Actually, they could be helpful to the point of being annoying because they were working on commission in a lot of cases. Now it is a one-click proposition.

I worked for Marshall Fields in high school and college. They were good to their employees and we were expected to dress properly for work. It was an upscale store with loyal customers. Some departments went away over time…haberdashery, fur department, a wig department and beautiful jewelry. The window dressers were designers who had highly coveted jobs…so many fun memories. They gave us a special 33% discount for friends and family members during the holidays.

The 1980’s and the 1990’s were two of the best decades ever we still had just enough technology but weren’t tethered to the internet yet people were much happier back then without the social media destroying the society in general now it’s full of self centered narcissists.

I knew by the escalator thumbnail this was the Marshall Fields in Chicago. We went to the Chicago Marshall Fields every Christmas time for the beautiful window displays & all the magnificent decorations. The little girls restroom in the little girls clothing department had some cute short toilets & sinks just my size & I thought that was So Cool!

I thought that maybe the endless zooming in on those RED carrier bags might mean that this was some kind of promotional video for a particular store ?! Were these the bags used by that store ? Just curious I'm from the 🇬🇧 btw
@annahgibbus87 сағат бұрын
@lynnepostings Seasons Greetings England or UK 💚❤️🎄🦌❤️💚 Those are red & gold Marshall Fields & Company Christmas bags the people have their purchases in. If I remember correctly they were usually green & gold the rest of the year. There'd be a stand with them & they were 10¢ each if you wanted them. I was only a child when we went during the 60's & 70's. Possibly if you bought enough items they gave them for free IDK? We went every year until they redecorated the first floor as we see here. They used to have gorgeous wooden display cases I couldn't wait to see. Once they updated the first floor we never went there again. There were modern malls all over with Marshall Fields we shopped at during the 80's. They were pretty , but nothing like the old fashioned Chicago Marshal Fields on State Street. We just went to the malls after State Street MF redecorated. They were one of the few high class department stores that still had real boxes for your gifts & not those cheap foldable kind. It didn't matter if my Mom would buy a pair of socks or a formal, she'd always get a box for every item she bought. Then when my Mom had to go to a wedding, she'd buy something at a less expensive store & put their wedding presents in a Marshal Fields box LoL 😄

@lynnepostings Thank you very much I'm glad I was of some help 😊 There's just some things that shouldn't change except for electrical & plumbing LoL 😆 What I loved about Chicago through the 60's & 70's as a child & teen was the spectacular architecture! I loved the old architecture! Then growing up seeing England & all of Europe & everywhere else lol has 1000(s) year(s) old architecture even more interesting & beautiful! I'm never going to get tired of beautiful old architecture or floor plans 🤍😁 BTW I think Princess Charlotte is the cutest most adorable little princess ever! I'm so happy she's 3rd in line for the throne! I think with her personality, & the way she behaves & has always behaved she'd make a great Queen 👑 Her dresses & coats remind me of the ones I had that my Mom bought at Fields when I was a little girl. Back when clothes were well made. Wishing You And Yours A Very Merry Christmas 💚❤️🦌🎄❤️💚 & Spectacular 2025! 🍾 Cheers🥂

gift wrapping on the spot was amazing.. but even more weird and amazing where our malls had gift wrapping areas with a long table. I watched my mom pay a few dollar to have the gifts she just bought wrapped at these stations, as a kid i thought the whole thing was weird but now its magical to me.

What are people SUPPOSED to be wearing then?? Is there a dress code when at the shopping mall....??
@jercasgav15 күн бұрын
Lol, I remember that too when you were never, ever to wear pajamas anywhere in public no ifs, ands, or buts! I also remember too that the stores and businesses seemed to always have "no shirt, no shoes, no service" signs as well. I always wondered as a kid if there was ever an issue with that (people bare foot or shirtless)? Maybe there were lots of hippies that did that in the 60s/70s? I am a kid of the 80s/90s so I didn't understand where the origins of that came from...although I do remember men going shirtless a lot more back then in the heat.

Wow! What a flashback 🤠👍🏻. In 1987 my wife and I shopped with our four year old daughter and two year old son (Mom had number three ready to go January 5th) at our closest mall, The Lincoln Mall in Matteson Illinois. Shopping in the mall back then was quite nice. Everything was always decorated so nicely for the Christmas Holiday. But malls are quickly becoming abandoned throughout the country and many aren't safe like they used to be. You wouldn't catch me in the one near me now, The Southlake Mall in Merrillville/Hobart Indiana. Last time there, there was a shoot out between criminals and the police. One of the thugs died in the shootout. Very sad indeed. Thanks for a warm and fuzzy memory 🤠👍🏻

@@milfordcivic6755 I genuinely NEVER saw people wearing pajamas out in public until some years after the 2008 crash/great recession. I think what started the gradual shift was the early 00s when those awful matching velour stretch /jersey knit hoodie and lounge/exercise sets became stylish. Once we started wearing the wide legged lounge/yoga pants then it seems like within 10-15yrs of this happening eventually the PJ bottoms in public became a thing. Probably the closest thing you ever saw to PJs out in public before the 2000s were older women in public in big mumu house dress type things.
@Galidorquest3 күн бұрын
@@jercasgav Spot on. You're correct that pajama-bottoms became popular streetwear by 2008. That was when Perez Hilton released his Emo clothing line to Hot Topic and the pajamas were a popular item. Pajama-bottoms are a modern-day equivalent of plaid pants. Actually, though, the closest thing to PJs we wore in public in the 90's was sweatsuits by brands like Russell. Ironically, sweatpants are now a part of school uniforms these days instead of khakis & dress pants. Even in some Catholic Schools. As a Millennial, I find that shocking. As kids, we used to wear khakis & polos casually like the Cholos.

I didn't have a good childhood either, so I don't miss the time period either like others seem to. I also have a very detailed memory too and remember both the good and bad aspects in society overall, and I think a lot of folks forget the good stuff we have today and all the different issues back then.
