I was once idealistic too. I served a total of 38 years in the Air Force, 24 active and 14 civil service. This is one incident that threw some water on my idealism. How it was handled was a complete failure. He did not deserve to die - especially the way he was brutalized. Our government completely failed and the cover ups and lies were disgraceful. Thanks for the objective look at this.

Thank you for posting this. I spent 40 years in the national security world. Served in the Army, for a couple alphabets and a couple PMCs, among other things. I worked NEO plans for Embassy crisis ops. I knew the assets available, the flight times, and the way these plans are supposed to work. As a result, when this went down I knew it was a scandal. This has nothing to do with politics. HRC, S. Rice, VP Joe and Barry O all have bl00d on their hands over this. I was even more amazed that smart Americans on the left and right didn't want to see this for the epic scandal it was. This was one of those events that made me realize the elites do not care for anyone's child sent in harms way. At least the R party lets the military do their job. The Ds absolutely do not care about outcomes and lives. If you disagree, please, you are only showing how little you understand this stuff. Christoper Stephens and the rest of them deserved better.

Your cemetary "wanders" bring back some bittersweet memories. My late husband and I visited cemeteries in our travels of the western US and they are rich with history. (Did you know those memorials that look like they're carved from trees were often from purchased Woodmen of the World insurance policies that guaranteed these unique markers? Very unusual). Ever since I ran across my 1st History video of yours I watch each new one and enjoy your library of previous stories. Your journalism skills, presentation, varied subject matter and both light and heavy themes are always worth watching. You have a unique and rich voice too (and great hair😁). Good work, Jeff. I love Grass Valley. I used to camp out in the area decades ago and I appreciate the videos you've done regarding the town. With regard to Christopher Stevens (and this may be WAY off base as I have no first--hand knowledge [but spent 8 years in government service and know how they work]), he was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency during his senior year at Berkeley and funneled into the Foreign Service. With regard to the events in Benghazi, it was determined by the State Department and the CIA that Libya needed to be destabilized. The night of the attack on the American compound, there was a scheduled transfer of weapons to Al Shariah. Most of the forces guarding the compound were private security personnel (i.e. mercenaries; I can't recall if it was Whackenhut or Black Water). None the less, only a few individuals were read in on the weapons transfer and when it was about to take place, security force personnel who were unaware of the operation fired on the approaching Al Shariah militia. At that point, the Al Shariah contingent believed that they had been betrayed and initiated a full-scale attack on the compound. It was said (allegedly by people directly involved) that Stevens was fully aware of the operation before it took place and approved it. I'm just saying. If you're "Hunting History", there's a pretty good chance that you missed the target on this one.
