One thing I noticed very early on in my teenage Slayer days was that the stereo effect on the drumkit is set up as though you are sat in the kit. Hi tom from the left to Lo tom tom to the right. Most bands/producers don't do that. They set up the other way, as though your opposite the drummer, not THE drummer.

About time for some Slayer...Happy New Year! Seasons is probably Slayers most commercial song but still a banger. Definitely, the best song to introduce someone to Slayer. Lombardo's drumming is incredible. ❤️ that Sori likes Slayer. A lot more great Slayer songs to choose from...ones with interesting lyrical content: Read Between the Lies, South of Heaven, Mandatory Suicide, Repentless, Postmortem, Dead Skin Mask, War Ensemble (would be a good choice for live footage),

Slayer didn't get enough credit for their surprising amount of musical diversity early in their career. It's the most underrated quality they had, as their first five albums sounded almost nothing like one another. Show No Mercy: The Venom and Iron Maiden influences are incredibly obvious throughout the entire duration of this album. Hell Awaits: Contains many elements of early death metal, clearly this record was a big influence on bands like Morbid Angel. Reign in Blood: Shear speed, brutality and violence. Also impressive sound quality by 1986 standards. Thanks Rick Rubin! South of Heaven: A bit slower than what we're used to but also more melodic. A different direction that worked flawlessly, sounds like Black Sabbath meets Metallica. Seasons in the Abyss: Take the speed of RIB, combine it with the solos of SNM with higher degree of musical harmony and this is the result.
@petrilampela Жыл бұрын
Yes! I've always said that Necrophiliac from Hell Awaits is a death metal track and everyone is like "nah, it's thrash metal". But if you take the music and the lyrics and imagine the song with Chuck Schuldiner's vocals instead of Araya's it's just pure death metal, period.
@SuperTugz Жыл бұрын
@@petrilampela Yeah I mean, you have to "metaphorically squint with your ears" just a little to hear it, but the precursor sound that would eventually turn into Death's Scream Bloody Gore, or Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness is clearly there in that album, but especially on that particular song it's pretty clear. Seven Churches by Possessed is another good example of this, which I think actually came out in the same year as Hell Await but don't quote me on that. Though this one is a little more obvious. Some people actually do even cite Seven Churches as the first "death metal" album, I disagree slightly and think it's still mostly rooted in thrash but carries the same "precursor sound" that Hell Awaits does.

I'm blown away that you guys linked these lyrics to a DMT trip! 🤯 I think you are right on track with your interpretation of these lyrics. I tried DMT... In the few minutes I was on the trip... I saw everything from the beginning of time to the end. I experienced the life of everyone who has ever walked this earth. I felt that I witnessed the source of creation, and destruction. "The Abyss". I felt the presence of ancient ancestors. I could feel all of their eyes upon me. It was truly an astonishing experience. So the lyrics "Close your eyes look deep in your soul step outside yourself, and let your mind go. Frozen eyes stare deep in your mind as you DIE. Close your eyes, and forget your name step outside yourself, and let your thoughts drain as you go INSANE." This is the DMT experience. It dissolves all your understanding of reality. You absolutely have to let your mind go. NO FEAR. I want to try it again! 😂

Why are the reactions ALL about over analyzing, and mostly incorrectly lyrics anymore? Like when Iron Maidens Prowler was finally done. As if Paul wrote it from his truths. When in fact Steve wrote it off a story, as most were. What happened to mentions of the music? How can anyone listen to Slayer & Iron Maiden and not talk about the music? Bad enough the song picks are lacking because the "RICH FOLK" get most of the say anymore. But try to get some of the formula back that you all once had at least for those rare chances the older fans get to hear TRUE songs.

Crowley's work reads like theoretical quantum physics with a slant toward the hippie movement. It's very amusing to me how we go through cycles in humanity where we go on ego trips thinking we know everything about the natural world, then God gives us a correction. Humans are doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over again due to original sin (disobedience).

Slayer was never satanic. What some people read into Slayer as satanic or nazi is the topics they have made music about. Just listen to Angel of Death, it is more a documentary about Mengele. The descriptions sometimes tell what they really feel about it (harmless victims left to die, sickening ways to achieve the holocaust). Silent scream could be described clearly as an anti abortion song. The war themed songs: Mandatory suicide, war ensemble, eyes of the insane, flesh storm etc. are all depicting war, telling that its horrible and causes suffering. There are a few exceptions, mainly songs written by Kerry King, for example Disciple or God Hates Us All, that are clearly atheistic (he writes on one occasion: I have made my choice 666, but that is more a provocative gesture than a real satanic statement). Hannemann and King were always atheists, I don't know about Dave Lombardo, Arraya is catholic. If you read the lyrics, you can see, Slayer just depicts the horror, the cruelty, the sadness, so the dark side of life, humanity.

"Nobody Hears", "Asleep at the Wheel", & "I'll Hate You Better" Are solid! Others down bits but still enjoyable. Still Cyco is really just some redos. Not usually one to like my classics fed with. But was not too bad. If i didn't know if them in 80, i may have loved it. For Life was for sure a drop. Can't remember the reason, as i did know of something (damn brain), if it kicks back in i will return, lol. Anyways, was some good stuff, but for sure lacking from the 15 year love! Yet alas! The tourings we saw in PA, DE, NJ, NY (extended tri-state) were AMAZING! Never saw a bad ST show & they are one of my most seen bands. I would try to catch ever show in like 100 square miles. Small clubs, parties, stadiums to festivals; meet & greets to deeply personal converaations. So many great memories & amazing stories. That was up til 95, had a bad accident & oddly was the time of their breakup & end of their classicy (best) line up. Few variables through the years, and Drummers not included. They were a bit Spinal Tappy there, lol. I heard some good stuff after Muir got things back. Just not full ST to me. Mike, Mike, Rob & Rocky were magical! If only they had Dave then! ...Or if Rocky would at least go back now and settle into some great jam, thus creating new killer songs! One can dream...

War Ensemble itself was just pure magic for me first time I heard it, just one of those songs that catches my attention right out of the starting gates, whereas this song was just as good but in a different way. Yep, we'll all miss Slayer now that they've hung up their pentagrams but I'm glad they were there when I was a teenager. I'm also grateful that I got to see them in Dublin on the farewell tour.

@@xerodelacroix5552 Well, it's in odd position for me to defend their channel politics but if they were after money they would have have never reviewed all the "nobody gives a shit bands" and all the Black Metal bands they did. They would have never stopped doing Metallica and went with the trend to do the Tool album when it came out but they didn't. So cut 'em some slack. There are almost no firesides anymore and the village is full of decent and nice people. At least imo the did nowhere near sell themselves out like Hefner and many other did just for some views...

I prefer a nice blend of music and lyric reactions peppered with the odd related story or just shooting the shit here and there, but I really hate it when they 'review' one of my favorite songs and say absolutely nothing about the music and just talk about something for 20 minutes, and then finally at the end..."So what'd you think of the music?" "Oh....7 out of 10" THANKS I pointed this out one time and got a "don't tell them what to do! They've always done their own thing!" reaction by a fanboy. Hey, I'm just pointing out what I prefer, they can do what they like.
