I never served in any capacity, but soldiers having a drinking problem isn't at all surprising. If it happens to civilians that are stressed out why wouldn't it happen to someone dealing with all the shit soldiers go through.

One thing I always saw was that soldiers think they're above the law. I'm even guilty of that. Getting pulled over, flashing your gac, thinking you're home free. WRONG. It's usually worse for you. I'd rather spend the night in the drunk tank than have 1st Sgt come pick my ass up

Most Civilians don’t understand the constant pressures (active) military personnel, and if married, their dependents go through daily. Alcohol abuse was pretty common when I served, as well growing up as a dependents, or “military brat.” My dad retired after 22 years active duty. He was drafted back in 1971. I was born in ‘72. I served 7 years active duty before medically retired. The military mental health programs was like non-existence. I believe mental health contributes to alcoholism, as well as keeping up with the standards required to perform duties in a proper manner. Married, or single parents on active duty go through stresses most civilians will never face. Alcohol unfortunately is one of the only outlets available to active duty, and their families. Can’t smoke weed, eat shrooms, or anything considered mind altering unless prescribed by military docs. Domestic violence does happen, and I believe alcohol can contribute a great deal to this. Active duty personnel do not have the luxury to clock in, and out like a 9 to 5 job. All active duty have to conduct them selves in accordance to military standards at all times. Even when on leave/ vacation.

Unfortunately the military don’t provide useful tips on budgeting for new soldiers, but quick to punish, or even kick soldiers out depending on how much debt acquired.

Stress relief.
@christopherchaos2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it comes from being board in the field. Soldiers see someone else dipping or smoking and what to try because they have nothing better to do at times and then like it and get hooked or just keep doing it out of boredom and get hooked.
@mikebrase51612 жыл бұрын
I dipped my entire career. I had Kodiak send me a while case when I was in Iraq. Dip will also help keep you awake when you are on a 36-96 hour straight mission

when I was at Benning, smokers got a break when the "smoking lamp was lit"....so everyone got a pack of cigs so we could all "smoke and joke" instead of standing in formation.

Im a civilian. I work on a base. They treat there families, pets, Housing like crap. They dont deserve money. Its disgusting to America.
@ursulasmith64022 жыл бұрын
No, soldiers don't do that. I am planning to move in base housing. No drug dealers, no shootings, angry tenants and definitely former convicts. If soldiers abuse pets spouse or family, they will be discharged. No one wants to be a homeless veteran.
