In her mind, she absolutely has to have the eventual success of the team be as a result of her, instead of Clark. I think that's the underlying motivation here. There are other motivations for other people/commentators in the league to trash her. Her teammates don't want her to outperform them, obviously. WNBA management doesn't want for the rise in popularity of the WNBA to be attributed to Clark. The commentators, many of whom are former UConn players, don't want Clark to look better than them. Almost everyone has a vested interest in Clark not performing well. Inevitably, the league has grown, but now that it has grown, they want the growth but also the ability to discount Clark for the growth.

Sheeesh, bad passes, air balls, turnovers, missed layups, missed 3's, and at one point the Lynx let the Liberty get 4-5 offensive rebounds/shots in ONE TRIP DOWN THE COURT. Did I mention crazy bad passes? Only thing I see that is better consistently is perimeter defense.

So she left a team and coach she took to the championship game 2 years in a row becoming the greatest scorer in collegiate history where she had the green light to shoot (kobe mj mentality). She is now trying to fit in while her own team and the rest of the league are being passive aggressive at least and abusive at most while being coached by someone clearly out of her depth that is trying to mold clark into her plan of how to do the same old thing. Clarks trying to do what she's always done and make those around her better by following the rules during the adjustment period (following the coach's rules because she gets benched if she doesnt)

If this were the Sparks coach who will bench players or DNP young players if they miss just one defensive assignment or miss a couple shots in a row, I can see your point. Ofc, neither of us has inside access to what’s going on in those team practices and huddles, but if she really wanted to take more shots down the stretch (including that last play where she had the ball in her hands), she could have. To be fair to Bluder, Clark wasn’t exactly looking to take over the game and start taking late game shots in that NCAA championship game either.

Side is a terrible coach and a worse person. Early in the season the Fever had absolutely no inside game, and when that came around with assists from Clark the team jelled. Clark is a great passer, but her teammates are not ready for that part of her slick game. If Caitlin did shoot 20 to 25 times a game I do not believe her teammates would be happy. With all of the on court attention that Clark draws many of her teammates should be scoring 20 a game.

In the first qtr you get your big, um, person involved and your riflema, erm, sharpshooter involved. Get them going. Then the opposition has to at least "consider" guarding them and not double-teaming you the entire game. That is what the Bulls did when they had the GOAT. Whenever Indiana can get rid of what I will deem "The Downstairs Mix-up", (Dunn, Sides and the "It's a tax write-off" owner), they will become a dynasty.

I've never heard Clark offer any compliments about Sides, or even mention her, so that might indicate problems in paradise. Obviously, Clark doesn't get many opportunities if she is double and triple teamed and they still aren't screening for her. Clark may also have some problems from the ruptured ear drum. That can cause severe vertigo and balance problems that can take time to heal or even cause permanent damage. It is hard to know how serious that is unless they decide to discuss it more. They may not want to mention it or they may get more head shots from players like Reese. Otherwise, the concept of spreading the floor and taking advantage of Clark's passing makes good sense to build a well-balanced team that will keep addressing their weaknesses. The cream will eventually rise to the top.

waiting on tenterhooks, to see whether we ever find out what the h*ll is going on with Christie Sides. and when and how CC decides she's had enough of waiting patiently and watching her teammates fail to gel into a team. I firmly believe that CC isn't interested in just being a shooter: she takes assisting very seriously, look at her stats. and at Iowa, thanks to coach Bluder, she was able to help build a team that supported each other, where they knew to anticipate her passes and take advantage of them, and it paid off. now she's in the pros, and the 3-point shots are a lot harder, seeing that she's being double-teamed 24/7. but I believe she still wants to build a team: get her teammates the passes they need to score, and score herself when she needs to keep the defense off-balance. but her teammates need to agree with that agenda -- which is evidently different from how they used to play. so the coach needs to motivate them to work with CC -- but Sides isn't interested. so then is CC (as she said in a recent interview) going to "always pass" to her teammates, in order to show that Sides's coaching is incompetent? at what point is she going to use Sides's disingenuous claims that of COURSE CC has a "green light" to shoot, to start playing the way she works best, and demonstrating that that wins games? passing to AB, who knows what to do with her passes, and skipping Mitchell and the others who never pass to her?

The gaslighting is kind of crazy. It's like dealing with someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. You start out, you're doing well; but they don't want you to do well, because it reflects badly on them in some way. So Sides tries to take the ball out of her hand, get her to shoot less, and then it validates the idea that "Clark is not that good." And then when the team is not performing well, because Caitlin is being forced to underperform, Sides gaslights and says, "Oh, Clark needs to shoot more." I'm sorry but Sides is someone low-class from Baton Rogue, Louisiana. Aside from her performance as a coach, I don't like her or her personality.

What I don't understand is why are there not screens being set right, left, and sideways being set to free up CC? There should be screens everywhere for her and the screeners rolling to the basket off of those screens. CC would distribute the ball wonderfully and find her shots in an offense that was designed to make the defense over react to her getting open constantly.
