This really made me like Lambert a lot more. He actually put effort into his answer and gave his reasons, how he really felt, and what he wanted to see. Most celebrities just give a little lip service and that's all. He actually hung out to answer the question and gave a real, honest answer. I hate the three word "Well, why not?" thing so many actors do. He's not too good to talk to the fans and he knows it. That's pretty awesome in my book.

More than that, he also seems to understand that a movie isn't just the actor's performance. It's the entire picture that counts, and the performance of the actor is only a part of that. I have intense respect for him telling them to be original, go for that spirit of the first movie. Don't just copy, try to find a new formula.

First saw it as a 13 year old kid. I'm 41 now, and it and it's soundtrack are still my favorite after all of these years. NOTHING beat that first heavy piano key stroke of the training montage with Connor and Ramirez.

I remember hearing that opening track when Highlander opened in the theatres. I had no idea it was queen. There was no internet. Movies only ran once. No guarantee they would ever show on TV which ran one or two movies a week on jus two channels. Ordering a film score from abroad through a dealer was an exotic concept at the time - and you would have had to wait for weeks or months to get it shipped and get notified through snail mail or a personal call from the store, I am sure. And I remember thinking, how sad I shall be hearing this only once - ever (pun partially intended) - because it was magical and immediately sold me on the movie, which at this point I could probably quote line for line in it's entireity while watching it. Only years later did I find the Queen album in my uncles record stash. Even then I had no idea it was a movie soundtrack, until I suddenly heard Princes of the Universe again - and my head just about exploded ...

a bit late but pretty similar to my own story😃. I actually discovered Queen s music through this movie, and both the music and the film blew my mind away. I remember the first time I watched it with my dad, second time (the following week) with my best friend (always in a movie theater), third time (my parents were looking at me like "ok, so what s going on with this movie, three times??🤨😂) with a cousin. And much later, on cable TV. I loooved the first movie, liked the series, but did not love 2nd and 3rd movie, even if the 2nd was partially shot in Buenos Aires, where I am from. And btw, watching this now that there will be a reboot is quite significant... i dont know... i can accept reboots of other stuff, but not of this. But i guess i ll have to wait and see.

Movies aren't the same anyway. They are very careful and try to sell everything pg 12. So even if Hollywood remakes it I will stick with this one. The original Highlander is one of those rare creative masterpieces in the action (plus fantasy) genre. The sequels shouldn't have been made and the idea of a remake is an insulting abomination. The only thing that might "possibly" (and even this would be iffy) would be a prequel about Ramirez. But such a movie would have to live up to the original movie and they would have to be extremely careful choosing just the right cast. And it must have music by queen. Queen is as much a part of highland as Ramirez's sword. It means way too much to ever be excluded.

Here’s my idea. Make it about Ramirez but without the audience knowing that it is Ramirez. Make a great story about an immortal badass cutting heads left and right and we never know his real name and then at the end of the movie he says his name with Princes of the Universe blasting as the credits roll up.

Now that the buzz of the reboot with Henry Cavill is ramping up, I love Christopher Lambert's well-thought out answer. You can tell that he holds the original movie in high regard and legitimately cares about where the franchise goes with the reboot. I thought the Panzer/Davis production team really screwed up the entire franchise after the original movie. The TV series started out great, until it became the "Duncan kills the immortal of the week" episodic mishmash, and like all TV series that last more than a couple seasons, they evolved and lost key elements (Alexandra Vandernoot wanted out of her contract, they killed Stan Kirsch's Richie character off for no good reason), the Watcher concept became silly, etc. The original movie worked despite all the gaps and flaws in concept and production. You had a French actor with a French accent playing a clansman from the Scottish highlands. You had a Scottish guy playing a Spanish peacock who was actually Egyptian. And the production plotholes go on and on and on in the original movie. But it worked out because of great performances from the principal actors, a great sci-fi concept, and like Lambert said in this interview a great visual director who filmed some iconic scenes, and of course a great soundtrack by Queen. I hope the reboot is successful, I hope Chad Stahelsky has seen this interview and maybe takes some of Lambert's advice to heart.

Yep, agreed with all. I remember seeing Queen in 1984 & again in ‘86 along with the movie that same year . Plot holes & other flaws aside, the movie held up with its ‘everlasting love’, humour and, of course, music (I still choke up, to this day, during Heather’s death). Shame about the tv show, too. I quite enjoyed the mystery of Mythos’ character but, it petered out.😉✌️

They were talking about this remake for 3 years prior to this interview, and now 7 years AFTER this interview, we still ain't got shit..... . A full decade with NO progress... . Don't hold your breath, folks. It took 'em 8 years to finally get The Source out. It seems like with the history of this franchise, the longer it takes for a film to get produced, the higher likelihood that it will NOT be worth the wait. It was 5 years between 1 & 2 4 years between 2 & 3 5 years between 3 & Endgame(but The Series & The Raven compensated in the interim) 8 years between Endgame & The Source 12 years since The Source(most likely going to be at least another 3-to-8 years until we actually get to see this remake, *IF* it EVER even gets made)

Here's my idea (and it's wrong but here it is anyways): Remake it with a very good visual director who is a fan of the franchise (hint Taika Wattiti) and then do what Russell Mulcahy did by showing the footage to a few bands and chose the one who most connects with the story and the footage being shown. That's what made the first higlander unique. That blend of sci-fi fantasy and rock music.

I liked the original film. Didn't do too well at the time and was seen as a flop. The other films that followed were piss poor in comparison and shouldn't have been made in my opinion. Good film or not, there was something special about the original. Music by the mighty Queen, which made the film better and I thought the plot was pretty decent. Highlander without Queen music? Nah, not for me. Queen and Highlander come as one . Leave it alone, don't re-boot it!!!

Well Sean it nearly made its budget back but not all of it from cinemas, But when it came out to rent on video it went really crazy-People queueing up outside video shops to rent it out and went over its budget within a few weeks...And then some more when came out to buy on VHS, LaserDisc, So it did do bloody good at the time in general!

i have to disagree with lambert, it was successful partly because of him, his intensity and emotion he expresses when they do flashbacks and interaction with his costars. if they reboot it, they need a good story and good cast, ive heard they reynolds and tom cruse rumors, personally dont think either should play a the connor role, and no scottish egyptian/spanyards lmao ... love connery

The only way I see it working is if they get a Scott as Macleod (a beefed up James Mcavoy could manage it) and get as many of the makers from Game Of Thrones on it as possible. It needs to have a totally different vibe from the original. The original was of it's time and cannot be duplicated. So far all we know is Batista is the Kurgan so who really knows how it's gonna turn out?

Why? There can be so many new characters brought to light, and start a whole new Chapter if done right? With Highlander, you can use any character from any country from any timeline! Start new and afresh! Just don't cheapen it and have it written well, with all-new stories and altogether different! With today's tech, it has the possibility of becoming another classic! Another immortal story and struggle with perspective throughout the history of that character.

I'm not a massive Muse fan but saw them live last year on a spare ticket and it was one of the best gigs i've ever been to. Hands down. It may be a bit lazy for folks to compare Muse to Queen, but, after the show, i couldn't shake the idea that I had watched an opera and they would make a mint film soundtrack just like queen did
