I bought some of the DVDs and was reminded of 2 Oliver’s that I had forgotten about, the 2050 and 2150. Why don’t any of these ever get talked about, or end up in collections and shown on KZbin. Everyone always talks about and collects the ones like the 1955, 1950 T, or smaller, or the larger 2255 and G1355.
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 15 күн бұрын
They are very rare. Oliver only made 383 of the 2050s, and 1018 of the 2150. A lbig part of tractor collecting is getting the one you used to have or wished you had. For a long time, the 20/2150 were bigger than most needed , and even now, they are a big machine to move to shows. The auction prices show they've definitely caught the attention of collectors, there's just a lot fewer to show off.

I have to get build cards for my Olivers. I am especially curious about our 77. My dad bought it new in 1954, when they were beginning the transition to the super series. It has a 77 frame but a super 77 engine. Came that way from the factory. I figured they had run out of 77 engines. My mechanic Joe confirmed it's a super 77 engine.

They don't have build cards for the Fleetlines, so you might be out of luck. I suppose anything is possible as far as it having a Super engine. What's the tractor serial number?

Just an FYI, I had purchased a bunch of blank DVD's a few years back, I had meant to buy CD's. I donated 800 blank DVD's to the Floyd County Museum this summer. I met Mckenna at a show this summer in Iowa and went back for the 2nd day and took her the DVD's. Good to see you are enjoying the DVD's.

Merry Christmas Chris and family. I believe that Terra Tired 1950 with the 8 bottoms was filmed pretty close to where Terry and I live; just outside a little town in eastern WA called Rosalia. I always wondered if that was just a promotional photo shoot or if it was part of a Growing O Show out here. Do you know if there is a history written somewhere regarding where those shows were held?
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 18 күн бұрын
Sorry Doug, I don't know of any, but there may be something in the museum. There's lots of stuff to research there. There are some clips that look like they were filming as stock footage, but the clapper thingee says Growing O on it. I have never been to the Palouse, but that footage definitely looks like it. There are several minutes of that 1950 on the dvd. The color is off, so I may have some remastering to clean it up for my video. 😉 😜

@@ThatOliverGuyChris My grandfather saved a lot of the old bills of sale for some of his tractors and I got those after he died. One was for a Farmall F30 bought new in 1938 I believe. One was for when he bought a 1947 Farmall H new and I still have the tractor as well as the original bill of sale with my Grandfather's signature along with his brother and my Great Grandfather's signatures since they all farmed together.

@@ThatOliverGuyChris Oh and also standing in the corner of his closet was a 3/4 inch square wooden rod around three feet long with the corners smoothed off on one end like a handle. It has numbers and hash marks down one side like a ruler and has the name of a McCormick Deering dealership name that I have never heard of. I have no idea what exactly this is but the way it is stained I am guessing it is a fuel level checking rod for either the tractors or trucks or maybe even the storage tank. But I have never seen one of those before.

Steiner tractor has them in both 6 and 12 volt versions. It's a G-6 base, so you should be able to find it at any NAPA. Just make sure you verify whether it is 6v or 12 volt. If you need the whole assembly, search for Oliver bullet tail light. There are several online sellers.

I guess Oliver dropped the 2155 to use a Moline tractor instead. What engine would it have used?
@ThatOliverGuyChris
@ThatOliverGuyChris 18 күн бұрын
That's exactly what happened. There was a production 2055 and 2155, both were Minneapolis Molines in green paint. I'm not as up on the MMs, but I think they used the 504 or the 585 MM engine in those. If the Oliver version had gone into production, it was going to use the 478 Hercules, just like the 2150. The improvements were going to be in the hydraulics and operator station. I don't know if there was a planned increase in power to go with that.

Chris, with your vast Oliver history knowledge, have you ever heard of a family moving across the US using an Oliver tractor pulling a wagon / shed type structure living quarters? My understanding is they were traveling from California to somewhere in the Eastern US. During the 17 years I worked for the Oliver dealer (Ivan J. Zook Farm Eq.) in Belleville PA Mr. Zook the owner at times mentioned this happening. Apparently Oliver had contacted their dealers along the route this family was traveling to provide scheduled maintenance. Mr. Zook was one of the dealers that was asked to assist the travelers. He had contacted the local newspaper asking them to cover the story when he serviced the tractor, however they would not cover it, because they said it would be free advertising and they didn’t offer that. Mr. Zook never forgave the newspaper and definitely did not forget the snub. My thoughts are that this event took place in the late 50’s or early 60’s. If you or any of your viewers has any details on this story it would be great to know more about it. Thanks for the build card history. Happy New Year.

That sounds like the story of Mr Clark. I think his first name was Jim. He was a descendant of Clark, of Lewis and Clark, explore the Louisiana Purchase, and make your way to the Pacific Ocean fame. Mr Clark came up with the idea to drive a tractor cross country, somewhat following the path of his ancestor. He got with Oliver, and they sponsored the trip. I think Firestone was involved as well. Oliver supplied a model 990 with a special road gear that let the tractor run around 30 miles per hour. Mr Clark built a trailer to be pulled by the tractor. It included living space because he took the wife and kids with him on this trip. They started in New Jersey by backing the wheels of the trailer into the Atlantic ocean and headed west. They would stop at Oliver and Firestone dealers along the route, partially for service, partially for publicity. I don't remember exactly how long it took them, but they eventually arrived at the west coast, where they pulled the front tires into the Pacific Ocean. Mr Clark wanted to follow up with another trip, this time going from Mexico all the way to Alaska. None of the companies were interested in this trip. Without sponsorship, that trip died on the vine. I saw the tractor at a few shows in Ohio, and then it was sold at auction. I don't know what happened to it after that.

I wrote an article that was in the Hart-Parr Oliver Collector magazine back in the March/April 2005 called Coast to Coast on an Oliver 990. Lots of pictures and more details. There may still be back issues available. The Floyd County Museum handle the back issues for the club. You can reach them at 641-228-1099. Tell them you want the March/April 2005 issue of the Hart Parr Oliver Collector. Let me know if the have it or not. If they don't maybe I'll make a video using those pictures. I also see I was mistaken. It was,Goodyear and not Firestone that was a co sponsor

Merry Christmas, Chris. I'd love to get the DVDs, but we spend most of our Christmas money on vacation in Florida. We did stop at the Keystone antique truck and tractor museum on the way south, so vacation did include some Oliver's. I got most of the build cards that are available for ours and the local ones just show delivery to the Harrisburg PA warehouse but they could have been sold at 4 different dealerships. My dad's Oc4 came from Saginaw Michigan and my Super 88 came from Missouri i think. I tried to get the build card by engine serial number for my Super 55 but it doesn't line up with what the trailer is. It's an improved Super but the build card shows an early one. The area lines up from where we bought it. The engine could have been swapped but everything has yellow paint underneath including the engine and what are the chances they had another yellow engine to swap out? So I've kinda given up on that one.

@tractorguy100 there's some other things to watch for. There's a scene where they show a 55 series console, I think the guy is engaging the pto. Look at the hydraulic unit top. The breather is in the right rear corner, not centered under the seat like what was in production. I also like the scenes where they introduce the 17, 18 and 1955. A 1755 with a by pass oil filter and a larger air cleaner? I think they were all the same tractor, with the side panels swapped out.
