Here a tip for anyone who struggles to remember commands: just remember what the abbreviation stands for and you won't forget it: mkfs = make filesystem, ls is list, lsblk = list blockdevices etcetera I had the same problem with remembering a herb, when I keep forgetting it I look up what the plant, flowers and herb looks like and then I can remember it easier. The brain works associatively, the more datapoints you have in relation to any fact (name) the easier you can get access to that fact in your memory.

haha I just installed an Arch system with KDE Plasma last night. It was fun trying to install on bare metal for the first time. Learnt some newer things like UKI and Secure Boot too. I think this is finally the end of distro-hopping for me

ohh I just did a reinstall of my arch system a few days ago (got a new ssd) and setup UKI as well. are you using a bootloader with it or just booting straight from the UEFI?

Tip for anyone trying to reboot into bios from windows--just hold down shift as you click reboot and it will boot into advanced startup. just navigate the menus and find the option to boot into uefi. Works every time.

Hey Chris whenever I try to Install Etcher in Nixos via the nix configuration file it always gives me an error of Electron 19.1.9 being EOL. I switched to Nixos Unstable and still nothing. Not much available on the internet.. Can you please help?

Arch is a meme OS. It's good as a tinker box, but not as a daily driver, unless you're a masochist and you love troubleshooting more than having a functional desktop. If you say that's not true you're just lying to yourself because you know that's the truth.

@@supra107 i've been using arch for about a year now, and aside from some issues with Hyprland and KDE (which was their fault) i didn't really have to troubleshoot more than i would have to with a "stable" system like debian. Using arch can totally be stable. But if you go into the AUR and install every package just because you can, you literally ask your system to break.

I always have to reboot the system before I can use the archinstall, otherwise, I'll get an error the drives are inaccessible and can't be mounted, even though they're all visible. What about doing this same thing, but with GNOME?

The default plasma-desktop package misses a lot of things which can cause errors or even crashes cause crashes of the window manager and Wayland, i discovered this by doing the same and not reading the entire page about Plasma, because at the top, they do not mention that just installing that package alone will cause issues, but they do imply that it might as they say to also install other group packages along side. As for me, i figured out which packages caused the errors or where related to them, installed them and boom, no issues again.

​@@BigDogHaverdepends what you want; you're going to have to do a lot of your own configuring with hyprland, but compared to other TWMs it works well out of the box. it also has its fair share of problems and incompatibilities, especially on the git version. the TWM workflow also just takes some getting used to and isn't for everyone. i'd recommend plasma 6 if you want all aspects of your desktop to work (mostly) out of the box, and hyprland if you don't mind tinkering a bit once you've installed it and learning how to configure it. you have to install the notification daemon, status bar, run launcher etc. all on your own, whereas these are utilities a desktop environment will just give you 90% of the time. in the end though, it's not really fair to compare them. i've been using hyprland for 8 months and i love it, but recently i bought some new hardware and have been having issues with it; if the parts you're buying for your new pc are fairly popular, you shouldn't have the same issues.

Hi, do you know about protondb? It's a website for collating reports about how well games run on Linux, on steam, with proton. Might not be 100% reliable but should give you an idea of how a given game should run.

In my case, plasma 6 just broke like everything when using it with x11... Seemingly it doesn't apply any refreshrate above 60hz anymore (it says it's on 144hz, but clearly isn't) Some apps are lagging like crap (ex. kitty or firefox/floorp) Some apps straight up crash after like 10 seconds. And with wayland, i cant even take screenshots... So i honestly don't see any reason for me personally to use it yet.
