No, I have to disagree. Jack O'Neill is almost as smart and resourceful as MacGyver, but he conceals it more than MacGyver does. The fact is, Jack thought his way out of a lot of difficult situations that required extreme subtlety, was shown to have a decent grounding in science (despite his protests to the contrary) and was also qualified to fly experimental hypersonic aircraft. I'd say the sense of humour is much the same as well. The movie version of Jack? Yeah, total opposites.

Chris's full name is Douglas Christopher Judge. At this point in his career he was usually credited as "Doug Judge", so it's understandable if he wasn't recognized in the credits. And it's not really crazy that they worked together in Stargate. RDA and Chris met on the Macgyver set, and when RDA won the role of Jack O'neill in SG-1, he specifically asked Chris to audition for the role of Teal'c (which he obviously got).

Everyone doesn't need a tragic, tortured backstory intertwined with all the other major characters, you don't need shoot 'em up action every 30 seconds. Just a simple demonstration, of real science no less, in a school showing how one person can make a difference in in person's life, is compelling enough.
