The Grisha world is based on different country's/places/cultures. Each country is based on another place. Ravka is indeed based on Russia, but Kerch is based on The Netherlands, and Fjerdan is based on Scandinavia and Shu Han is based on China I believe! In the Grisha trilogy you got mostly Ravka, but Six of Crows takes place in both Kerch and Fjerdan :) I'm excited for you to read it, Six of Crows is one of my favorite books of the year :D

As someone who read Etiquette and Espionage first (and then discovered the adult series, Soulless), you're okay. I understood the world and the story with no problems and it doesn't read as if anything is missing at all. The adult series takes place years after the YA series, so you see some cameos, but it is in no way necessary to read before E&E. It's also historical steampunk and fantasy, which add a hilarious and bizarre twist to the story when you try and describe it to others. You're going to love it (and the series is complete as of November, too!).

I have read all of Gail Carriger's novels. She is one of my favorites and I think you will enjoy both the Victorian aspects as well as how funny they are. I don't think you have to read The Parasol Protectorate series before you read the Finishing School novels per say but you might get more out of them. They are blatantly written for different audiences but all her novels take place in the same world and there are characters that overlap from one series to another. I would probably at least read Soulless first to get your bearings on how that world works politically but the first adult series is my favorite so that might be biased.

You dont HAVE to read the Parasol Protec. series before E&E, since E&E is set before that series. However, there are characters in that series (E&E) that are main characters in the first (P.P) with little jokes about things that come to be. Still a great read, both series xD

They all take place in the same universe, and while the Parasol Protectorate series was started first, the Finishing School series actually takes place earlier in the timeline. There are characters that overlap in all three of her series, so lovely visits from old friends, and others linked to them are great surprises. Read away and enjoy Sophronia's adventures. If you enjoy funny, paranormal, steampunk, adventures you'll adore this series. Just remember this name...Bumbersnoot! Ooohhhh, The Rook sounds great. I just one-clicked it. With Etiquette and Espionage, you don't have to read Gail's adult series first. You shouldn't have trouble understanding the story at all. It's just that all of her books are set in the same world and she's really good about intertwining characters and little details across the different series. So by not reading the Parasol Protectorate first, you might miss out on some little easter egg type things, but other than that, you should be fine to drive right into the Finishing School series.
