Hi Craig, lovely video with so many details. For me the last couple of steps I would love to get some help: how exactly did you upload these to KDP? In the 8.5 x 11 format? The format as it is didnt look proper inside the preview. Any tips here?

I used 8.5x11 for the book size. When it comes to uploading to KDP, you just use the exact same settings that you used to set up your book in Book Bolt.

What if a coloring book is put together from readymade pages from Creative Fabrica and sold directly on a website and not Amazon KDP etc ...is that allowed within Creative Fabrica TOS?

They do have a clause that states you can use images "as is" without altering them; but I don't recommend it. If you're just selling books at a local flea market, then it doesn't really matter, but anywhere online, you're taking a chance.

Hi, thank you for this video! I have a Creative fabrica annual subscription, I personally find the idea of creating a story with the images available overwhelming. but you have some really helpful tips on how to circumvent that! I may be able to create a children's book after all.

It seems a little over whelming at first, but trust me, once you stare at the illustrations for a while, the story will begin to write itself in your head.

It's more than likely a formatting issue. Either you're not using KDP cover and interior templates to create your book so you graphics aren't lining up properly, your illustrations are not extending far enough over your books' bleed, your interior text is to close to the margins of your book, or you're not flattening your transparencies in whichever photo editor you're using, before converting into a PDF. I have videos covering all of this in my "Self Publishing 101" playlist.

PNG images do not affect the quality of the book when printing ? I work with idiogram Ai and I find it difficult to convert images to vector in Illustrator. My question is, is there a problem if I work with PNG images ? Thank you very much for the explanation.

Not really, the printing presses that KDP uses can pretty much make anything look good. You're not going to be uploading PNG's to KDP, you're going to be converting your book to press quality PDF. I just finished a book that used a mixture of AI as well as hand drawn images and the images used were also a mix of RGB and CMYK. I did my best to balance out the value in the images, but other than the print being a little dark, it all ended up looking pretty cohesive.

I need(ed) to create images for a book that I'm working on. It features new narrative verse and although the poems can stand alone without illustration, I wanted to see if there was a way to create images. I'm currently using Stable Diffusion AI which does seem to allow images to be created and used for both personal and commercial use. I found it very useful to use ChatGPT when asking for a list of any and all online AI image-making programs that could be used that way. Several were suggested, some with caveats about uncertainties when it came to copyright issues, but one or two platforms do currently seem to allow for free use with no copyright restrictions. However, as Craig points out several times, it's essential to check and re-check. To not do so will lay you wide open to hammer-blows from copyright lawyers. For the moment, I will continue what I'm doing, but will constantly check to see if restrictions are suddenly being applied. As Craig says at the start of this excellent video - you have to be REALLY sure before claiming ownership and publishing rights to images you create unless you physically make them yourself. With past publications using KDP, I have always clearly stated where I found copyright-free images and I always try to credit the artists who have provided them for free, public domain use. Thanks, Craig,for this excellent walk through the copyright minefield.

Paperback ... the only time to use hardcover books is when the book will be kept after it's finished; like a novel or story book. Most activity books are thrown away once they're done, so it's not worth creating them in hardcover and incurring all that extra expense.

Just hold down your "Shift" key as you're selecting the pages from the left hand column. Then right click on one of the pages and choose "delete" to delete them all or "clear" to remove the content from them all.

No, you can't change the number of pages after you've created the book. But you can delete and add pages at any time. If you want to delete pages, go over to the left hand column, select all of the pages you want to delete, right click on one of them and choose delete.
