Ballistic eye protection will protect your eyes from IEDs, i knew a guy that stepped on one in Afghanistan amputating his leg below the knee and he was covered in cuts from shrapnel except for where his body armour covered and where his eye protection covered, you could even see the pieces stuck in the glasses.

When I was a medic in the army the 11b's would get their standard m4s or whatever when we went to the field and medics would get m4s AND m9s. like why the hell am I carrying more guns than the infantry?! on top of all my other shit?! anyways good video man
@cthulhu6697
@cthulhu6697 3 жыл бұрын
@Chase Michonski Combat medics operate as normal infantry until someone catches a round/gets injured, right? Because of all the medical gear they carry ( morphine, tranquilizers, bandages, CAT-TQs, Quick Clot, chest seals etc...... ) they don't carry as much ammo/mags as infantry, right? A pistol can help mitigate this and you may have to leave your rifle/carbine where you are when you hear "Medic!" ( or "Corpsman Up!" in the Marines ) in order to carry all the stuff you need because you just know someone is wounded, but the extent is unknown until you get there. You may have to drag a wounded man to safety, leaving your rifle where the wounded man lay in order to get him to cover/in a defilade so you can work on him. As someone mentioned, the pistol may save your ( and the wounded's ) life while dragging him to safety and treating him if a screaming Hadji runs at you with the intent to kill you

@@samuelthestranger12 The primary role of medics is to provide life saving medical aid and prepare the wounded for evac, this is typically easier when all the bad guys are dead. Leaving your rifle is infact contradictory to that function. The reason infantry assault gunner assistance carry a sidearm in addition to their rifle and a full complement of kit is it may be easier to bring to bear in an emergency, its only logical for combat medics to use one for similar reasons. One of the primary things they try and emphasis in TCCC is running out to grab Pvt troopaloopa at best puts twice as many guns out of the fight at worst you get hit and double doc's work while degrading your units bayonet strength.

Thank you for mentioning, at least partially, the downside of NVG's. If you think you're going to be sprinting through the forest at night like some sort of ninja, you're wrong. You're going to be like a toddler, stumbling and staggering over every branch you think you're on top of, but is actually a meter ahead of you. And then you'll trip again after you think you've crossed it, but it's really 100mm in front of your foot.

Great rundown Christopher! Things have changed just a tad since I enlisted in ‘77. I was a tanker & we never wore the LBJ (load bearing junk) inside the tank. We put our Vietnam era flak jackets under the main gun breach which meant they got soaked with hydraulic fluid. Good thing they were unit issue rather than from CIF!

Heard you say IBA wouldn’t stop 7.62 and was sayin WTF, then saw the note correcting it and calmed down 😂. It’s amazing to me how small, yet capabilities improving changes that were made since I retired are. It’s also funny to see some of the future gear we tested during Iraq that just died and went away, some of that stuff was garbage. We were jumping some of the Land Warfare Gear for testing around 2004 and it kept “breaking” before we jumped, and you don’t jump broken gear into an operation so…………………. That ATAK? The phone thing whatever the acronym is would have been cool to have in Iraq as long as the battery pack and overall weight isn’t too bad.

Maaan the IOTV looks so much better than the IBA system we were using in the early 2000's, still not a fan of ceramic plates but I get why we used them albeit they can be rendered ineffective if dropped or fallen on too hard and crack. What model of CCO are they using now? I remember the Aimpoint CCO's we had were fairly durable, i love the Trijicon ACOG though that is a great optic, and oh mama did i love that M203-- I see a lot of units using the newer GL320 now though for a 40mm launcher. Good stuff bro.

@Christopher Chaos I have some questions. If the standard combat load of ammo is 7 mags, I'm gonna want more, especially with 5.56 and especially with those M855 rounds. Can you just ask the Quarter Master ( or someone ) and get the extra mags and pouches, or how do you go about it? I mostly run AKMs and use these double compartment pouches that hold a total of 6 30s each ( fits both 5.56 and AK mags ) and take up 4 MOLLE loops. Can a soldier buy those pouches and wear them? How many loops per row are on the main field of MOLLE ( abdomen, before you start getting onto the cummerbund MOLLE ) on the current Army plate carrier ( I would need at least 8 loops per row on the front main field of MOLLE to carry the amount of ammo I want )? If I picked up a dead Hadji's AK and his ammo, would I be allowed to shoulder my M-16 and use the AK, replenishing my ammo from dead Hadjis? Thanks if you answer

Randall #1 Fighter or antique WWI Trench knife - the nasty one with the brass knuckles on it, depending on what we were doing. -Zippo, switch blade, Leatherman 'Super Tool' ......Copenhagen x's 5 cans, sunflower seeds, beef jerky and dried fruit (packing list was so tight, no MREs at times.) Sometimes there was room for a "jungle cut" MRE or two, but most of the time, not. Never wore or packed underwear. "Commando" all the way. I learned that one as a medic treating others and observing the effects of underwear in field conditions. -M4, night vision, extra shit in my weapons cleaning kit that was not authorized. Extra batteries for the NVGs. That's the bulk of it. the rest would take a video on it's own.

Can't speak for all but I was in a Cavalry unit during Gulf 1 and I was the Troop(company) designated 203 gunner. I had to wear a vest over my other gear that had pouches for 40 40mm grenades.Two of which were designated red and green respectively. Most vets already know why. As for everything else I was issued pouches for basic rile load of 210 I bought a 249 pouch surplus off post and rigged that up to carry 6 more mags. So I was at 13 mags 30 round each. I bore the weight quietly and happily due to something I read while studying warfare and tactics. "For want of a nail, a kingdom was lost". There is a much longer version that I won't post here but I committed myself to making sure that If the time came for any of my guys it would not be because we ran out of ammo. Just my thoughts and as always, opinions vary.

maybe the 7th counts as in the rifle (and only mags not in a weapon are counted) 30x60 + 15x2 then 1 mag in each weapon and that would be 210. I could be wrong but how sure are you?
