This is great Dr. B. Thanks so much for posting this and making such high quality content available. There's a lot of music theory content on KZbin, of varying degrees, but yours has a special place for me - the focus on strong foundations, the level of clarity and the contextual cues are exceptional.

Thanks! Usually, I can recognize triads quickly, but it's more challenging in 4 part voicing. The melodic dictation is also a bit tougher without the initial note. I guess I have a lot to improve!
@ChristopherBrellochs3 жыл бұрын
For melodic dictation I recommend singing scale degrees 1 - 3 - 5 before the melody is played; the first note will often be 1 or 5, but if not then it will be close to one of them! You are 100% correct that triads are harder to identify with all the variety possible with 4 part voicing! I recommend trying to sing the triad in close position (i.e. 1 - 3 - 5) even if the voicing is more spread out. Best wishes, Dr. B

I've been studying music since I was 8yo. I did theory 1/3, 2/3 and 3/3 when I was in grade school. I'm 36yo now. Never got the hang of relative pitch. Maybe this will help.

I give some suggestions in the comments that I think you will find useful; this video is more of a self-test than tutorial on how to develop relative pitch but will still help a little with getting the hang of it. Best wishes, Dr. B

Are you back from the hiatus or is it a old video from patreon? This is super great! Also a rhythm series would be awesome. The harmony part is Often delt but the rhythm is a bit forgotten I think
@ChristopherBrellochs3 жыл бұрын
I cover rhythm in my Aural Skills 1 class (this video is from Aural Skills 2), but you are 100% right that rhythm doesn't get as much attention as it deserves - sorry that I'm going to be a little guilty of that myself in this and coming Ear Training videos. I should do a series focusing just on rhythm in the future! I am still on hiatus so yes, this was formerly only available on my Patreon page. Best wishes, Dr. B

Thank you. I appreciate your music theory videos. If possible, could you recommend a possible school to begin with music studies? I am hoping also, a Christian school. Thanks so much.

Thanks! Are you looking for a college in a specific area (country or state)? Although it isn't specifically Christian, Westminster Choir College in New Jersey has a good reputation and offers a Bachelor's in Sacred Music. Best wishes, Dr. B

@@ChristopherBrellochs I am in CT, today. I am seeking the environment of a Christian school but something for music. I really enjoyed music and then went away from it but I hope to conduct if I can at least first lay the ground work. It is like I am starting from the very beginning. Thanks for the reply.
