Chris is around the age that he probably would have been influenced by 80's cartoons as a young artist.

I ordered several of Christophers Manga drawing books and was thoroughly disappointed. Each book was just a collection of his drawings... with no tutorial content. I now consider his books to be lazy cash-grabs : / There are WAY better drawing books out there that discuss character construction, techniques, angles, shading, poses... and have a lot of useful information to impart - thoughtful books that actually take time to produce and are worth the money. Chris could knock out one of these per month for the rest of his life and I'd still not rate his collection as a useful resource. I'd say they're best avoided unless you can already draw competently, have more money than you need, and are just looking for a picture gallery for character inspiration... ... although, even then, the internet provides a far better resource.

I've never purchased any of his Manga books so I can't really speak to that. But everything that you just mentioned "character construction, techniques, angles, shading, poses" he covers in this book. As far as traditional style cartoons, I think Chris is a great teacher, I know I've learned a lot from his books. But everyone learns in different ways and therefore require a different style of instruction. I find his books to be fairly basic and perfect for beginners for the most part, but that's just me. The important thing is that you've found a drawing resource that works best for you.
