Debian is my favorite distro... If I could only choose one Linux distro it would be Debian! My install history I have is hilarious though... First install in 2019 - Bad USB drive - (installer failed over and over) Second install 2020 - Grabbed a testing build iso that was bad ( again... my fault) This Install in 2023 - a 4k 30hz HDMI switcher rendered a bad resolution in BOTH TTY and Desktop ( exotic hardware fail ) I'm cursed!

Debian is my Linux distro, I’ve been using it on my home computer since around 1998. I use NetBSD for an old Sun sparc64 I enjoy fooling around with. I have a dual boot laptop to test different Linux distros when I see or hear of one that seems interesting. For work, we have Windows. But that’s out of my hands.

Don't let the entry for the root account empty! You will discover that it is very helpful to be root when the system has crashed and you want to enter via secure boot (or what the hell it is called). In this case the system wants to start a root shell and it is a pain in the rear when there is no root.

I'm loving debian 12. Been using it for about 10 days. 2 problems I'm having. I set it to never power off or sleep and just shut off my monitor power. It worked this way with Ubuntu for the passed 7 years. Now if I shut my monitor off then power it back up I get no signal. I have to hit the power button(sleep) wait a few seconds. Then power back on. Problem 2 not as important but I cannot get OpenVPN3 to install. Other than those 2 bugaboos I really like debian 12. Seems snappy and more responsive than my previous OS (ubuntu 20.04).

@21:00 I run 6 to 12 drives in a system and have not seen the Fedora Partition mess it up in over a decade, with a combination of BTRFS, EFI, EXT3/4/ FAT32/ and NTFS each mounted to different points while being in an LVM. I would like to see an actual example of what breaks. BTW switching to Debian 12 after Red Hat becoming increasingly unreliable.

Was happily running Debian 12 KDE until I needed an onscreen keyboard/virtual keyboard, it really shouldn't be that difficult considering for many virtual keyboard is essential for accessibility; apparently it's a wayland security feature. I don't 'need' virtual keyboard but it's useful sometimes, but what about those who actually need it out of the box.
@FoxyDrew

So shut the security feature off then install whatever OSK you want. It's Linux not windows lmao
@Voodoo_S3

@@FoxyDrew Because it's that easy (and btw you don't actually shut the feature off it's part of wayland from what I gathered you add an exception to it), it's not windows you know. Didn't have to mess around like that in previous versions of Debian. Probs best you stick to "dem Minecraft videos m8" unless you've actually got something helpful or constructive to add.

Is there an actual functional setup script along with a cohesive video that isn't assuming prior knowledge of any custom mounts or files that the consumer may not have already? Watched the whole video multiple times (skipping the shenanigans) and still unable to see this in action for a daily driver. Edit: dwm wasn't in the script and I couldn't get autologin to operate or the theme to show up but I did get everything somewhat running, just have to read more to tweak it.

PSA: Anyone using discrete GPUs with DisplayPort cables to connect to their monitors will get a BLANK SCREEN after install. The only way to get video out post-install prior to install nvidia-drivers (WHY IS IT NOT INSTALLED BY DEFAULT ALREADY OMG) is via HDMI. So get out a HDMI capable monitor/cable and attach to it and voila. Install your Nvidia or AMD proprietary discrete drivers and boom, DisplayPort works. It's been like this since Debian 8/9 I think. It's annoying as heck.

Even all the audio stuff, Reaper, Ardour, etc. Then I opened the package manager to add a few programs and was prompted to update the system. I did and BANG! Audio gone. Sux cause that is what I wanted the most in Linux. Every few years I try Linux again cause audio creation in Linux is such a P I A, and I had just watched a video where it finally works. Nope, never does. Maybe one day they will fix it.
