I always interpreted that Tobias Forge wrote this song as a tribute to his brother who passed away very young, right before Ghost became popular. Prequelle came out when I lost a family member, and this song always makes me cry. Thanks for reacting!

This is a beautiful song. I've broken down to it before. Prequelle's such a beautiful album. Tobias has said that he considers it a "positive record about death". It deals with mortality very intimately and encourages you to enjoy and treasure your life. It's personally my favorite album from Ghost and probably their least blasphemous. I don't know why that part is a factor for me because I'm an atheist and haven't minded their Satanic content in the previous albums but the theme of death just seems to hit home more for me.

Btw, I still don't agree/don't get what Sori's saying when she says that Ghost songs all sound the same. Nothing could be further from the truth imo. Tobias has tons of diversity. I think this was an enjoyable repetitive song because it's one of those that keeps building up bigger and bigger. The longer it goes, the more huge the chorus becomes. So even if the lyrics are repetitive, the instrumentals build and develop throughout.

He, the metaphor of death and the evil one, sings to his lover who has just died of the plague. He has a final dance with her now lifeless body out of mindless despair for his lost love...but her soul is now immortal and saved. As he wonders if beyond the grave she can sense his longing, which seems endless and provides him a small taste of eternity, she answers from her blessed place, "only if you had eternal life"/if you too were saved. There's also a sense of him being eternal like death personified, and desiring to continually haunt her...saying her name, longing for her, touching her soul: these aren't necessarily positive. She is now beyond death, and so she is beyond his grasp.

I think when he says this is the moment of just letting go, is implied to both people here. It's the moment of letting go for the person dying, but also the person experiencing the loss. She said if you had life eternal. Which you do not, you will die, why say my name forever? why long for me forever? It will keep you from enjoying the rest of your life. *There comes a point when you need to let go and move on with your life, because there comes a point when you need to let go and move on from your life.*

Many Ghost songs can be appreciated at most any level and each one is different. This one is about loss of a loved one, but also death by the plague, and also the end of a relationship. In this case the personal meaning (loss), death (album concept), and a situational meaning (the break up and betrayal by his bandmates).

I'm so grateful that you all overcome your scary hospital ordeal and everyone is OK now. My prayers continue that the rest of your pregnancy will be uneventful. I hate to even mention this story in the light of what y'all just went through, but this song puts together such a narrative in my head. I lost a pregnancy 9 years ago. I gave her a name, Zoe, to cope with my grief at the time. I still think of her always, but I also think of my beautiful stepdaughter who is a fiery, feisty 9 years old, and how I feel that God blessed my life with her and my boys. It makes me sad that there is no Zoe for Bella and her brothers to love grow with. But even though she isn't my blood, God Himself couldn't say that Bella is not my baby. She was a miracle who wasn't supposed to survive herself and even though the waiting was hard, and there is still a tiny pit of grief in me, I wonder if God helped Zoe come to me in another way. It's something I think about a lot.

This was a pretty solid power ballad. Its not a crazy song, but seemed a pretty simple message. I will say this was repetitious vocally but it wasn't really musically. So I think that is sort of the key. Its fine if its not both the music and lyrics repeating over and over. Glad Sori survived her daring jailbreak and trip to the ER. I would think at some point the nausea will go away right? Also I would say that in regards to your family knowing about this channel Sori. You should be PROUD. To answer Sori's concerns, this song is about the idea of death, hence "the moment of just letting go."

One of ghosts songs that isn't talking about Satan, this one is about passing away while the other is living and letting the loved one go that's passing away, the eternal one losing the not eternal one because of eternal one lives forever and the not eternal one dies at some point, I really hate how a lot of people take this type of shit for granted these days, unfortunately, it's really relatable to a lot, I have a feeling when I die, this will be playing, but with me alone

My partner, been together for 9 years past away recently... she wa sonly 46 years old. As we visited all concerts Ghost did in The Netherlands and we were big fans, this song was the last one before the coffin was taken out.. It means so much..

This album is meant to be listened to start to finish. All the songs relate to one another and essentially this is the finality of the story. It's set in Black Plague but parallels whats happening today and also his relationship with ex band members as well. Just like all ghost stuff, they are usually metaphoric for being being non religious in a religious world.

I have a ton of respect for your type of Christianity, if I wasn't corrupted at an early age I'd be on board with you guys. I think everyone should be able to look at everything from every angle and if you're a true believer you wouldn't be afraid to be swayed by anything.

It's more the idea that if you had eternal life, you would always outlive the ones you love, and long for them forever.

i know i've posted this before, but this song is more impactful if you listen to the entire album. and if you don't have the time or patience for that, atleast try listening to the song Helvetesfonster before it. it increases the emotional impact significantly, if you ask me. thumbs up.
