This is one of the coolest stories of WW1. Both sides stopped fighting to celebrate Christmas. Both side became good friends exchanging gifts and sharing meals. After the holiday both sides refused to continue fighting each other. They had become friends and they didn’t want to fight the friends they had just made. Even after orders by their command to start fighting again both sides refused. Eventually the command made both sides change where they were deployed so they could get them to fight again since they would no longer be fighting their new friends.

The killing resuming the following day is a little bit of a myth actually, see following the Christmas truce the soldiers on both sides were hesitant to continue fighting, the leadership had to swap out battalions in order for the fighting to continue, I believe they also saw to it that such an event wouldn't happen again, because hey who knew, getting to know each other kinda takes the appeal out of killing each other

We learnt about this in CBSE grade 10th english. The lesson is called "The Best Christmas Present in the World" where the narrator finds an old roll too desk in a junk shop with a letter in one of the drawers written by a soldier to his wife. The letter was never read by the wife and the desk was sold to the junk shop because it was damaged due to a fire accident in the wife's house. The wife, now and old lady, was in an old age home. The letter explained how the soldiers held a truce and played football (soccer), enjoyed and celebrated christmas for one day. The story ends with the narrator taking the letter to the old lady, who mistakens the narrator to be her husband (she has some sort of dementia and she hasn't moved on I guess). Seriously a good story telling the pov of a soldier.

I continually see shorts about the Christmas Truce… it brings me a feeling of assurance that there is always good in people, no matter how buried beneath insecurities, war, conflict, or struggles. Whether we find the good in ourselves from Religion, experiences, friends, or family, you can tell if something is right, if you really look for it. In my Church, we call that the Spirit, and it leads us to true happiness, all the reason to try to make the world more like that. But for that, we need hope. And this event in the middle of one of earth’s worst 5 years proves that it’s possible.

This made me tear up, these poor young men probably with no hate in their hearts forced to kill each other over arguments between their superiors. Back in the day, leaders would fight themselves, that's why they were the leaders. If two opposing sides had equal military power, then the leaders would personally fight to avoid unnecessary bloodshed and loss of life for BOTH sides. We need more leaders like this today. RIP to anyone who's lost their life or loved one to someone else's cowardice, grudge, and stupidity...

Explanation: The Christmas Truce of 1914 was a spontaneous period of peace between Allied and German soldiers during World War I . The truce began when soldiers in the trenches of the Western Front exchanged greetings and carolled. The soldiers then left their trenches and met in no man's land, where they shared drinks, played football, and exchanged gifts. The truce is often interpreted as a moment when soldiers rejected their officers' orders and the nationalist propaganda they were exposed to. On the Russian-German front, fraternization was first registered in February 1915, but it was not widespread and was of a sporadic nature, not posing a threat to the combat effectiveness of the Russian army. Fraternization became widespread at the end of 1916 and, especially, in 1917. During Easter Week 1917, fraternization took on an unprecedentedly wide scale, especially on the Southwestern Front; over a hundred regiments took part in them. Maybe it’s enough to elevate the west above the east?

And they played a friendly foot ball matched together and Jim had a wife named Connie Macpherson he used to write letters for her every month , she thought that he will returned back from WW1 but it turns out that she never received any more letters after 25/1915 from her husband and guys it is a very emotional story of war 😢😢😢😢,In my opinion i think games were good ways of resolving conflicts cuz nobody lays down their lives in matches ,neither do childrens became orphans nor do wives became widow of martyred soldiers Guys plz one like😢😢😢.

Beneath the cold and bitter sky, Where shadows of war and soldiers lie, A quiet night in 1914 came, When peace slipped in through war’s cruel flame. The guns fell silent, breath held still, A Christmas truce, against their will. Enemies met on no-man’s land, Sharing smiles, a brother’s hand. With laughter, games, and gifts exchanged, For fleeting hours, their hearts unchained. No flags, no hate, just songs of cheer, They lived as friends, if just that year. But dawn returned with war’s cruel roar, The soldiers parted, friends no more. They fought again as “THEY WERE TOLD”, And many never grew old. Yet in that moment, truth was found, Humanity stood on common ground. A fragile peace, too soon erased, But in their hearts, forever placed. ❤❤❤❤
