You are absolutely not “super weird” to want to be alone. I was born and raised in Carmel and Big Sur in 1946 and its hard for me to go back because there are now soo many cars and people. My mother and father knew John Steinbeck and Henry Miller and we lived on a ranch on the side of a mountain above the little Hamlet of Lucia. When you pulled out your copy of Chekov’s short stories that really caught my attention because that was one of my Dad’s favorite books. You are an amazing person and I’m so glad That I stumbled upon your site.

I've watched all of your videos but for this one, I realate on almost everything. Always been unable to stand people and modern life for too much. Since day 1. Energy draining. And after 30 it intensified. I also relate on the end of a long relation for external reasons (she moved far for work after 7 years). Last, the sadness of rainy season and the urge to be in a open, sunny, natural place. Where I live we have these beautiful sunny springs and summers and then it suddently becomes dark, humid, and rainy for months. I usually find myself alone in the car and it literally brings me to the coast. Sun, open space and waves brings the peace back. So keep going sister. Do what makes you feel good and stop doing what makes you feel sad. Simple as that. You're not alone. Cheers from Italy. Take care

Congrats on your 100k award, a milestone in this journey we are glad to be on with you. I look at what you’re doing as providing a service to your viewers who for a variety of reasons enjoy your storytelling and video magic! I chose to build my stable home life with my family first when I was young as that was my priority over traveling, a very close second mind you, I could have just as easily chosen to be an adventurer documenting the “Wonders of the World” out on my own. Having lived my dream I’m proud of the life I have lived and my accomplishments over the years. My children and grandchildren are stable very grounded individuals full of a passion for life. My point is to say everyone has their own priorities in life I believe in doing what brings a light to your eyes whatever that looks like. So for me seeing this amazing world through your eyes is such a blessing because some places I know I’ll never see in person. I’m forever grateful for the time and energy you spend bring the world to my doorstep. Thank you Christian, stay safe and enjoy these moments. Why is it that the sounds in nature are not annoying but everything man made is disturbing to the soul. Noise noise noise lol. 😊✌️💫

Don't recall how long I've been following you, but I do remember that you were in a relationship that didn't work out before you made this lifestyle choice. But listening to your need for freedom and solitude, it makes complete sense that a relationship with someone in the military would prove challenging because it's a such a structured and regimented life. There was something about you I felt I understood, and then I noticed you had a copy of Walden on your bookshelf in one of your earlier videos, in fact the same edition I have sitting on mine. This book had an insanely significant impact on me when I read it at around 20 (I'm 32 now), one of the best books ever written that I turn to in dark times and manages to put into words my feelings about life like no-one ever has before or since. I feel more connected to a guy living in a shack in 1850 than I do to people around me today. All the best for your future travels, both on the road and within your own mind too.

Christian, I have to tell you, these videos are nothing short of fantastic. It gives us such Kerouac and Alex Supertramp vibes, and it's nothing short of amazing. It's really living the American dream, open road up ahead in front of you, your whole life in a van, looking out for experience, because that's all you really want and need. Amazing, I hope one day I'll get to make these memories you're making now, and live that kind of free spirit life. This video reminded me of a song, "A long December", by Counting Crows. It has a similar theme to the song, a desire for something better after a complicated past. I think the song and this video really match. By the way, I am an Italian who grew up around Americans in the military stationed in Italy, so since you mentioned living in Italy, I assume you were here because of your ex being in the military. It must have taken a lot of courage to be vulnerable, so thank you for sharing and being vulnerable with us. Take care, stay strong, and we cannot wait to see more of your life on the road :)

I understand your need and want of solitude. I’m the same way. I live in the UP in what I call my treehouse in the woods. I was just sitting on my back deck, watching your video even though it’s 18 degrees out. I’m on 26 acres and it feels isolated, which I love. The house itself is shaped like a chalet but it’s under the cover of so many trees, which is why I call it my treehouse. I love to sit on my deck and listen to the babbling brook that runs down a steep hill behind my house, through my yard and under snow covered trees. It’s very peaceful. . I can be a bit of a shut in and crave change so van life appeals to me. I have a very nomadic soul. Hopefully some day. But for now, my home gives me peace (doesn’t hurt that the rest of my family don’t like going outside in low temps! 😂)

I used to live by the pacific ocean for years. Loved it. Now i live in the mid west in a small town. I see video's with people sitting by the sea and it drives me crazy. I wish i could be back there. Some how i need to get back there.

You left the the Northwest for the same reasons I did. Down the coast, to Vegas, to Sedona, AZ to Dallas TX to Florida and everywhere between. As you are aware, we love this area.

Hi :)) I'm so happy that this video was recommended to me. I'm a super weird person too, I love when I'm alone. I'm having a hard time lately, i don't know if university was the best decision. All I can think about is to move to a warm/tropical country, where I can work in a little cafe and be everyday by the beach, hike a lot and don't overthink everything like now. You're an inspiration for me.

Love this area of California Coast ❤ the footage of the surf was so peaceful & beautiful. Great snack, my exact favorite with a lil hummus. Oh yeah, the drive through the trees AMAZING. Congrats on 100,000. Soak it up girl!! 🌊🚐💕

loved this….the way you put it together, the feel of just getting to “hang out” with you for a bit. I totally relate to your need for silence and solitude….desolation. That is when I feel most filled up….as then I can fully experience all the sights and sounds of nature….my zen. Congrats on your 100k on youtube….well-deserved, and I see that you are already well past it…yay! Till next time….happy trails 👍🏻🙂

Mmmm... cookies! Yummm! Love listening to your stories, while being soothed by the background music, and then being delighted with the cinematography that's always so good! Big Sur looks amazing... and the beauty of Vanlife is that you can always come back and leave when you're ready. Thanks for taking us down memory lane 🥰

About Washington state, we have some friends who relocated to Seattle from Newport Beach, CA after having lived and attended colleges in Orange Co. and remaining O.C. residents for some years after graduation. Long story short, they returned to So. Cal. after about 6 months. They found that the oft overcast, rainy weather made them feel depressed and I totally get it. I usually spend time at/near my local So. Cal. beaches a few times a month either bicycling or skateboarding for my needed beach therapy, and absolutely love to take in the sunsets. Cheers!
