@Generic Name Oh what a spurious statement. Those who understand the spiritual nature of all being, appreciate and acknowledge the true nature of all which exists. Certainly (some) religions have used misused spiritual guidance by replacing it with political control of one sort or another. But don't be beguiled, because the true spiritual nature of all that is , is far beyond political one upman-ship or games. True spiritual awareness (not necessarily religions) enable one to see (be aware of) the true purpose of human existence, Facile comments relating to brains and religions indicate a complete lack of understanding of the purpose of life.--- including your own.
@electricmanist
@electricmanist Жыл бұрын
@Generic Name Well you do appear to have rambled on a bit - ranging from a defense of Mr C Hitchins, then to all points downward, ranging from Darwinian theories to Spiritualism. So maybe you can appreciate that it's difficult for me to follow through any cogent points you wish to make regarding any purpose to life. However, in your sweeping (one size fits all it seems) condemnation of NDE (Near Death Experiences), nowhere can I find any personal experience(s) of this phenomena. So on the face of it, you are way above your head by trying to minimize the reality of these experiences-- not to mention the truths/understandings contained within them. It is one thing to disagree with the validity of the NDE experiences, but unless you can offer any other explanation for these events, then your objections (such as they are) are no more than opinions-- which seem to be based upon lack of knowledge and personal experience. The use of "famous names" to support your point of view, doesn't really amount to very much.
@electricmanist
@electricmanist Жыл бұрын
@Generic Name Forgive me if I have mis-interpreted your EMail, but it appears that you reject any recollections of NDE's (Near Death Experiences). One would normally expect that any valid/ worthwhile comments on this matter, would come from those (people) who have personally experienced a NDE.rather than any theorist. Great thinkers or philosophers etc might well have commented on matters pertaining to life and death, but often that amounts to little more than say (for example) a garbage collector commenting upon the principles of astro-physics; --in other words it is vital that personal experience/understanding rather than 'off the shelf' intellectual theories, are really what matters. Unfortunately we live in a society in which the name or social standing of a personage is accepted rather than any personal experience (or spiritual understanding) they might have had. Yes, the world has its quota of charlatans, not to mention drug takers and others of the "listen to me I know everything " ilk. They are 'two a penny' as you well know. Those who are unable to accept that consciousness exists on many levels (say life and after life existence) , usually do so either by reason of a lack of understanding, intellectual prejudice or by reason of not personally having experienced A NDE. It might be preferably to heed the actual accounts of those who have experienced a NDE, rather than all the renown theorists who can do little more than that they are known for;-- theorize. You Tube has many personal accounts of people who have personally (and actually) experienced a NDE.

Simple concept causation, everything had to come from something, we're a product of a super natural creator. An entity that literally created everything from nothing. I'm not saying whatever that was is a christian god, but it is well beyond your frame of reference. To pretend religion is based on irrational fear alone is absurd. So if this man has 'gone', gone where ? Into meaningless or emptiness,, without any purpose ? If one follows Hitchen's arguments, then one has to accept/believe the meaningless not only of his existence, but ipso facto, all that he thought, said, or believed. In essence his very existence and the universe itself.. A bit of a waste of time if you think that way, about it. Alternatively, life itself has creative meaning, as does all matter, from an atom, to the amazing universe. You choose.-- meaningless accident or purposeful (spiritual) design/intent.

@@captainzappbrannagan It would appear that you don't realize that the same force (energy) which created the universe, also created you-- not to mention all that is, such as other celestial planets/universes. Now if you think that all the energy demonstrated/manifest throughout the entire universe, originated, and maintained, from moment to moment originated from nowhere, you have a strange concept of physics. Remember--Nothing means nothing--not even space. let alone any form of matter--- yet every atom of matter, (even that which we call space) at its heart, is maintained/created and perpetuated by energy. Energy remains a constant, no matter what form it takes. (manifests). Yet it would appear that you think all this energy came,---comes--- and will continue to exist, from nowhere, all by itself. Well well !! You need to wake up and consider that energy is the essential factor inherent and maintaining, all that exists. For want of a greater awareness/understanding, many choose to describe this (creative !) constant intelligent energy, as God.

@@captainzappbrannagan It seems that you are another of the 'everything came from nothing' brigade. All by itself ! No creative mind (God), and all the power and laws (yes LAWS remember) which continually govern all matter, from atomic particles to galaxies etc, came from nothing too ! Well well. Amazing ! It seems all you need is a magician's top hat and black cape, and voila ! bacteria, viruses, and all forms of life on earth (not to mention the wider universe), pop out seemingly from nowhere too. By the way, what is the source of your 'universal eternal energy' ? Is that in the magician's hat also ?? Even a brief study of atomic physics would reveal to you, that all that is , (everything) is ENERGY !!! Intelligent creative energy !

Seems pretty obvious to me that people in that part of the world don’t want the US or the West to be nation building. We’re forcing our culture on them and people like Hitchens doesn’t seem to notice or care because a few people he knows happens to be in favor of democracy, though I’d bet a large part of that is simply due to opportunism. If the people wanted democracy and the US involvement then it wouldn’t be the atmosphere it has been there and we wouldn’t need to prop up what minor force has been mustered, men who when it comes down to it either can’t cut it or just aren’t enough.

It *seems* obvious doesn’t it. Yet the idea that there should be any society that is built not around the ideas of the enlightenment that all people are equal and deserve the dignity of a societal structure that reenforces that, but rather the authoritarian control of religious zealots is simply bigotry with the facade of understanding. If you truly believe in individual liberty how can you possibly believe in leaving totalitarian regimes in power? Unless, of course, you are at heart authoritarian and subscribe to the belief that the people of the region deserve to live in the conditions they do because they’re crazed religious based society is somehow equal to the society changed by the enlightenment when the only education in some of these areas is their book of nonsense about an illiterate merchant that spoke to god. Also, if I were you I would look into the history of Democratic movements in the Middle East. It’s not my job to educate you but I think you would be surprised.
