The cool thing about Cosmic is the team is building it for power users who sit in the middle of wanting customization and wanting it to just work so they can get shit done. Has a lot of potential.

Ol' Titus done goofed when he skipped the ML4W dotfiles. You can choose if you want to change your neovim config during install. Absolutely my favourite config of hyprland. Haven't touched anything else since I tried it.

Funny enough in the next livestream or two I find ML4W and it was a much better experience.
@donaldwilliams68219 күн бұрын
@@TitusTechTalk Yeah Stephen made it much easier when he created the AUR packages. I don't love Appimages in general, but he makes them work well for Hyprland. No need to go edit config files by hand, for newer users that IMO lowers the bar to using Hyprland. I mostly use JaKoolit's because he support NIXOS, among other distros.

I actually daily drive a modified version of the Hyde (prasanthrangan) dots and it does take some time to get used to, but once you do and you get familiar with keybinds and their scripts for wallpaper, etc., it works very well. Completely replaced regular DEs for me. I tried using hprlock over swaylock but it has issues, and sometimes just doesn't wanna unlock, so you have to reboot. end-4's dotfiles were also on my radar but I liked Hyde better. People come up with such amazing rices!

Titus: Let me butcher these installation scripts I don't fully understand, before even giving it a try in a clean environment. Also Titus: How can this not work? Something so simple as the wallpaper. That's why i use DWM and xorg!

I have been using cosmic since the pop 24.04 alpha dropped and I have been obsessed with it. As a Cinnamon user I never really liked tiling until Cosmic due to how much work they are to set up. Having Cosmic come reconfigured out of the box has made me love tiling. There are definitely a lot of bugs still left and features that are just straight up missing from some apps. For the most part though I think I am committed to cosmic going forward.

YES! Hyprland Does Work in a VM, I have it running in one using QEMU no GPU pass-through, It does not like Hyprland out of the box but once I added Hyprdot to it, it works fine, not perfect but works well enough to try it out.
@mckendrick76729 күн бұрын
I actually noticed the performance of Hyprland in a VM got better since he rewrote/detached from wlroots. You need Virtio 3D acceleration enabled iirc.

@@reep0074 GPU passthrough is a completely different beast. You need a separate display cable, and you can't seamlessly switch between OSes because it's more like having a separate computer. The only exception is if you run looking glass with windows VMs.

the amount of time that system 76 has spent developing Cosmic you would think that the out of the box experience would at least look better than the gnome pop desktop
@Drazil1008 күн бұрын
Their goal is to have as much of a seamless transition for their users upgrading to pop 24.04 as possible (given the circumstances). I am sure they will develop their own style in time but for now they are intentionally copying Gnome's homework. A lot of people like and defend the look of Gnome and Gnome is what their users are used to. Creating their own style would not only waste brainpower that could be used to develop features, but runs the risk of people hating their style and sinking the whole project as a result. What they did is EXTREMELY sensible given the lofty goal they are trying to achieve.

end-4's config is amazing, but I faced some issues with it. The lock screen sometimes stops working completely and I need to restart the pc, and some apps like google chrome which I use for my work just gets killed with no reason while using it.
