated to pay me? If not, then you already know the deal being offered by god is not how honest transactions work.

@SheepOfChrist818: "So actions having consequences is bullying and fear?" I don't think it's being claimed that whenever actions have negative consequences it's wrong. I don't think it's right for there to be negative consequences (and especially extremely serious ones like death or burning) for not worshipping someone.
@jamesc3505 Жыл бұрын
@SheepOfChrist818: "Define worship. Worship is not just singing and dancing, it is being obedient, recognizing him as authority over your life, and putting your trust in him." If you like. "God created us for himself. God doesn't need us, he created us to have a relationship with him, God is a personal and relational God." If you have children, though, so they can have a relationship with you, be obedient to you, recognise you as authority over their life, and put their trust in you, but they later decide they want to live their own life instead, as long as they aren't harming anyone, I don't think it would be right for you to kill or burn them. "He is the objective good, so we are obedient for the good of ourselves and those around us." I don't think being killed or burnt for not worshipping is for our own good. "If everyone kept the commandments perfectly, there would be no war, slavery, or problems." Maybe no war or slavery, since I think Yahweh generally only endorsed war against, and slavery of, people who don't worship him (or, at least, there were restrictions on slavery if they worship him?). Off the top of my head, though, I think commanding Abraham to kill Isaac, even though he called it off at the last moment, could have been a fearful situation for Isaac, and I think he allowed Job to suffer. Actually, I suspect the stuff about Job in in the Bible is to warn believers that no matter how much they suffer, they should never question Yahweh, which suggests to me there would still be problems. Moreover, some people just don't like being subjugated. I think it's probably fair to say that people in the Soviet Union who submitted to subjugation didn't have to worry so much about being persecuted. That's something, I guess, but I don't think it's enough to qualify as good. And besides that, not everyone realises that they're supposed to be subjugated, or by whom, or how. Jews and Muslims, for instance, realise they're 'supposed' to be subjugated, and even get the 'right' god, but have some of the details 'wrong', so will be cast into fire anyway. Really, given that people have a tendency to believe the religion they're born into, I think you ought to be worried that you were born into the wrong religion. "Secondly, Fear of God in the Bible doesn't mean we are scared of him." Why do you think that? "No Christian who knows their Bible is afraid of going to hell." I think James 2:14-18 suggests works as a requirement for salvation, so by this, a Christian might be fearful that they aren't good enough (although I think the prevailing suggestion is faith alone). There are also passages that suggest unforgivable sins such as blasphemy against the Holy Ghost (Matthew 12:31-32 and Mark 3:28-29), apostasy (Hebrews 6:4-6), or even simply 'sinning' generally after having converted (Hebrews 10:26-27). Besides, some agnostics believe enough to be worried non-believers will be burnt, but don't believe enough to be sure they won't count as a non-believer. Many Christians are fearful for non-Christian relatives too. So I think Christianity causes plenty of fear. "And I don't think fire in hell is literal, as it is your soul in hell and not your body. The Bible also describes Hell as separation from God. God is love, so Hell would be a separation from love, from joy, from peace etc; But I'm not even sure He'll lasts forever because the Bible describes people going to hell as perishing and dying." I think 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 suggests our bodies are remade, perfect and eternal, by which view I guess we would suffer eternally in Hell. I understand some Christians believe people perish in Hell, rather than suffering eternally, although I'm not sure this is the prevailing suggestion in the Bible, and I'm pretty sure the idea of Hell being purely a separation from Yahweh isn't. (Thanks to ChatGPT for the references. I vaguely remembered hearing these passages, but would have had no idea where to look. I checked them, though, to ensure they weren't 'hallucinations'.)

I just read it. Somehow I wasn't familiar with it after being in church for a decade. Insane how these people are pro-life and are yet okay with God killing David's baby for a wicked act DAVID committed-and then gave him another child and practically swept the issue under the rug. They're also happy to ignore the line in 2 Samuel 12:7-8 where God literally says, "I gave you your master's wives". God didn't pick ONE of his master's wives but gave him MULTIPLE. Yet Christians are insistent about the "1 man, 1 woman" narrative and state that this is how God intended it.

