Imagine being a child and having the maturity and presence of mind to tell your dying mom that it's okay to let go. Christine's story is so heart-wrenching yet inspirational at the same time. A part of me hopes that she doesn't catch her "white whale" until she is at the end of her years so that she always has a way to connect with the mom she lost.

The last time I spoke to my father it was an argument over loaning me 50 bucks to get some supplies before leaving for basic training. The day after I graduated I was called to the commander's office and told he was in a coma with 72 hours or less. They had me on a flight within 4 hours. It was late when I arrived but I made it in time to hold his hand. An hour after I left I got the call that he had passed. I'm still hating myself to this day that the last words he heard from me couldn't be "I love you dad, I'll see you soon "

They say when you lose one sense, the other ones increase to compensate. Christine is absolutely a shining example of this. So proud of everything she’s accomplished. And when she talked about the beef noodle soup she wanted to replicate, I get it! I want to replicate my Granny’s vegetable soup and I’ve never quite managed it, and I watched her cook it so many times as a child and teenager. And I’d love to replicate her coconut cake, but she never wrote it down for me despite me asking her to so many times.

When I watched her making her finale dish the first time, I thought she must be crazy. While it no doubt tasted very good, it's also a popular dish in Vietnam that she must know will absolutely be destroyed in terms of presentation, considering she only lost her sight in her 20s. I didn't understand why she chose that particular dish for such an important occasion. When she said in this video she chose the dish because it reminded her of her mom, it all made sense. That was a tribute to her mom. She obviously wanted to win, but above all, she wanted to feel closer to her mom in one of the most important moments of her life.

@@myztroogeegibson3568is it too late to reply your comment? Well we Vietnamese people had been through various different dynasties, and it is believed that when a new reign was established, people usually tended to switch their family name to be similar to the ruling royal family, first was to hope for the tolerance of the royal family (like they would gonna treat you and your family better if you followed their last name), second was that according to our culture, every people under the governance of the King are considered the King’s children. Plus, when someone from a different family had rebeled and successfully took over the throne, they usually tried to destroy almost every old traces from the previous dynasty, even people who has the same family name as the late royal family, so some had to change to protect themselves. And for those reason, our last reign - Nguyen Dynasty shall become the most popular family name within Vietnam 😅

He didn't want me to become as the job was so tough, you have to work rotated shifts, high temperature working environment and long hours of standing. He adores me for my pass twenty years, and I didn't have his own personal receipe that I could learn to re make or duplicate his dish. It was all too late and I'm starting to forget how the taste is and how he look like, it was just like yesterday when he prepares for my F and B class, all the necessary ingredients and seasonings which everyone was so envious abt how professional I am I miss my dad, he was the best dad and the best chef, he's irreplaceable.

Way to go, Miss Christine! You truly are an inspiration, not just to me and the rest of the Disabled Community, but everybody! I hope I get to meet you one day, so I can tell you how much you inspire me, as a fellow member of the Disabled Community, but to also try your food, too 😊

Christine Ha is someone I can relate to. I lost my granddaddy this year and he was an amazing cook. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to learn his recipes. I always thought that I'd never be able to cook like the rest of my family. When I saw Christine and learned her story, I started thinking maybe I could. If she, a blind woman, can overcome her struggles and surpass her wildest dreams, then why can't I do the same thing? And now I'm on my way to do just that. If I could talk to her, I'd say thank you. She is one of my biggest inspirations.

What an incredible young woman. My daughter was born blind when she was pregnant with her twins her husband left. She runs her home and cares for her twins. When one sense is lost others take over.

I wish I could relearn how to cook like Christine ha. I remember watching her MasterChef videos when I started to lose my sight. I’m glad I got to watch her whole competition, especially when she won MasterChef. Unfortunately I am blind now and I stop cooking when I lost my sight. Yes, Christine Haught is really an inspiration and I really wish I could follow in her steps and learn how to cook. I guess I’m just scared to try it. It is so very difficult to cut even simple things like vegetables when you can’t see your hand or the knife. Even making something as simple as a grilled cheese sandwich is very difficult.

I'm a Chef , and in my opinion, she has more sense than a person who can see, she developed its senses of taste and smell, that's make her unique, most of all for her passion and dedication!

Lost my dad to cancer aswell, the 2nd harshest cancer you can get...but i always thought as she did...there is no way we lose him. He is to stubborn, strong and determined so i never thought much of it. He grew up a difficult life with war, poor and being picked on alot from his family for being different. He was slightly violent, silent and never spoke much to us growing up. I did not think losing him would hurt as much as it did, but what i think hurts the most is the fact that i took the time we had left with him for granted and never made some proper connection with him. I never understood him...until it was too late. Be there for your parents, hug your parents, talk to your parents...they can be taken away at any point and you only live once
