My grandmother who would be 102 if she was still alive had both her mother’s & her mother in law’s Christmas cactus plants that they each got as wedding gifts just about a hundred years ago, my aunt still has both of them & they are thriving! I think the Christmas Cactus is is about the most beautiful houseplant there is. My aunt just started new plants from clippings of those 2 one hundred year old plants in September for me and I’m really looking forward bringing them home. I wanted to learn how to take care of them so I was searching and found your video,very helpful thank you!

I love the way you explaind it, and I must say that I can listen to you talking all day.Such sooting and gentle voice.I was tinking that you might be a teacher?😊I bouth a small Christmas Cactus first time this year, as it reminds me for my mom, that past away not long ago.My cactus had buds, and only one flowered, but the rest of them drop off.I told it's because I didn't water enought.He is doing well now, but I will follow all your advises, and I do feel more confident now of what he likes, so hopefully he will bloom next year😊

Ah thank you for your kind words. No I wasn't a teacher, hahaha, never had the patience for that. These plants become part of the family and become heirlooms in many cases. They just take a while to settle into their happy place. I do hope yours continues to flourish.

My oldest Christmas cactus is 12 years!💚 I propagated a plant from my Mom's 38 year old Christmas cactus last year and it had glorious pink blooms for me !💚👍💖

My pleasure and thank you. They are very unassuming, but amazing plants. There are so many people that have lovely stories too. Mine was a present and originated in Guernsey! I have now passed some of the baby plants to friends and apparently they tok are thriving.

I just got a Christmas cactus this past fall. It had several blooms on it and several buds. After a while the blooms fell off , but the buds did not bloom. I assume the problem was because of the change in enviroment. My question is do I need to trim off the ends where the buds didn't bloom?

Hi. The blooms and buds often don't like a change of environment. Leave the plant as it is and keep it as the video suggests through the year. It will be due to flower towards Christmas. Good luck with it.

Great informative video. Do you place yours in a dark area for 12-14 hours daily in order to get blooms?

Hello, thank you, it's really nice to know its of use. I do see many people talking about placing cactus in the dark. I have to say I don't. Firstly they don't like being moved, secondly the natural light they get in my kitchen gives them darkness each night. Hope this helps and thank you for taking the trouble to write.

Hi, thank you. Believe me the plant does most of it on its own. Usually when leaves go red because plant has been left in direct sunlight and leaves are 'burnt'.

I find the best time to prune is a few weeks after flowering has finished.

Hi. They all vary in size and shape. This one was quite small for many years. However as ot matured it grew - so this is the result after 40 years.

You have a thanksgiving cactus, not a christmas cactus.

Thank you - we are in the UK so don't have Thanksgiving celebrations. New ones here are known as Christmas cactus - the care hoeever is the same

That is a Thanksgiving Cactus. I know Brits do not celebrate Thanksgiving but it is not a true Christmas Cactus. Be more correct to call it a Holiday Cactus.
