I fell in love with him and the entire Sound of Music cast at 9 years old. I think the dance scene in the dark with Julie Andrews was the most exquisite and breathtaking romantic scene I’ve ever seen in a movie. And it’s still my favorite romantic scene to this day.

NO! All the actors that I watched in the 70s are dying off. I love his performance in the sound of music and somewhere in time not to mention star trek 6. Rest in peace good sir.

@wanker2us On Wikipedia it said he fell which is a problem for older people. I cried for 5 minutes because I love the sound of music and my uncle fell recently and has bleeding on the brain and will pass away in a few months. He is 95 and was playing golf right before covid happened.

I will never forget a quote of his in the Sound of Music when the Baroness asked him "Hellooo. You're far away. Where are you?" He sadly answered " In a world that's slowly disappearing." How prophetic for 2021. Eternal Rest grant unto him O Lord may he rest in peace. Amen

I’m not sure how to explain the level of grief some may feel for people we never knew, but whose presence we enjoyed throughout our lives. That level of grief belongs to those who enjoyed and admired the work of others who entertained us, who shared their artistic gifts with us and who gave us moments of appreciated pleasure. Plummer belonged in that group of profoundly talented artists who, to our joy, continued sharing his gifts well into an age when most had long since retired. And we were rewarded for it, as he not only raised the level of a production by his sheer presence, but also seemed to only get better with age. Since hearing of his passing this week, I have mourned not for him but for those of us who so enjoyed his work. We have lost much the past few months. We’ve lost Connery, Von Sydow and others along with Plummer. And what a cumulative loss it has been. RIP, Mr. Plummer. You will be missed.

Thanks for this lovely tribute. Until today, I did not realize that he died, nor that he was a Canadian. He moved with ease between the great classical roles, and even to Star Trek. One of my favorite TV movies was the one in which he played a scientist who produced a perfect human-looking robot (David Morse, I think). It was gentle and touching, and I remember it to this day. Be at peace, Christopher, for you good works follow you.

I saw him in a Broadway "Othello" costarring James Earl Jones. Plummer played Iago, intriguingly clicking his booted heels like a German officer. In the film Sound of Music he subtlely enhanced the romantic hero, yet sophisticated military disciplinarian paternal and tactical aspects of Captain von Trapp, as in his softsoaped ready diplomatic success in getting young Nazi rookie Rolf to hand him Rolf's gun pointed at him. Into his late years the versatile Plummer also played virtuoso classical piano. R.I.P.
