I love the colors of your blooms! I grow my holiday cactus in half or 2/3 orchid bark and the rest compost. I water once a week doing the soaking method. The bark makes it dry out faster and allows more air for the roots. Once a month I use orchid fertilizer. They double in size every year so I'm having to give pieces away. As you said, you can treat them a little like orchids.

Commercial potting soil is called ‘potting compost’ and is odourless ✌️

It's gotten a little sad-looking and droopy over the years, and stopped blooming, but just a few days ago it started blooming again, and I wanted to know what I could do to keep it healthy again.

Hi Patrick, wow. There seems to be a beautiful family behind that plant. I loved it. They take a lot of energy to recover from blooming, so it's important to give it plant food starting in march (your spring, wherever you are). I also noticed that only the plants I have that get as much indirect light as I can give all year long look well and bloom. i had 50 at one time, now i have about 20, they are not an easy plant to grow unless you have the knack for it, i lost a lot when i put mine out side, this year, ughhh, i had them in the shade, but for some reason i had a rough year with them

These are actually Thanksgiving Cactus! You can tell by the shape of the leaves. Christmas cactus are not widely available. To get them to bloom, just keep them very near a window because they need the chill to bloom. I have done nothing special with mine, and they bloom every year. I don't heat my house over 60 degrees F in winter either.

This is helpful, but I still have a question. I have had my christmas catus for about a decade . I did not know about pruning it or considered pruning it til now. It is pretty big plant now (it's about 30 inches wide and the leaf stem go about 18 inches down from the pot) and it blooms well and long. Their is no wilting nor signs of disease. Do I or should I prune a lot from it or should I prune a little from the edges and let it be? I am open to any advice.

Oh I hate them. They are a problem at winter specially for me and I haven't found a single antidote yet :( What I have noticed is that some bags of soil/compost come infested with them and that's how my infestations start. If you find the main plant with the infestation, exchange the soil if you can. Sorry I didn't have a nore practical solution for this one

I HAVE THE ANSWER!!! Pinguiculas! Dear little carnivorous plants which quietly eat all those maddening fungus gnats and have pretty purple flowers too. UK Garden Centres stock them probably from Spring now, although I did find one before +mas ✌️
