When he was a boy, Harry idolized Santa Claus, but one Christmas Eve, he witnessed something horrifying that forever shattered his innocent understanding of Santa. I must admit I had very low expectations when I first watched it because of all the negative reviews but I was pleasantly surprised by it and it had become one of my favorite movies to watch close to Christmas every year

If you're talking about how this movie (along with To all a Goodnight, another killer Santa film that came out the same year as Christmas Evil) didn't get the same controversy that Silent Night, Deadly Night got 4 years later. That really baffles me. And I find it baffling when back in 1984 that Silent Night, Deadly Night got a lot of controversy nobody brought up Christmas Evil & To all a Goodnight when it comes to killer Santa.
