This wasn't as good as the first movie imo, but if there was anything that I loved about this movie, its Obsidian Fury. They got this monster perfect. There is a reason why Obsidian Fury is so much more "competent" than the human piloted Jaegars. Think of it this way, the humans are literally driving huge robots. Obsidian Furys brain was so incorporated in to that body, it's not so much being piloted, but the entire thing is alive, similar to how our own brains are controlling a body.

I've heard the original plan was to crossover with the Monsterverse (Godzilla films) at some point, and now with Godzilla vs Kong that would be absolutely amazing. Have the Jaegers be bigger, at least 350 feet so they can compete with Zilla and Co. Give Raleigh a third version of Gipsy Danger- maybe like "Gipsy Tyrant" or something.

This scene actually gave me a LOT of hope for this movie, I was so hooked and giggling like a kid at every move the Jaeger's pulled off, the choreography was insanely good for a modern movie (that uppercut UP a building had me laughing out loud with joy). The whole thing feels as epic as it did in your head when you played with toys as a kid. And that chest laser sound effect... That's one to rival the seismic charges from Attack of the Clones.

Obsidian Fury wasn't motivated by its own goals, it was just going about and achieving the tasks it needed to. Just happened to be on the wrong side, but it was quite effective up until its armor stopped existing so that a single punch could go through a tiny slit and all the way out the other side.

I dont know if it's just me but everything feels very light.... The thing about the first movie I really liked was not just the shear size of the Jaegers but also that you could feel how heavy these giant war machines are.... Every footstep felt earth shattering.... Here the Jaegers feel much lighter and not as big.... Maybe it's a design choice and they were going for a light and faster futuristic look but just my opinion

This movie was such an embarrassment to the original and to what it actually could have been. Perhaps if the creators were busy making a good movie instead of appeasing the 14 yr olds it would have been at least salvageable. Character arc and development was terrible, cgi left quite a bit to be desired and the plot was absolute garbage not to mention the indiscernible mumblings of those with heavy accents. Charlie Day should have stuck with always sunny imo.

The Drift is so pathetic in this movie. In the OG it was such an incredibly crucial well done plot element that gave some amazing character moments and shots. I mean come on, Young Mako running from Onibaba was just pants-shittingly amazing. Even basic lines about the Drift were so impactful. "I'll always be here for you, you can always find me in the Drift!" and when a character solo Drifited, it felt powerful and desperate. You could say there was a Triplet Drift and be amazed that something like that worked just because the Drift was so well built up. And the characters' bonding were better because of the Drift. Just think about how Herc has to say goodbye to his son and how the Drift impacts that goodbye. And they weren't even Drifting at that moment. The Drift was so well-done that you felt its impacts even when it wasn't there. It permeated the world and characters and you could write a goddamn research paper on how good it is. In this movie, anyone can Drift with anyone, even at low sync rates, it just doesn't matter and the Drift memories are pathetically done. If I was Guillermo Del Toro and I saw this movie, I would be furious. The plot and characters suck sure, but they absolutely mangled the most important concept of the OG, the Drift. Just pathetic. Even the most newb writers should be able to utilize such a genius plot element like the Drift. But nope, these people just don't know how to put heart and passion into a film. They had all the leg work done for them and they still fucked it up. Guillermo Del Toro is a genius storyteller, and I mourn the loss of him in this franchise. He would've made this movie a sight to behold and a journey to excite the audience. Just a shame.

It would have been perfect if Mako was Jake’s copilot for the movie because she’s already been a pilot. The siblings being pilots would be reminiscent of the Becket brothers in the first one. Nate could’ve been the council member that dies instead, and the movie could spend a little more time introducing him so we would feel the impact of his death.

Some things ive never understood is how they honestly expect us to believe that people could build their own "rogue" Jaegers of that size when in the first film it took a combined effort from all nations to build only around 30 as explained in the first movie during the scene Welcome to the Shatterdome, Even if he did mean 30 Jaegers in each Bay with 5 bays still only being 150 Total, and they werent even able to keep up that production. Now granted i understand who built the 'Rogue' Jaegers in this movie, i dont understand how the people within the universe could think that.

And it wasn't trying to be like the first film. Usually in sequels, you progress the plot. You make it different. It seems people only wanted Pacific Rim 2.0 and not an actual sequel. Look at Alien and Aliens. Both very different films but yet both are connected and are amazing. Just because it's different, doesn't mean it's bad. Atleast it did something new and it wasn't trying to have the same exact plot as the first film. But no, it seems most people only wanted more of the same. With no development. But that's not how stories or movies work. You need to add new things to the picture. Not just new Robots and Kaiju to fight eachother.

Problem for most people probably lies the core essence of what the franchise defined itself-Giant robots as close as real life physics it could attain and the their heavy hitting fight sequence against giant monsters. The plot is interesting and would’ve been the best thing for me for a sequel but the action lacked a lot of impact that the first film established. Jaegers moved much slower as well as monsters but this film looked like it was enlarged humans in a fighting sequence. My personal beef for this film is how jaeger pilots were teenagers not adults. I want professional pilots not cadets. I have no problem with young actors being protagonists but there’s just so many films of them being the center of the world that it makes me roll my eyes every time they say inspiring messages. Just compare Pentecost’s speech from the first movie to this. But I do get what you’re coming from, we need new things but for me, this franchise is still rich of lore and intrigue that it should retain elements from the first film and just introduce bits of new ones on the second. This one didn’t capitalize a lot of interesting things like the Russians involvement in the jaeger program. Hell, they got them a nuke from the last bit, why are their involvement so little here?

The first movie's Jeagers only moved slower because they were older models, Mark 3s to be exact. Striker Eureka was the only newer model in the first film and that's why she moved faster and didn't get destroyed so easily like the other Jeagers in the first film.
