What a Magical Mystery Tour this trip was . Ever changing terrain from soggy tundra to a forest covered in evergreens to the huge rock formations . The views from the cliffs were amazing . The tents were festive , music was on point and Chad’s socks and shoes or the reactions you two were handling the situation I had to laugh as well😂😂. Enjoyed the hike as I do all of them! Love you! Proud of you!

I have a lot to say, so let's jump right in! 1:35 This might be your best intro. There’s so much variety and drama in the shots you chose that I couldn’t wait to find out what happened even though I was there! And I love the title shot where we’re surveying the landscape. 1:55 This is a nice touch too 😉 I’m glad you leaned into the Christmas theme. 2:45 I was kicking myself for not shooting anything at the hotel, so I’m glad you documented this part of the trip. I appreciate the little Trail Santa Easter egg too. 4:05 This music captures the awe I felt arriving at the Sods and reliving it through your video. It’s so good to see it again. 4:30 I’ve always wanted to do a map sequence like this but it never quite works out. Well done. 8:35 That famous view of the Sods. You must have done something right in making this video, because it gives me the same feeling I get when I’m there. It’s hard to describe. It feels so REAL to me. And it reminds me of home. 10:20 These ice patterns are so cool. 10:53 How am I this muddy and wet already?! 😂 12:50 Rocky Ridge was looking even more otherworldly than usual in that weather. I’ve never been anywhere else like this. 13:45 There’s a serious game of pocket pool going on here. 14:55 This is making my ankles hurt just looking at it. 16:05 This is the perfect place for starting the Christmas music. These trees seem so primeval seen from this angle. 17:10 I had no idea I could be made so happy by Christmas lights on a tent, but here I am! 19:00 This was such a good site for breakfast in our sleeping bags. Also, I laughed at all the unburnt wood on the fire. 21:00 I forgot how windy it was before we even got to Lion’s Head. It’s already starting to look dangerous. 23:00 This entire segment is very powerful. The visuals, narration, and music are all very well chosen. It might be my favorite part of the video, and one of my favorite segments on your channel. 24:00 Good choice to let this shot go a little longer. This is the best one for showing just how windy it was up there. I always forget how insane it was until I see the footage! 24:10 It makes me very happy that you also used Carol of the Bells here. Is there any other choice?! 24:30 I like how I’m casually strolling along as the trees look like they’re about to be ripped up by the roots and thrown around. I guess I wasn’t looking up! 28:20 This waterfall area was a relaxing interlude in both the video and the hike itself. 30:15 The Sods are gorgeous when they’re soggy. Maybe that’s part of the reason we were in such high spirits despite being utterly soaked and cold. 31:00 The Moody Sods! These are probably the least inviting conditions I’ve ever backpacked in. No wonder we were so happy to be in our tents. 32:40 The sounds of the storm! This tent sequence makes me feel almost as relaxed as I did at the time. I still think about this evening pretty often. 3:45 I can’t wait to be wrapped up in my own WM bag on a morning like this. 34:00 I had to do a double take because I thought at first that you were smoking a cigarette here, 😅. 36:36 This is the other part that’s vying for my favorite in this video. Very well said, my friend. You captured my feelings well. One of my favorite parts of backpacking is learning how little I/we need in order to be happy. I also laughed seeing all our frozen gear again. Even my torture-device shoes were funny! You should have seen all the pine needles in my bathroom after all my gear thawed out. 39:15 I forgot how gorgeous this morning was. Maybe I was too cold at the time to fully appreciate it, haha. I like the mood you’ve created for the hike out. 40:00 The cracking ice is fun to watch. 40:50 Auld Lang Syne nicely ties together both our videos that were released around this time. 42:46 I forgot that you risked your drone in those winds! The shots were worth it, especially the one looking down on us as we scramble across the rocks. And the high-five just as the music wraps up is the cherry on top. 44:11 The Devil’s own pizza, pictured just moments before I had a consciousness-altering experience from eating it. This place was great, though. One of my favorite post-hike meal locations. 44:45 Beyond the Campfire OnlyFans: Dolly Sods Edition. 45:20 Hats off to you for putting this in a video. Well done, sir. You are a man of your word. The culmination of all our trail poop-talk. 46:20 Four jumping jacks was my limit with all that frozen gear on, haha. This is one of my favorite episodes on your channel, and a video I'll return to when I want to relive this trip. I'm glad you let this one go long. It felt like a quick 46 minutes to me. Thank you for joining me on the frozen tundra, doing all that midnight driving, and producing this video! We need to get Nick out there. Maybe a Dolly Sods and/or Roaring Plains trip is on our schedule for 2023 (or beyond). I love the Christmas theme of this one, too. Thanks again, and I'll see you soon, brother!

