I know I can't take one more step towards you 'Cause all that's waiting is regret Don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore You lost the love I loved the most I learned to live, half alive And now you want me one more time And who do you think you are? Runnin' 'round leaving scars Collecting your jar of hearts And tearing love apart You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul Don't come back for me Who do you think you are? I hear you're asking all around If I am anywhere to be found But I have grown too strong To ever fall back in your arms I've learned to live, half alive And now you want me one more time And who do you think you are? Runnin' 'round leaving scars Collecting your jar of hearts And tearing love apart You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul Don't come back for me Who do you think you are? Did take so long just to feel alright Remember how to put back the light in my eyes I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed 'Cause you broke all your promises And now you're back You don't get to get me back And who do you think you are? Runnin' 'round leaving scars Collecting your jar of hearts And tearing love apart You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul Don't come back for me Don't come back at all And who do you think you are? Runnin' 'round leaving scars Collecting your jar of hearts Tearing love apart You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul Don't come back for me Don't come back at all And who do you think you are? This song came out when I was 9. I remember hearing it and being scared of the feeling she had in the song. I couldn’t understand it and I was scared I would feel that way someday. Here I am. 21. Escaped a narcissist 11 months ago. I’m just now seeing the relationship as it was. Psychological and emotional abuse is insidious. The narcissist makes you doubt your reality of torment they inflict on you. You don’t know how it got so bad, when it started so well. I feel how she felt. The nine year old in me is petrified she’ll never feel safe again, and the woman I am today feels the same way. Hearing Christina sing this ten years later and seeing how she’s overcome the emptiness gives me a glimmer of hope.
@sanarelTEPTC7 ай бұрын
If you felt like that at 9 I’m curious to know… wasn’t your dad a narcissist? I ask because this song came out when I was 15 and I screamed the chorus thinking of my dad, now years later I see narcissistic traits in him and understand how the line “I learned to live half alive” perfectly describes what emotional abuse causes in a person

First, I hope that you're still safe. This comment is several years old and I know better than most how easy it is to go back to a narcissist. You can know better and want better, and STILL end up in that "bUt He CaN cHaNgE iF I lOvE hIm EnOuGh" lunacy. Second, I promise you that it DOES get better if you do the work necessary to heal your heart and mind. I recognize that not everyone has access to the same resources, though, so I'll offer several suggestions for you and anyone else who may read this: ~ Therapy - particularly EMDR & CBT ~ Journaling - processing your experiences and emotions on paper can be very enlightening and freeing. Put some effort into REFUTING AND REJECTING all of the bull sh*t that low down, no good, dirt sucking animal put into your head ~ KZbin has some great videos on almost every topic you can think of, INCLUDING narcissistic abuse. ~ Google is your friend. There is such a rich gold mine of free therapy worksheets, videos, articles and books out there if you just Google the right way. ~ Local Public Libraries - Again, such a rich world of knowledge and self-help is available, for free, if you look ~ Local Group Therapy - Some are even free! If you prefer faith-based therapy, it's even more really available! Good luck to you, sweetheart. Good luck to everyone reading this! Stay strong and don't be afraid to DEMAND better from this day forward!

Ten years. Graduated college, marriage, three children. And I still remember the first time I heard this song on the radio. I was driving and letting my radio "seek" and it stopped on a station playing this song. There was something about the melody that grabbed me, I paused the seeking function as I pulled into my college parking lot, and listened to the rest of the song. I didn't have time to wait for the announcer to say the name of the song or I'd be late for class, so I made a note of the lyrics to Google later. I'm so glad I did and eventually found this KZbin channel.

Just as Fairytale of New York is a classic this too is just perfect. This performance by Christina, as in the one 10 years ago, sums up the pain, the price, of falling in love with someone who doesn't deserve your love. It speaks of the arrogance of a narcissist who we've only recognised after it's too late! Never give your love unless you know, that they know, it's value.

Girl, this song means so much to me. Your voice is still so pointed like daggers. I love it very very much and all of your songs. My favorite performance of yours, is your today show live acoustic, 10+ years ago. Surrounded by hundreds of people, conveying that raw emotion beautifully. It’s stuck with me for over a decade. But this… is beyond so beautiful. Thank you for singing this again and sharing it.

Huge fan of yours! When I started listening to your song “ Human” from 10 years ago I got divorced. Got cheated on by my high school sweetheart. For the longest time I blamed myself but I realized I’m only human, and I bleed when I fall down. It’s not my fault I bleed… your song helped me through a lot of pain. Fast forward 10 years later, I’ve moved on and doing much better! Thank you!

Two weeks later when she performed it live on the show (with an insanely beautiful dance by Allison and Neil), she was already charting, having sold 100,000 copies in two weeks. I can't believe that was over 10 years ago.

I know I can't take one more step towards you 'Cause all that's waiting is regret Don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore You lost the love I loved the most I learned to live, half alive And now you want me one more time Who do you think you are? Runnin' 'round leaving scars Collecting your jar of hearts And tearing love apart You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul So don't come back for me Who do you think you are? I hear you're asking all around If I am anywhere to be found But I have grown too strong To ever fall back in your arms I've learned to live, half alive And now you want me one more time Who do you think you are? Runnin' 'round leaving scars Collecting your jar of hearts And tearing love apart You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul So don't come back for me Who do you think you are? It took so long just to feel alright Remember how to put back the light in my eyes I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed 'Cause you broke all your promises And now you're back You don't get to get me back Who do you think you are? Runnin' 'round leaving scars Collecting your jar of hearts And tearing love apart You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul Don't come back for me Don't come back at all Who do you think you are? Runnin' 'round leaving scars Collecting your jar of hearts Tearing love apart You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul Don't come back for me Don't come back at all Who do you think you are? Who do you think you are? Who do you think you are?

What a funny thing, life. Ten years ago, I watched the man I loved destroy everything we'd built together while I tried to hold the pieces together. He wouldn't let me go, but he wouldn't let me stay. Ten years of running circles around each other with no hope of fixing what broke. A week ago, we finally said a real goodbye. I finally have real closure. I've felt so light. I can think back and see everything clearly, with no more regrets. I clicked on this link because I've always loved your music, and I love your voice. I wasn't expecting you to sing the peace I feel now. Thank you, for always showing your soul in your songs. It has always made me feel less alone.

How is it possible that the same artist can make this song sound so very different? I absolutely loved the original, had no idea it was 10 years old, not least because it’s still in my top 20 favourite songs, and so was expecting a similar rendition for this video...... I love the background visuals from the original video, which shows the angst from its first time airing, but equally love the entirely changed emphasis of emotion for this rendition.