Reading the bible is quite interesting. You have to read it once, then read again and jump backwards and forwards with little notes. Can I say? I don't want to upset anyone? I am a complete total atheist, I am not an angry one like the others? How you find peace with your soul, in love, life, death, and happiness, is up to you and really none of my business. You can't get closer to God because there isn't one and if there is ... we are all pretty much doomed. There are rules to being civilised humans? The bible is not a bad guide to life, some bits are bad? Mostly the New Testament shares some good advice? The old testament has some bad things? So I think I am a good guy, I say hello to passers by, I care for my elderly neighbours, I pull people out of snowdrifts on my way home. Last year I pulled an old guy out of a car full of smoke, took the car to the local garage (a car mechanic), to get it checked out, and drove the guy back to his house, made him a cup of tea, and refused his gratitude when he wanted to pay me. Because I found that offensive (due the way I was brought up). I try and do something good every day for someone I don't know. because it makes me feel good and better inside The point of my comment ... you can be at the front of the queue, far better than the loyal, handing over money to churches etc. Just be nice to your fellows? You can be good without God, and if he turns up to be true, you were good with out faith ... how many points would that be worth.

As a worship leader in my old church, it was the emotional and psychological manipulation that I could achieve in a matter of minutes that was the penultimate end of my belief in any God. The final nail was the letter officially handing me over to the devil until I repented that closed the door completely.

@alexmousley7213 it was more my lawyer, who refused to accept any payment, who flew into righteous, glorious, and furious indignation threatening them all with legal hellfire and damnation that stopped them from outing me from the pulpit that Sunday. I had literally just walked in off the street, late on Friday afternoon with my story and the letter. He sat me down and quietly listened, read the letter, checked with his secretary for any conflict of interest, and exploded with outrage at what they had said..."How dare they say that, the bastards we'll sue them and their whole organisation for everything they have!" his was, by far, a much more satisfying reaction to him finding out I was gay than I ever had from any Christian leadership.

Whenever I bring this type of conversation up to those that I know practice their faith this way, they always tell me that I'm the mistaken one and that the power, grace, and presence of God is so unimaginable and incredible that all we can do is fall to our knees and weep. And if that's what God really wants, it is *profoundly* narcissistic and abusive -- it makes me sick just thinking about it. So many brainwashed people.

I love how Christians cherry pick versus to try nullify what you just read. For example, Number 31 depicts where god commands the Israelites to murder innocent people, but to keep the adolescent virgin girls for sex slavery. Quoting another Bible verse, or giving some "Jesus changed that," explination doesn't excuse the fact that at least at one time this god allowed child sex trafficking, and indeed slavery itself.
@kellydalstok8900 Жыл бұрын
Jesus didn’t come to change anything, according to the bible: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.” (Matthew 5:17)
@danmurray1143 Жыл бұрын
Biblical advice doesn't work in today's world. For example, I wouldn't want a bunch of slave girls captured in battle. I can't afford to buy them all cell phones. Can't afford to give them each their own bedrooms, clothing & makeup. Buy a bunch of cars when they turn 16. Not paying to send them all to college.

Let's not forget that a loving and just father figure wouldn't punish the innocent. And I'm not even talking about the Flood here! I'm talking about the banishment of Canaan by God for the high crime of ~checks notes~ being the son of the of the man that ~checks notes again~ covered his own father's passed out drunk nakedness. Canaan wasn't even present for his father's "crime". So the oh-so-righteous Noah gets literally pass out drunk, loses his clothes and passes out in his vineyard(1). When his son comes across his drunk and naked ass, he covers him. So God, in His loving and just way, punishes that Noah's grandson. (1) Because the first thing you should worry about after the entire world's food crops are washed away is a vineyard for wine grapes. EDIT: Which takes 3-4 years to produce fruit and on top of that the first few 'fruiting' seasons are usually smaller than normal, and rather sour. So that means they had to have planted these vineyards _immediately_ after the flood, along with food staple crops.

It's bizarre that so many Christians haven't read their bibles. Like many atheists, I was a Christian who read my bible cover to cover because it was allegedly God's word. And if they don't even know what's in the bible why don't they google it first before telling you you're wrong? That's willful ignorance. They're supposed to know the word of God, not shoot the messengers. But maybe they're afraid that if they seek the Lord like the Bible says, they won't actually find Him, because He's not there and the Bible is simply a bunch of contradictions which is why church pastors transparently cherry pick and change the entire meaning of a verse (often not even trying very hard) to suit their particular message.
