@@BluegrassBackcountry I am sure. We were there this summer! Unfortunately this trail was down for restoring! However we did the beehive trail! It was a peace of cake! We did most of the trails in Acadia. We did the rim to rim in heat advisory. Made it very challenging! We had to send rangers down to help others!

I'm thinking about doing this hike this winter. Was there much accessible water, or did you have to stash it pre-hike?

Just did this in June and have to say probably the worst trail I’ve ever done unfortunately. Terrible marking, gps from Gaia and onX didn’t align. Completely overgrown, in terrible condition from the horses, way to much road walking, all the water sources were dry except for the main creek.Was really excited as there’s not much in the Midwest with this length and difficulty but I wouldn’t recommend. Garden of the gods is pretty though!
@BluegrassBackcountry

Sorry to hear your experience was not the greatest. I definitely would not do any of the River to River Trail in June, due to the heat, humidity, bugs, horse activity, and dried up water sources like you mentioned. December was the perfect time for us, and I did a thru hike of it (which is a video on my channel) in May, which was just about the limit in terms of conditions. I used the REI Hiking Project App and we didn't have too many navigational issues. Hope you can get back out there and have a redemption trip sometime!

Thoroughly enjoyed this, I was mesmerized! Count me as a new subscriber. Hiked here for 5 nights just a couple weeks ago, trying to escape the heat in South Carolina. Maybe I should try a hike in January? Not!... Not yet anyways. I know I have much, much to learn about cold weather hiking/camping. One question, how did you navigate all the rocks on Huckleberry Trail?
@BluegrassBackcountry
@BluegrassBackcountry Ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching and your kind words about the video! This was a crazy trip, I definitely got nervous a few times regarding how cold and wet and exhausted I was feeling! Thank God for a -25F sleeping bag and a mountaineering tent! In regard to your question, I don't recall any trouble with rocks on any of the trails I was on during that trip. I believe that must be because of how much snow pack was already on the trail that it provides enough cushion to avoid those hazards. Stay tuned, more adventures to come!

I’m sure there are worse. I’ve been on it. There are handholds and safety rails installed judiciously for the casual hiker to hold. The ladder rungs are necessary to scale certain sections but when was the last time a ladder scared you? If so, don’t do this trail.

I've watched this several times already and will probably be singing it to raise our spirits the next time we're trudging through the mud on the PMT. A major contribution to the legend of Pine Mountain! I'm so glad to see that everyone else is enjoying this as much as I am. It brings together all of your talents in a way that captures the essence of Pine Mountain. It really came together well. The recording sounds great, the color grading fits the mood of the song and the trip, and you nailed the troubles we faced on that hike. I was actually starting to think about doing the PMT again until you reminded me how difficult this trip was 😅 0:32 It took me several viewings to realize you can see us standing on the ridge in this shot! 1:42 I love this shot of me and Nick and our weary satisfaction. 2:00 So much stuff happened during this trip that I forget that the first section (with the caves and arches) was the same trip as the rest of it. 2:32 Nice catch on the old wheel. I don't remember seeing it. Great image. 3:25 I love how the mountain looks in this shot. 3:40 This is probably my favorite shot/lyric combination in the whole video. I still have nightmares about that rhododendron hell. 4:15 Nice night-lapse! Is this the first night? 4:33 This shot says it all. It makes me shiver and hurt just looking at it. Very accurate portrayal of the last day, haha. 4:30 Knights of the Satchel! 6:15 Your sacrifice in getting this shot really paid off. It did not disappoint. Part of me wanted to stay up on the tower all night and watch darkness fall over the mountains, so I'm very glad you gave me an opportunity to see it. 6:45 All the drone shots are great, but I especially like the cloud shots, and how the video is bookended by us leaving/entering the clouds. Perfect ending! Thank you for putting all of this together. Your work really paid off, because this turned out better than I could have imagined. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next, and to more time on the trail together! Cheers, brother!

@BluegrassBackcountry
@BluegrassBackcountry 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! The ticks weren't great, if I am being honest. I would definitely get some permethrin to treat you clothes and bring deet, too. You can camp pretty much wherever as long as its a few hundred feet off the trail. The trail is flat enough across its 60 miles that shouldn't have trouble finding a spot. There weren't many "developed" spots from what I could remember. It's definitely remote and rugged! Hope you have a good time out there! This is a 60 mile one way route, so you would need two vehicles (one at each end).

You can access Dog Slaughter Falls by either taking the Sheltowee Trace/Moonbow Trail starting at the Cumberland Falls visitor center, or drive Forest Service Road #19 until you reach trailhead #414 (Dog Slaughter Creek). Trail #414 has had some issues with fires recently, so I would check to make sure it's open before attempting to go that way.

At night they have a lady that does guacamole at your table. Last summer my son wanted to climb some rocks at the highlands when out of the blue two F15s come flying at 50 feet above us. Of course without any warning there were no pictures of the event. We live outside of Louisville.
