As a pastor, I've been considering switching over the CSB and just invested in two goatskin editions. I was getting ready to get the CSB Legacy Notetaking Bible and was going to have it rebound quality goatskin cover. But none of these bibles include the new update for 2020. If I switch to the CSB, it doesn't seem like I can count on the translation staying stable for more than a few of years at a time. Honestly, that really deters me from wanting to switch over. It is understood that the English language changes over time, but it really doesn't change drastically for 15-25 years. Although the 2020 update is said to be "minor" in reality some key passages were changed. It seems that "minor" changes would be limited to changes in less familiar passages that are more narrative in nature which wouldn't impact doctrine or theology. I like what I am investigating about the CSB, but I feel as if I have wasted resources on the 2017 edition and am not confident that if I do switch over that within 3-5 years down the road the CSB will be updated again. Please give us a text that will be stable for a good 20 years. And if you're willing, making a public commitment to a 15-20 year stable text would be much appreciated.

This is a major issue I have with modern translations. The constant updating. One of many reasons I (a lay person but saved by the grace of God all the same) have decided upon the KJV and NKJV for my personal study.
@RoastBeefSandwich
@RoastBeefSandwich 4 жыл бұрын
@Ryan Buikema The changes may indeed be individually minor, I'm not sure (I have not looked over them but I trust no doctrine has been affected of course) - but there is a PDF on their site with 200+ pages worth of changes. So while each individual change may be minor, the update on the whole is rather extensive.

As a pastor you should not relate just to one translation. Actually you should use multiple translation, best if you learn the original languages.

I really like the CSB translation a lot but I have to admit that an update coming so soon after the 2017 edition kind of soured me. It's unsettling that we cannot seem to have any stable English translation of the Bible outside of the KJV. Every publisher seems to come out with their own translation, probably to avoid paying copyrights to other publishers, and every publisher changes their texts sooner or later. This doesn't convey confidence in the average layperson that the Bible they hold is completely accurate. I own probably around 15 different translations and enjoy most of them for various reasons but I'm also well-read and have studied the Bible for 40 plus years. I can't even begin to imagine the confusion that would go through a young Christian's mind today and trying to navigate all this. I did enjoy the video and found it helpful. I was a little irritated with Dr. Schreiner where at least twice he used the word "interpretation" when he clearly meant the word "translation". A huge difference. I did really respect your saying that pastors should be careful of how they critique other translations when teaching to be careful about not planting seeds of distrust in a translation anyone may be using. The only time I have been extremely critical of any translation was the Message and the original Living Bible. I honestly do not think paraphrases are helpful and are actually harmful. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to do this video!

NKJV hasn't been updated since 1984, also, there is nothing wrong with continually trying to refine the Bible. In my opinion, if people are THAT concerned about it, they should either learn Greek or at least use Logos where you can see the Greek and use a lexicon.

Starting to read the CSB devotionally for my reading plan along with the ESV. Im blessed by it. It reads very well especially if you listen to in audio on biblegateway.com. The ESV is what we use for thr pulpit bu our elders qoute multiple conservative translations. I think tg he CSB will become successful. Most important is that people would hear God's word speak and they will come to Christ and be saved.

I use the Parallel Plus app. I have CSB, ESV, NASB 2020, and NLT up when I read. If I was teaching kids or someone whose 2nd language was English, i might give them an NLT for its simplicity, but the NLT isnt for me. Enter the CSB. I like it. Good flow. Easy to understand. Thought for thought when it needs to be and word for word when it needs to be.

Im late to the party. I picked up an inexpensive CSB at a discount store for $9 new. It was a hand sized HC double column reference. Fairly small print. It sat on my shelf with numerous other Bibles for nearly a year before I picked it up and decided to give it a little read. I started by reading Jude (its short and engaging), then moved on to 1&2 Peter. Similar vien to Jude. I am now head over heels in love with the CSB translaion, the DK font and layout, and Holmans quality bindings It reads so well. It reads as good as an NIV but is far more literal, which I am after. I love ESV, but the CSB reads better and is a tad more conteporary in its reading. Its just much more smooth. I love NKJV also, but with all the newest discovered text fragments, I prefer an update. After testing and loving what I found and read, I pulled the trigger and ordered a premium verse by verse wide margin reference in leather. Im so happy. The Holy Spirit can use all the translations. I don’t support translation wars. The best Bible is the one a person will read daily.

I've been a long-time KJV/NASB/ESV studier. Based on the good reports I have heard, I have incorporated the CSB into my comparison studies. It has proven to bring out meanings left out or minimized in the others. Specifically, in Rom 12:2, referring to the 'will of God', the CSB renders a word as 'pleasing', where the others use the weaker word 'acceptable'. I'm no Greek scholar, but I can use a lexicon...

I probably have 6 CSB bibles and I love them. Can you explain why brothers and sisters is used more in this translation compared to more literal translations like the ESV or the NASB. Like I said I really like the CSB but I get this question from other people

I really like my CSB, but I refuse to buy another Bible. I have the KJV, the NKJV, the ESV, the NASB-77, the NASB-95, the NIV-84, the Amplified, the HCSB & the CSB. This is where I stop. I recently retired & simply can’t keep buying more bibles. I draw the line here.

So rather than translate the word as languages, we're concerned about what charismatics, whose grievous doctrinal errors add to the word of God, will think. Accuracy? Or Ecumenism? Which really was the priority?

I’m looking into switching to the CSB for my all around Bible but as a pastor I’m having a tough time because there’s not many good quality text/reference editions. It seems like there’s tons of study csb Bibles but every text csb I’ve gotten has poor paper in it. This is a major drawback for me as I don’t want my people to have to buy poor quality Bibles.

Can’t believe that there’s Pastors etc that don’t understand why there’s updates translations especially in the CSB. It’s not always a bad thing. Per year over 7000 words get there proper meaning understood better by new information thats found. Most English translations Haven’t fixed this understanding of words yet. Especially kjv ESV niv nkjv Nasv Nrsv etc... this is part of the reasoning

That is exactly what I thought. Updates mean that they are humble enough to acknowledge that there is continual room for improvement. Translation is never done because we continue to learn. I am always making notes in the margins of my bible as I look up words in the Greek and Hebrew so it’s normal to me and positive to hear they are making updates!

I like the CSB and use it daily along with my NKJV. I have a few issues but overall I am happy with it. One of my favorite verses is Micha 6:8 and I don't like what many new translations are doing when trying to make (Man) more inclusive ..it ruins the poetic reading of the verse. CSB is a bit better than ...Oh Mortal...Oh Human...but not happy

The different kinds of CSB Bibles are really good, especially the CSB Study Bible and Apologetics Study Bible. However, lifeway should recall and replace all the CSB Bibles that were bought prior to the 2020 update. It totally feels terrible that I just bought my CSB Apologetics Study Bible in 2019 only to suddenly find out that an update was made in 2020. I mean, what's up with that?! It seems like it's such a waste of money. Updating the text after just 3 years is absurd!

The CSB is a good overall translation. However I don't like some if it's inconsistency. Why isn't the divine name Yahweh translated and included in the OT the 6800 times it's found in the Hebrew text?Also in the NT which is written in Greek why is Christ translated as Messiah at all and often without logical order. ? Personally I prefer the NASB even though it falls short also due to it's own inconsistency and discordancy. And why isn't the word soul literally and consistently translated in your orthodox Bibles? Gods people deserve and need to read the original Word Of God , not man's traditions!