I appreciate the extensive comments you left on my Sods video, brother! It always means a lot to hear from you in this way. I think it helps me as a creator and deepens our friendship as well. This trip sure had a lot of drama for us to relive! 1:35 Thanks brother! I wish I could say that I preplan how these intros turn out. A lot of times I just find representative clips from the trip I like and hope they piece together well. So far, they all have haha! 1:55 Thanks for the help in getting this background to blend so seamlessly on DaVinci! 2:45 As long as one of us can capture those pretrip shots, we have the memory preserved forever 😉 4:05 I also really enjoyed the vibe this music brought. Arriving and starting at the Sods almost feels like going into outer space for some reason haha 4:30 I think I copied this idea from a conversation we had one time about maps, so I apologize! Lol 8:35 There really is no other view like this in the lower 48, imo. I was left speechless by the foreignness of all that beauty, and like you said, it feels homey too. 10:20 Almost as cool as stepping on them! :P 10:53 Dude I wondered the same thing when I saw this shot! It was a wet and mucky first day, for sure. 12:50 Those rocks looked at felt like sculptures. I’d love to go back and camp on top of Rocky Ridge like you did the trip before last. 13:45 Bwhahahaha, The Elusive Birch Bark Pocket Magic Trick! 14:55 I’m pretty sure I remember having more feet pain than usual from this trip. So many rocks! 16:05 I loved that area where we camped on night 1. Especially arriving at night. Those spruce and pine trees were so welcoming! 17:10 I move that the Trail Tribe has Christmas lights on a regular basis on future trips! 19:00 Bwhahahaha I didn’t even see all the unused wood while I was editing. It really was a sad little fire we had, wasn’t it? At least it wasn’t super cold at that point. 21:00 It felt like as soon as we left the campsite, the wind started. It was wild. 23:00 Thanks so much, brother! Having this song in the video was one of my main goals, and then that verse popped into my head while I was piecing together the narration. I’m really happy with this segment, too, and will return to it when I need some inspiration and encouragement for a future reality that I am hopeful for. 24:00 That poor Wind Jacket I had wasn’t doing anything to cut that wind! 24:10 Thanks BTC for this music recommendation! 24:30 It did feel odd looking back at this shot at how calm you were during this whole sequence. My anxiety level was kicking in big time after we ran off of Lion’s Head haha 28:20 Getting back down to Red Creek was so much fun, even though we were soaked! I loved exploring that waterfall/cascade area near lunch. 30:15 You got that right! The colors, scents, and senses all seemed to explode once the landscape got some moisture on it. I would argue that hike to camp 2 was one of my favorite parts of the trip to see! 31:00 At one point the landscape and Sky felt and looked so black, I thought we were in Mordor. It was getting mean out there ha. 32:40 We had some Trail Santa magic bubble around our tents that night, because I also remember feeling so relaxed inside my tent even though just a few millimeters away in fabric the wind was howling. 3:45 WM Party, here we come! Bristlecone, Lynx, and Big Horn, party of 3! 34:00 I wish I had a cigarette here, it probably would have warmed me up! 36:36 Thanks man, I agree wholeheartedly. This is hands down one of my all time favorite moments of backpacking. That juxtaposition between the weather and our elated moods that morning was just very impressionable for me. I wish I could go back to that moment fairly often, along with the snowy Pine Mtn trip. 39:15 The sunniness was so deceiving! It looked like it should have been warm, but it was cold af! Im pretty sure I had on every unfrozen article of clothing on that hike out. 40:00 It doesn’t beat the BTC slomo ice breaking, but it’ll do, Donkey 😉 40:50 Isn’t that a coin-winky-dink! I love that song, and it brings up a lot of emotions that are tied to family, and friendship like our beloved Trail Tribe. Sounds like you have a similar sentiment with it in its placement in “Many A Weary Foot”. 42:46 Trail Santa was extra kind on drone trips like this. It makes me even more thankful I have this footage knowing the fate of this drone in a few months down the road. 44:11 Never again! That pizza brought the full wrath of King Charles with it! 44:45 Sign me up, extra platinum edition subscription! 45:20 I am not a man who is going to take a dump on good ideas! Hahahaha Gotta push those things out 😉 46:20 I’m impressed! Im not sure I could have done one with how stiff I felt! Thanks again for always tuning in and leaving such thoughtful remarks! It really does mean so much. This definitely goes down as one of the most memorable trips I’ve experienced, and that’s crazy to think about when we didn’t even have the snow we wanted! I can’t wait to return to the Sods, especially if it means getting the entire Trail Tribe there! Thanks again, and looking forward to sharing the trail with you again next month!

WONDERFUL BROTHERS! I really enjoyed the music and your playful moods on the final day! What were you filming with at night? The gritty, blurry footage set the tone perfectly. I could feel how cold the trip was!

Thanks so much for watching, brother! We were probably so cold that last day it was making us loopy haha. All the nighttime shots were with my old trusty RX100 III that I no longer own. I’m glad it hear that the texture added to the video in a positive way and not negative! Wish you could have been there with us to brave the cold!
